About Vittorio, Shevonne & Joe

Vittorio, an Italian citizen, is a chemist by trade who worked as a lab technician in Italy for two decades. In fact, he analyzed the water from our well and says it's chemically good, hard water! He loves traveling, reading, and nature.

In 2013 Vittorio went on holiday in Costa Rica and fell in love with the country and in particular with the Caribbean coast.

By the time he was on the plane heading home he had incorporated a company, bought a piece of land and contracted with a local builder to begin construction of a few bungalows.

He quit his positions in Europe in the summer of 2014 to move to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and begin his dream job: Casitas Las Flores!

Vittorio manages the property with Joe and Shevonne, a Canadian couple who moved to Puerto Viejo with their house cat Archer in 2014. Joe is a photographer by trade and Shevonne has her own online business. They love managing Casitas Las Flores and will always do everything they can to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Vittorio, Shevonne & Joe purchased this bungalow in 2013

Why Vittorio, Shevonne & Joe chose Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

At Casitas Las Flores we offer our guests an opportunity to disconnect from the rapid pace of modern day life so they can relax and immerse in nature.

Vittorio, Joe and Shevonne have lived hectic lives before moving here and know the importance of being able to recharge. Come join us for some rest and relaxation and enjoy Pura Vida!

What makes this bungalow unique

We are just 1 km from the center of town but we are located at the end of a quiet road confined by a gentle stream and a botanical reserve. Our lush flower garden is often visited by sloths, butterflies and birds of all kinds and it is a wonderful place to just lay on a hammock and let time gently slide by.

A pleasant stay in a beautiful place with great people.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent our first week ever in Costa Rica at CLF, and it was great. The hosts were outstanding, kind and extremely helpful. The bungalow was absolutely perfect. It was quiet, clean, and private. We loved the location just a short walk to the beach and a quick drive to Puerto Viejo. We really enjoyed the beaches in the area, reading on the porch, and listening to the rain on the roof. It was the perfect spot for us.

A great place for fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

we arrived late our first day in Costa Rica, to our home for 16 days. the shuttle driver found casitas las Flores. he honked the horn to announced our arrival. we were tired, but the welcoming smiles of Shevonne and Joseph made all the differences in our welcome. there was never a day that we never got a welcome smile and hello. The accommodations are very good and met our expectations. The flora and vegetation was beautiful and well kept. We enjoyed the beach and local surroundings. We want to thank Shevonne, Joseph and Victorio for a great time and we fully plan on returning to Cositas las Flores

Casitas Las Flores is the perfect bungalow in the perfect location!

  • 4 of 5

Casitas Las Flores provided us with everything we needed in a casitas. The cabina was very clean, well-equipped, and perfectly located to beach and town activities. We saw lots of birds on the property and sloths as we walked to and from the casitas. Joe and Shevonne were super hosts and made sure all of our needs were met, and then some. The location is ideal, even if you don't have a car, you can walk less than 5 minutes and you are on the beach, another 10 minutes and you are in Puerto Viejo with all the shops and restaurants that it has to offer, or hop on a bus and go to Manzanillo and you have some of the best snorkeling and hiking on the Caribbean side. You can't go wrong here, the casitas are very clean and comfy, and Joe and Shevonne will take excellent care of you.

Great casita with the Costa Rican jungle as your back garden.

  • 4 of 5

We were met by friendly smiles and a warm welcome upon our arrival after a long day traveling. Overall the bungalow was clean and cosy with everything you need for self catering. Our only negative feedback is that the coffee maker is too small for two. The beach, shops, and restaurants just a few minutes walk away with even more shops and things to see and do in the center of Puerto Viejo, accessible by foot or bicycle.

A place of pure bliss...

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I just returned from one of the most peaceful and relaxing vacations ever with our stay at "Casitas Las Flores" to blame. "Casitas" was just that, a home that offered warmth, tranquility, and comfort. Upon arrival, we received a happy greeting from the owners. They welcomed us as if we were friends not meeting for the first time. A brief tour of the beautiful garden and bungalow was given and then we were handed the keys. Once in the bungalow we were please to find fresh linens and calming decorations. After a day, we realized we were only a 5 minute walk from Playa Negra (Black sanded beach) and 10-15 minutes walking distance from "El Pueblo" or the main town filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. On days where we didn't want to walk, the owners were always available to call a cab for us. One day we took bikes (available for rental at the bungalow) and rode to Cocles Playa. The second day we were surprised to find a welcome treat homemade by the lovely owners. The bungalow is about 4 hours from the San Jose airport but the bungalow's location in the jungle, the short distance from the town and beaches, and the great hospitality made it all worth it. If you are looking to have a true Costa Rican experience in the jungle embedded in a town with beaches, locals, and a Caribbean culture, Puerto Viejo is the place to be and "Casitas" is your place to stay. If we have the chance to return we will without a doubt return to "Casitas".

