Space 2,600 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10

Your home away from home, a stone's throw from the Capitol. Spread out in 2600 square feet of well appointed living space with all the comforts of home.

You will love staying in this historic 1850s home on Queen Street just steps away from all Old Town Alexandria has to offer. The large house has been renovated and modernized from top to bottom with gorgeous details throughout -- crown molding, built in bookshelves, exposed brick, working fireplace. We live in the nearby suburbs but love staying here and know you will feel like its your home away from home too.

Perfect for families or groups with lots of space to spread out. The house has three bedrooms and has room to sleep 10. Each of the bedrooms has a queen bed, plus there is sleeping for two more in the attic media room, and an additional pull out sofa in the living room. Full finished basement also has TV and room to relax. Clawfoot tubs in the 2 modern full baths, and one additional 1/2 bath. Unusual for the neighborhood, there is a large fenced yard with beautiful outdoor patio. A great place for a cook out or sitting around the fire pit on a chilly fall night. There is also a playground and basketball court right at the corner.

We are two blocks from King Street, which is the main street through Old Town. Its just a few minute walk to sights, shops, restaurants, and nightlife. If you feel lazy, there is the free Old Town Trolley that goes the length of King Street. There is a stop every few blocks, just hop on and you can ride down to the waterfront. City Bike rental stations are also nearby. Its easy to go out and enjoy all the great shops, historic sites and restaurants in Old Town. If you want to stay in and eat at home, the kitchen is large and fully stocked for everything you need to cook in.

The metro is also just five blocks away for easy access to downtown DC. We also have off street parking for 2 cars accessed through the alley. The house also has cable, high speed wi-fi internet, and laundry.

We're looking forward to sharing our home with you.

About Don McCarthy

We live in the nearby suburbs and bought this house as a home renovation project. This house has been a labor of love for us as we slowly renovated. The house was smaller and used as a boarding house when we bought it, but we have done a complete top to bottom renovation -- including adding the entire basement level!! The outside is historic, but everything inside is modernized to todays standards.

Don McCarthy purchased this house in 2001

Why Don McCarthy chose Alexandria

We come down and stay here as often as we can. We have lots of ties to Old Town-- we met in one of Old Towns favorite watering holes -- Murphys Irish Pub, had our first date at the Hard Times Cafe, and spend alot of time out and about in Old Town. Eventually we plan to retire here, but until then, we would like to share it with you!

What makes this house unique

This house is quite big for Old Town, so you will have more room than most. You may feel like staying in -- cook meals in the large kitchen or out back on the grill, spend some time hanging out in the house, or on the patio. But the location is quite central just two blocks from Old Towns main drag, King Street. If you are going into DC, the metro is only 5 blocks away.

Great location and perfect house for big or multiple families

  • 5 of 5

We spent our time in Old Town for my step daughters wedding. This house allowed space for my family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) my sister in laws family of four (2 adults 2 kids) my father in law and a babysitter stay in the house comfortably. Having the yard and playground across the street gave the kids a place to run around in between family events.

We did not do much by way of touristy things, but we were able to enjoy many of the local restaurants within easy walking distance. We did also do a boat tour to georgetown on our last day that left from the end of king street. Also, it was an inexpensive uber ride into the city... for those who might not want to take the metro which was just a few blacks away.

But I cannot stress enough how great this house was. Spacious, clean, and had everything we needed stocked (except the food of course). Don and Jacki both were very nice and good to work with, assuring us that they were not far if we needed something (which we did not).

I would certainly book this place again if our travels took us back to DC/Old Town.

Fabulous row house in terrific location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home, exactly as described, in immaculate condition. Very tastefully renovated but retaining lots of historic charm. Well equipped and very spacious for an older row house. Location is perfect to visit old town and Washington DC. Hosts were very helpful and flexible with check in and check out, a bonus for travellers flying in from the UK. We would not hesitate to recommend this property or rebook it should we return.

Beautiful house in Alexandria

  • 5 of 5

This house provided the perfect location. Great restaurants and shopping were within walking distance. We had a rental car, but didn't use it all that much.

We were there to visit our son who recently moved to the D.C. area. Six of us slept quite comfortably. We very much enjoyed the backyard while enjoying long discussions over wine.

The Street Metro station is a short walk for those who don't want to obtain a rental car.

This home is beautiful. We would definitely come back and stay at this property.

Nothing better in this area!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was absolutely perfect for my family's celebration of my med school graduation. Four of us were able to sleep comfortably (more could have stayed comfortably as well), and there was room for guests to visit in the wonderful outdoor space. I live in the area and can confidently stay that yards this large are few and far between in Alexandria. The house has everything you could need to host a few friends (grill, fire pit, kitchenware) and Don and Jaki could not have been more helpful. I would love to stay here again, and would absolutely recommend this house!!!

Comfortable, charming house close to everything in Old Town Alexandria

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six greatly enjoyed four nights in this historic house. Everything was beautifully clean, well planned, and carefully maintained. We appreciated the laundry room, the ironing board, the condiments in the kitchen, the enticing bookshelves, and the generous patio with its table, grill and extra chairs. The house is very close to the best restaurants in Alexandria plus a great massage studio, coffee shop, and antique shop. We were able to walk to my nephew's wedding at Christ Church. The owners were helpful and accommodating. They obviously love the area and try hard to make sure their guests like it, too.
