We'd love to share our home with you!
Your home away from home, a stone's throw from the Capitol. Spread out in 2600 square feet of well appointed living space on multiple levels. Skip the hotel rooms and enjoy a comfortable stay in a spacious home you will look forward to returning to.
You will love staying in our historic 1850s home on Queen Street just steps away from all Old Town Alexandria has to offer. The large house has been renovated and modernized from top to bottom with gorgeous details throughout -- crown molding, built in bookshelves, exposed brick, working fireplace, fully stocked kitchen. We live in the nearby suburbs but love staying here and know you will feel like its your home away from home too. A great place to gather your friends and family. Plan your dinner out in Old Town or cook a meal at home in the well appointed full sized kitchen. There is room to spend time together in the large living room, basement family room, or out back on the private patio and yard. Or send the kids to the attic if you need a break.
Perfect for families or groups with plenty of space to spread out in. The house has three bedrooms and has room to sleep 10. Each of the bedrooms has a queen bed, plus there is sleeping for two more in the attic media room, and an additional pull out sofa in the living room. Full finished basement also has TV and room to relax. Clawfoot tubs in the 2 modern full baths, and one additional 1/2 bath. Unusual for the neighborhood, there is a large fenced yard with beautiful private outdoor patio. A great place for a cook out or sitting around the fire pit on a chilly fall night. There is also a playground and basketball court right at the corner.
We are two blocks from King Street, which is the main street through Old Town. Its just a few minute walk to sights, shops, restaurants, and nightlife. If you feel lazy, there is the free Old Town Trolley that goes the length of King Street. There is a stop every few blocks, just hop on and you can ride down to the waterfront. City Bike rental stations are also nearby. Its easy to go out and enjoy all the great shops, historic sites and restaurants in Old Town.
The metro is also just five blocks away for easy access to downtown DC. We also have off street parking for 2 cars accessed through the alley. The house also has cable, high speed wi-fi internet, and laundry.
We're looking forward to sharing our home with you.

About Don McCarthy
We live in the nearby suburbs and bought this house as a home renovation project. This house has been a labor of love for us as we slowly renovated. The house was smaller and used as a boarding house when we bought it, but we have done a complete top to bottom renovation -- including adding the entire basement level!! The outside is historic, but everything inside is modernized to todays standards.
Don McCarthy purchased this House in 2001
Why Don McCarthy chose Old Town West
We come down and stay here as often as we can. We have lots of ties to Old Town-- we met in one of Old Towns favorite watering holes -- Murphys Irish Pub, had our first date at the Hard Times Cafe, and spend alot of time out and about in Old Town. Eventually we plan to retire here, but until then, we would like to share it with you!
What makes this House unique
This house is quite big for Old Town, so you will have more room than most. You may feel like staying in -- cook meals in the large kitchen or out back on the grill, spend some time hanging out in the house, or on the patio. But the location is quite central just two blocks from Old Towns main drag, King Street. If you are going into DC, the metro is only 5 blocks away.

The house is even better then the photos.
We all loved this home! We were delighted to find that that the home was "top of the line." Just perfect. Very, very spacious, immaculate home. Everything the other reviewers say is true.
We came for four days for our daughter's wedding. We enjoyed the outside patio and yard every day. We had a welcome bbq one night and a cocktail party another night. Everyone raved about the home. The owners are responsive and very gracious. Well located for walking to King Street and Metro. The two parking spaces that came with the house are a real plus when you drive in from out of state. We will come again! Thank you.
A wonderful property in every respect!
We had a great time in this lovely house in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, VA — the property is the perfect combination of history and modern convenience — owners welcoming and informative, everything sparkling, the spacious, private backyard was a rare plus — thanks for a great VRBO experience!
Class-A Homeowner = Great Stay
Would choose this house again and again....
We came up to celebrate a weekend with friends to have fun in the city and enjoy the nightlife. Jaki told me that all would be taken care in regards to home needs and in the best way possible this was almost an understatement!!!! They provided everything we needed from kitchen sponges, to bath soaps, and other traditional house needs, all the way to firewood and corn hole boards. The house was very comfortable and our hosts, not living too far away, told us to reach out if we needed anything - Class-A Treatment!!!!
We will definitely use HomeAway again and if Jaki and Don's home is available it is our first choice!! #1!
Good for families.. owners are very responsive.
We had a family of 6 adults and two children.
Space was good. Owners included lots of incidentals which was great!
Perfect... no kidding!
Well appointed, gracious hosts, comfortable, elegant, central location, all u hope for, and more! Bj
Lovely home in old Alexandria.
This home served us extremely well for our long weekend in Alexandria. We were here for a family wedding, and were joined by our three adult children, their spouses and one grandchild. The house is spacious, well appointed and nicely furnished. We found it very comfortable and the location was great. We could walk to the wedding events, the riverfront and lots of restaurants, shops, etc. The patio and outdoor space was wonderful and allowed us to enjoy the great weather.
I would definitely recommend this home to anyone seeking lodging for a group of the apprpriate size.
Old Town Alexandria is one of the oldest towns in the country, yet vibrant with small boutique shops and restaurants. Stroll through the historic neighborhood to the Potomac River and see the places where George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and many others made history. You are also just a short drive to downtown Washington DC and all our Nation's Capital has to offer.
