Nestled in the Newfound River Valley, this modern slice of Country-French Asheville is just 15-20 minutes from downtown and has some of the best views in the whole region, with mountain scenes you'd expect an hour or more out.
From the front deck you can see the whole 180 degree panorama of the Newfound valley, reminiscent of a Little Switzerland meeting The Hobbit's Shire. It's beautiful and peaceful, and the sunsets can be breathtaking, especially from the Hot Tub.
Paradise Cottage is furnished and decorated in a modern slightly Country-French style - unique, tasteful and comfy with lots of original artwork collected in our travels. We stay here as well and like it to feel luxurious, peaceful and cozy.
Two good sized bedrooms, both with plush queen beds, look out onto peaceful woods behind the cottage. Our beds are high quality with comfortable mattresses and great linens. We love to sleep, especially on vacation, and are proud of how comfy the beds are!
There's a wood stove which keeps the house nice and toasty in the winter (central heat too if you don't want to build a fire). On the deck you can lounge on the chairs or relax in the hot tub while enjoying the sweeping mountain views. Entertain yourself inside with satellite TV, Internet, Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, HBO and Pandora subscriptions (and anything else you care to find on our Roku player).
This is one of three dwellings situated on a 5 acre family property that has a nice secluded feel. We live downstairs in a completely separate unit. You will enjoy full privacy, but we are also available to help via phone or text if need be.
There'll be a dozen fresh, local, free-range eggs and starter of fresh roasted coffee for you when you arrive provided by local neighbors who run a premium roasting business in town. We also provide all linens for you.
We hope you book with us so we can show you our hospitality!
This VRBO partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
We are married and in our youthful 60's :-) We love to explore Western North Carolina, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike the trails, try new restaurants or return to our favorites ... we love this place!
John grew up in Florida, is a Vietnam war veteran, has traveled extensively, and is a retired federal officer. Kathy grew up in Colorado and is a licensed minister, director of a thriving Community Services ministry, and the church administrator at Foster SDA Church.
Both Serenity House and Paradise Cottage are on the same property. We live in the basement apartment of Paradise Cottage. You will enjoy your privacy; however, should you need us, we are readily available by phone or text.
John and Kathy purchased this cottage in 2008
Asheville is one of the prettiest, most unique and interesting cities in America and the mountains around here are absolutely gorgeous. It would be difficult to find an all around better place to live or visit.
When we found this property we were blown away by how remote and peaceful and epic the setting is for only being a 15-20 minute drive to town. I've lived in Asheville for almost 15 years and always thought we would have to go an hour away to get something like this. Sarah, who comes from Atlanta, was accustomed to half-hour commutes to anywhere she wanted to go, and couldn't believe we could live in the country and still get downtown quicker than she could in her Atlanta urban apartment. The only bad part about this property is we don't like to leave because it's just so nice up here, and so our social life can tend to suffer!
It's really a million dollar view. Sometimes when I'm out on the porch or in the field and the sun is setting I wonder how I got to be so lucky to live in such a place. It makes me think of some iconic Japanese mountain retreat or a vale in the Swiss Alps. We hope you'll enjoy it too!
This cottage was fantastic. Kathy has thought of everything - bring clothing and everything else you could need is available. The views are breathtaking - this place is really something special. Great location within 15 minutes of Asheville. We will definitely be back. Thank you John and Kathy.
The view was breathtaking, open floor plan, TONS of entertainment like Netflix, HBO etc, fully stocked kitchen, and only a 15 min drive to everything in Asheville! I couldn’t have asked for a better babymoon! I highly recommend!
Our family of four all enjoyed our spring break stay at this sweet little cottage nestled in the mountains. Asheville and Biltmore were both an easy drive away and hikes and drives on Blue Ridge Parkway were accessible within 45 minutes. Lovely place for an escape from city noise, lights and traffic.
We returned yesterday from a one-week stay at Paradise Cottage and highly recommend it to others looking for a comfortable, quiet stay in an ideal location for hitting both Asheville and hiking around the Blue Ridge Parkway area. In 6 days we did 4 hikes all within 50-75 minutes drive, plus one day of ziplining and a downtown day. The cottage was perfect for our small family of four. The view is well-displayed via pictures, but what I particularly enjoyed as a home cook was how well-equipped the kitchen was. I found all the gadgets and appliances I have at home (Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, blender, food processor, manual citrus juicer, toaster oven, abundant good pots, pans, cutting boards, lots of utensils and baking pans/dishes). For us, this made it very easy to cook at the cottage each night which is (for us) a great way to end the day after a long hike. The property owners are super welcoming, and available with excellent suggestions and to make you feel at home. There is a huge Ingles grocery store 9 minutes away, but the cottage also has all the basics which saved us from having to pack too much ahead of time - salt/pepper/sugar/condiments/storage containers/foil/dish detergent, etc. The bathroom is also well equipped with plenty of towels, hair dryer, curling iron and essentials (like basic shampoo if you forgot yours as one of our girls did). We enjoyed our visits with John (Kathy was super helpful by text with a great bbq recommendation but was away for part of our stay). I promised John I'd mention that a few hooks around the entry area would be a great addition for hanging coats, back packs, etc. for us hiker types. The cottage has lots of board games we enjoyed, and charcoal and equipment for the grill which we used 3 times. A good soak in the hot tub after hiking was another highlight. The bed in our room was super comfortable and there was tons of drawer and closet space for us to unpack and feel at home. We greatly appreciated the eggs and coffee upon arrival. We really enjoyed our stay and would return again if we head back to North Carolina. Thanks for your hospitality John and Kathy!
We were so comfortable in this beautiful cottage. Wish we could take that beautiful mountain view home with us! Huge windows all through living room means you can view it even from inside, but the front deck is great too. The fresh eggs were delicious and beautiful kitchen so fun to use.
Loved the convenience of the property to downtown, but with a nice country feel that made us feel like we were further away. Enjoyed the fresh eggs and coffee for breakfast in the mornings - nice welcoming touch! Overall, great experience!
