About the property

4 Bedroom / 2 Bath ('EAST' side of our side-by-side Duplex) 1-Week MINIMUM STAY

Pool measures 44' long x 16' wide. The Pool design has wide, shallow steps/entrance-way at both ends which makes it great for children and the elderly. It is 4 feet deep. It also has a floating rope that divides the pool down the middle so that you have your own side for privacy. Our Concrete decking (surrounding the pool) is cool on the feet (unlike TREX Decking that other houses use which is hot).

• NO CHARGE for POOL HEATING: in May/June and Sept/Oct when heat is needed (Saves you over $550!

…because MOST houses in Emerald Isle charge $550 to $600 ‘additional’ for Pool Heating!!! We don’t!!!)

(Pool Heater operable only when the air temperature is above 60 the month of April is very

iffy if the pool will be warm enough for swimming. That is why our ‘APRIL’ RATES are comparable to homes 'without' a pool). Pool heating is not at all necessary for the months of July/Aug.

About Don

Our family has been spending summer vacations on the East Coast since the very early 1900's when our Great Grandfather took my Grandfather as a boy down to the barrier Islands off the Eastern seaboard. Sadly, as much as all the older generations LOVED the shore, they were never able to afford to buy a house there. My Grandfather had the opportunity to 'buy' a lot on an Island for $200 in the early 1900's, but in his own words; 'that was too much money' back then...he couldn't afford it...he grew up in the great depression. We need to remind ourselves that we are a very blessed generation to have been able to finally buy a Beach House. It still took a lot of sacrifices and it is not easy, but we know it brings a lot of joy to a lot of people...not just us. We have a young 'special-needs' boy, and there is no greater feeling than watching his face when he is at the Beach! We are sure this will bring many fond memories to your Children... if you can simply put down the cell phone, computer and remote while you are here and just enjoy being with your family at the Ocean!

Don purchased this house in 2001

Why Don chose Emerald Isle

Our Father decided that since he was just a few more years away from being about to retire that he wanted to buy a house on the NC Coast and retire there. He visited the entire NC coast looking at real estate and he apparently fell in love with Emerald Isle because he singled it out and focused on the market there. Sadly, two weeks later after making his last trip there, he passed the young age of 54.

Many Years later, when I decided to buy a Beach house on the Oceanfront, I started taking trips to every Island and every town up and down the NC Coast. Upon doing so, there was no question that Emerald Isle was by far the prettiest Island in my opinion. It's natural beauty is everywhere you look. It has pristine beaches with very clean, warm water. The Ocean is shallow and great for children. The architecture on the Island is a mix of Sandcastles and small cottages. There is maritime forest with old curvy tall Live Oak tree's. There is fine dining, miles of bike paths, a wide beautiful Sound for boating and so much more.

What makes this house unique

Clean, warm, shallow Ocean water with expansive, pristine white sandy Beaches!!! Pure Nature at it's best!

The Island runs East to West allowing views of both the sunrises and sunsets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed the beach, so beautiful, it was sunny 85 degrees, water was warm and scenic views for miles. We frolic in the water and relaxed in the sand. We could not have asked for a better day to start our vacation off. Second day was my birthday. We decided to do some shopping in town. We came across some very unique stores. Later that day, we had more time at the beach then off to dinner to celebrate my birthday. We went to Flipperz - awesome time!!

Best beach vacation for our entire family

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the Shangri La on Emerald Isle. We rented both sides of the duplex to accommodate us, our 3 children, and grandchildren. We couldn’t have found a better place. The set up was perfect. Better than anywhere we have stayed before and we will definitely be coming back to this home. Everyone loved the large private heated pool and the beautiful beach only steps away. The views were spectacular any part of the day or evening. Don, the owner, checked in on us to make sure everything was as we expected. All the years we have been taking our children (and now grandchildren) on vacation they told us this was best place we have ever stayed at.

Awesome rental!

