Why Margret Cornell chose Florida

America's warm weather wilderness. Located at the very souther tip of the state next to the Everglades Park in the calm marine environment. Alligators don't exist in this marine type location, just birds and fish.

Family friendly. Lots of room.

Three bedrooms, 2 baths, large dining, living and kitchen. the unit has two queen beds in separate rooms and a twin bunk bed with an extra futon in the 3rd room. Three adults or 2 couples sleeping together and the futon with bunks bedroom. More? I'd suggest co-renting with Parkway Motel (trailers, cottage and rooms) that's just steps from our place. Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a great time in Chokoloskee! The house was perfect, we tried to leave it in as good shape as we found it..."

"We were quite successful with our fishing, getting snook, redfish, trout, sheepshead, grouper, ladyfish, and snapper. Luckily I didn't hit any oyster bars and only got stuck in the mud twice. What a wild place, It was exactly what I was looking for, and I look forward to another excursion."

Thanks again,

Big Blue as this property is affectionately called is a double wide mobile home on Chokoloskee Island located on the south western coast of Florida. In fact it is probably the southern most inhabited spot on the west coast, between the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park. It is a small outpost of civilization in a vast watery wilderness, a wilderness that can be either a playground or a proving ground, or ground zero for your failures in planning, preparation and material.

But when you are done battling fish, oyster bars, mud flats and mazes of mangrove islands you can return to the comfort of Big Blue, hot showers, AirConditioning, TV's and the internet. Relax out on the spacious deck, and chat with the friendly locals who pass by on foot or bike. A conveniently located hose makes quick work of the boating/fishing clean up chores. The kitchen is complete with a stove to prepare your catch, a refrigerator/freezer to keep you drinks cool, a microwave and all of the utensils, flat ware, etc. you might need. There is even a dish washer. There is a large dining table, a living room with a plenty of comfortable seating and large flat screen tv with a roku unit hooked up to the wifi. There is a utility room with a washer and dryer to keep you in clean clothes. Sleeping accommodations are plentiful and comfortable. There are two queen sized beds, a double and a bunk bed, and of course the sofas in the living room.

Big Blue is within walking distance of all of the amenities and sights on the island. There is a post office, a restaurant (check seasonal hours), several marinas that also sell basic tackle and bait. Non-ethanol gas can be had at the marina arriving on the island over the causeway. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere on the island reminds me of summering with my grandparents on another island in the '70s and early '80s. Calm, quiet, little traffic that travels slowly, children playing out doors.

Highly recommended for an unsophisticated getaway without pressure.

Very good place to stay on the island

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I stayed here for 4 nights. Four of us were in for a multi-day fishing trip, and this place worked very well for our plans.

The listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, and amenities. The location was perfect because it was within walking distance of the marina where we met our fishing guides each morning. The property was well maintained and was very clean when we arrived. Given the cooler weather and lack of mosquitoes, we especially enjoyed being able to hang out on the deck in the evenings. We received very good customer service from the owner. Getting into the property was easy and we were provided good instructions on using the air conditioning, the TV, the internet, and everything else about the property. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay on the island with good access to the marina and the water. Our main activity was fishing. We did go to restaurants for dinner, and our favorite was the Havana Grill.

My wife and I traveled from Ontario Canada to Chokoloskee to escape the winter. The previous reviews and the accommodations were a definite factor in choosing this rental.

Our positive experience with this accommodation started with the owner Walter. He was prompt, friendly , accommodating, and always available when needed.

This property was excellent value for the 2 months we spent there. The reviews and property description are accurate. The accommodation is spacious, clean, and well equipped. It had everything to make our stay comfortable.

We used it as our base while we explored everything the Everglades area had to offer. We took the time to visit all the tourist areas. Our favorites were Loop road , the Oasis center ,and Shark valley.

This accommodation is also a good location to try your hand at the great fishing the area has to offer. We spent many hours enjoying catching a variety of fish.

The Everglades City/ Chockoloskee area is also an excellent area for cycling. There is an easy path to ride on the causeway between Everglades city and the Island.

Walter's home is part of a very friendly community. The boardwalk by the docks is a great area to sit by the water, meet other residents, and make new friends.

Thank you Walter for your genuine hospitality. We would certainly consider staying again

Clean, comfortable, relaxing stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

Great place in the middle of the 10,000 Islands. The unit is clean, well maintained, and has everything you could need. Great place for a home base to explore Everglades National Park and the surrounding area. I spent a month kayaking, fishing, and camping while using the unit as a home base and could not have been happier. Walter was super helpful and always available to answer any questions.

Comfortable, spacious housing. Fantastic location. Wonderful property owner

  • 5 of 5

Very nice accommodations. Plenty of space inside. all appliances work great. Down the road from a marina. I rented a small boat with an outboard motor on it and made some adventures around the mangroves bordering the gulf. Super close to Everglade city where there are plenty of opportunities for alligator and manatee adventures. wildlife abounds around here. I wish I could have stayed longer. The property owner was always available and super friendly.
