About Paul and Joyce Hofemann

Paul and Joyce were married in 1997 and have three children, twin girls and a son. After living in California and New York we moved to Austin, Texas in 2007. Recently we visited Colorado to escape the Texas summer heat and fell in love with Estes Park. We decided to purchase a second home in this beautiful area for our personal getaway as well as offer it as short term vacation rental for others who want to enjoy the Rocky Mountains.

Paul and Joyce Hofemann purchased this house in 2015

Why Paul and Joyce Hofemann chose Estes Park

Walking distance to downtown restaurants, few hundred yards from Thompson River for fly fishing, large deck overlooking golf course lot that is frequented by large elk during rut season.

What makes this house unique

Parking downtown is nearly impossible during peak summer months. Our property is within walking distance of downtown while still in a quiet, natural setting of a golf course. Elk frequently pass thru our backyard to get to their favorite meeting spots on this golf course.

Fantastic fall getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This house is awesome! This was our third year in a row to stay at this property and it never disappoints. Elk were all over the golf course behind the house and one large elk even ended up in the back yard! It was fantastic and we will definitely return. The house has everything the 8 of us could possibly need and perfect location as well. We LOVE this house and the owners are always immediately responsive to anything we need.

Great Home, great views, great location

  • 5 of 5

The home was perfect. We came for a wedding, 6 adults, and we were very happy. The views from the house were nice, and we had lots of entertainment with the elks wandering thru the golf course and sleeping in the yard. The house was clean, the kitchen was great, and it was just a short distance to town.

Very, Very Disappointing. Property Did Not Meet The High Expectations Promoted.

  • 2 of 5

I wish I didn't have to write this review because this house is in a great location, but is not being maintained on the outside as you would think from the website images. We even had to arrange for a second internal clean as well as doing our own additional cleaning! Flyscreens were dirty (dust and cobwebs) and the tops of the ceiling fan blades in the Master were covered in dust!

Outside Deck & Furniture

This is in poor condition and has some screws protruding above the timber deck so you MUST have footwear. The paint on the handrails is peeling off and the stairs to the garden are quite wobbly. Some of the outdoor furniture cushions have split along the seams and the filler is dropping out. The Grille? Old, dirty, broken element and ready for the garbage bin.

The outside of the property is also significantly covered with cobwebs. I'm talking hundreds! Outside windows (excluding doors onto patio), under the deck and elsewhere. The owner advised that they do a “deep clean” twice a year and IF that is true, then they need to do it more often because when I rent a property then I want it immaculate both inside and out. A few cobwebs? Sure, I can accept that, but this was excessive. Interestingly the rental property next door was very spot on.

Pet Friendly

The website doesn't say that this is a “Pet Friendly” house, but the info book has the tag that they “have white sheets…if your dog likes to sleep with you” and it was unfortunate that we found pet hair on the bedspread in the master bedroom! This was a big put off for us and yes we do have dogs, but each to their own.

In peak season this property is top dollar and yes I appreciate it is an older property but a “Beautiful, updated house” it is not. I am happy to pay, but I was extremely disappointed with the owner’s dismissive attitude to our concerns and knowing that for a couple of hundred bucks or less, the house could have been presented as a fantastic experience.

True, it is in a beautiful location. There is no air-con, but the fans work well and the Wi-Fi was also OK. The kitchen/meals area has been updated and includes a nice big fridge, newish microwave and gas range. There is plenty of nice cutlery. We all agreed that the lounge furniture and the mattresses were very comfortable although the sheets looked more like a Walmart purchase than “luxury linens” mentioned on the website. A little more TLC and attention to detail and this property could be a real winner.

Owner's Response: We are disappointed our guest did not enjoy her stay. As you can see from previous reviews including guests immediately proceeding her stay that is not the normal experience. We pride ourselves in receiving great reviews. Within 40 minutes of her arrival and call to us we had 4 cleaners at the house. They took care of areas of our guests concern. I would like to add the cleaners had just been there earlier that day so it had been cleaned prior to her arrival. We visit our home multiple times per year and frequently update any items we feel are aging/damaged. The sheets mentioned were just purchased in last year and were not cheap. The Weber gas grill mentioned is less than 2 years old and the grill piece replaced this year. As evidenced by pictures sent to us from under the deck there were cobwebs and weeds. We will be taking care of that but do not feel that would have taken away from a great experience at our home. There are no cobwebs/excessive dust inside. Yes the outside cushions are due to be replaced and were on our list for this year. Keep in mind this is the Rocky Mountains and we have herds of wild elk walk through our backyard often. - you can go fly fishing just 300 yards away. We were disappointed to receive a request for a 20% refund in the same message as quoting they frequently write reviews. They wanted a 20% discount while staying in our home. When we did not accommodate their request we were expecting this review, Since we have never received a review less than 4 stars and mainly 5 stars we are confidant this review does not accurately reflect the experience our guests receive.