  • 5 of 5

We had a most enjoyable time. The accommodations were great, the home was clean, and well equip. Having beds already made and linens provided was definitely a plus. To be able to look out and enjoy the ocean with your morning cup of coffee doesn't get much better than that. The pool was the best part of all. The fact that it was heated was awesome. We spent most of our day in or around the pool.

Wonderful Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

We took my 90 year old mother to this house for a week to celebrate her birthday. We could not have picked a better place, The house was tastefully decorated, spacious for seven adults, with a terrific view of the ocean. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. No way to describe how much fun the heated pool was.(day and night) With a shallow entry my mom was able to get in the warm water. We shared the pool with another family and became instant friends. The house is within walking distance to the pier. High winds, because of Hurricane Irma, prevented us from going in the ocean, but was a beautiful view of a ferious ocean from the house. We were worried that the steps at the front of the house would be too much for my mom, but she managed them quite well. The owner, Don, is friendly and very easy to work with. He messaged a couple of times to check to make sure all was well. No compaints from us!

We are looking forward to going baack!!

Terrific property

  • 5 of 5

This was the third year we have rented from Don and we intend to continue to rent from him for years to come. We drive our family of 5 down 19 hours to Don's beach house from central Wisconsin. The drive is well worth it. Don has always addressed any maintenance issues that we have had or have arisen during our stays in a very timely manner. Don is a great property owner and takes great pride in his property. And that pool.... What else is there to day about that pool except it is amazing. Nothing like having an awesome pool and the beauty, sounds and smells of the ocean all in your back yard. The ease of getting to this property also makes it very attractive. Anyone who has been to Emerald Isle before knows how busy Highway 58 can be on change over days and this property is only about 1 mile after going over the bridge. Take a right at the 3rd stop light and you are there. If you like seeing dolphins leisurely swimming past from time to time, and I mean right where one can easily see them, this is a great place to dolphin watch. We had a dolphin probably within 50 feet of the beach this year while at least 3 others from the pod probably swam by roughly 100 yards out in the waves. Awesome!! Counting down the weeks already until we can bring our family back again next year. David and Jessica V

Best vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the Shangra-la !! The house was everything we expected and so much more! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need. Plenty of seating for the 8 of us with comfy sofas to lounge on. The bedrooms were roomy with very comfortable beds with lots of fluffy pillows ! The view from tbe master was awesome and it was great to be able to sit out on your own private balcony. The beach access was perfect, every morning I would sit there with my coffee and watch the waves and I did see dolphins!! The pool is absolutely incredible!! It's huge and heated!!!! This was a definate perk for us since we did have a few days of rain but we hung out in the massive warm pool and had just as much fun!! We stayed on the east side and our friends were on the west side. There were plenty of pool and deck chairs for us all and plenty of room For big rafts and 16 people in the large pool!! We all said this was the best vacation and hope to spend more vacations there in the future!! Don was the best and took care of anything we needed! I highly recommend the Shangra-la for your vacation!!

Very Nice Vacation Home with the Absolute Best Pool!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice rental. Beautiful views of the beach and ocean.

Our kids loved the pool and it was a perfect way to cool off for the adults too. We have stayed at many Oceanfront Pool Homes and this Pool can’t be beat! It is new, VERY LARGE with a great sense of privacy, great views, nice concrete deck (cool to the feet), and we loved looking at the pool water…it was so clean (great maintenance). The nice, wide, shallow pool steps allowed our older family members mobility and participation in family fun as well as added safety for the children. The house is very close to the ocean so you have great views and not very far to walk over the sand before getting to the ocean. The large deck overlooking the ocean and the oceanfront sitting deck were probably my favorite parts of the house where I could sit and watch the children in the pool and watch the ocean waves at the same time. For our young children, the best part of the house was the easy access to the beach from the house. The views of the ocean are spectacular. The owner was always immediately accessible to answer our questions. We were told before we booked that this was an older home with a new pool. Everything was just fine. We loved the open floor plan. The house was comfortable. The beds were so comfortable. The lockbox entry saved us from having to do a check-in and check-out wait at a Realtor or having to deal with that traffic. We were very satisfied all in all. We had a very lovely vacation and family memories that will last a lifetime.