My dive trip

  • 5 of 5

This was absolutely one of the most comfortable, laid back, quiet, serene places that I have had the privilege to to stay at. The owners are wonderful people. Very helpful and extremely accommodating. They make sure that everything you need or want is taken care of. The property is just far enough out of town that is very private. Close enough that all is a short walk, beautiful place.

Things To Do

The Town Of Puerto Viejo De Talamanca

We find this blog describes it best: 'Puerto Viejo is an awesome, laidback, Caribbean, Euro-backpacker, Rasta-surfer town on the south Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. This tiny little town offers up an amazing variety of international culinary flavors as well as a wide variety of experiences to choose from. You can surf the world famous Salsa Brava, relax in the natural rock tide pools at the edge of the ocean, party the night away downtown, or unwind in a secluded jungle bungalow!'

One of the best places to snorkel is Cahuita National park which has the largest coral reef in South Central America. There are lots of tour options that combine a boat ride to the reef followed by hiking in the rain forest. When we snorkeled we saw lots of colorful fish, a stingray and even a small tiburon (shark) sleeping at the bottom of the ocean!

Scuba Diving

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica offers over 50 miles of pristine coral reef to explore, extending from Puerto Viejo to the Panama border. There are two dozen fixed diving sites that range from low depth to several hundred feet deep!

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is well known for its world class surfing. The famous Salsa Brava waves are near Puerto Viejo. These are thick Hawaiian style waves that build in deep water and break over a shallow reef.

Sea Kayaking

This is another fun outdoor excursion to do in the area with lovely cliffs and caves to explore along the coast. Many tours also combine the experience with a hike in the rain forest.

Horseback Riding

Explore beaches on the back of a lovely horse with the help of a guide.

Canopy Tour

A typical experience to make when in Costa Rica is to zip-line through the rain forest getting a birds-eye view of the flora and the fauna that lives in the tree tops while getting an adrenaline rush!

Cahuita National Park

One of the most beautiful national parks which extends for several miles along the coast just north of Puerto Viejo. Beyond the breathtaking beaches here you will see lots of wildlife from howler monkeys to sloths and racoon. You can explore the park on your own or take a guided tour.

Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and Turtle Watching

This amazing ecological treasure is one of the primary sites for the nesting of leatherback turtles. It offers also spectacular beaches and a wide ecological diversity.

Jaguar Animal Rescue Center

This is a wonderful way to experience the local wildlife up close and learn about them from some very dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer guides. The best part for us is interacting with baby monkeys and seeing the sloths up close!

Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve

'The Kekoldi people were once part of the Bribri indigenous tribe, but formed their own, separate group years ago. Today, they live at the base of the Talamanca Mountains, in a reserve that is known for migrating birds of prey, green iguana protection efforts, medicinal herb gardens and beautiful handmade crafts'

Chocolate Tour

Cocoa trees are indigenous to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. You can find a few of them in our very own garden at Casitas las Flores! This tour will give a chance to learn and enjoy one of nature's greatest gifts!

Tortuguero National Park

Despite its remote location (about 3 hours of scenic boat ride from Limon) this is the third most visited park in Costa Rica for its amazing biodiversity. You can experience toucans, spider and howler monkeys, the majestic morpho butterfly, the basilisk lizards and so much more in their natural habitat. You'll be taken by boat through the delta of the river running through the park by a local guide who will amaze you with their ability to spot animals and repeat bird calling sounds!

Pacuare Whitewater Rafting

About a one hour drive from Puerto Viejo you can experience whitewater rafting in the pristine waters of the Pacuare river. The river is located in a natural gorge and offers an exciting ride while being up close to waterfalls, the virgin tropical rain forest and colorful tropical birds flying above you.
