About the property

Large open floor plan with high ceilings and amazing vistas all around.

Welcome to Quicksilver Ranch! This is a beautiful piece of the Central Coast that we would love to share with you. At the top of Prefumo Canyon we have a rustic barn, turned beautiful vacation rental. It's a very large open space. There is one bedroom (queen bed) tucked behind a sliding barn door and a pull out couch in the entertainment room. We do have a large flat screen with cable and DVD player. Double sink bathroom and the shower has two shower heads. There is a full kitchen that is stocked with pots, pans and whatever you need to cook up a nice meal. The dining room and living room face a glass wall that can roll up with the touch of a button, showing the native landscape and incredible views. Stepping out from there is a patio and walkway out to a fire pit perfect for roasting marshmallows. There are fun little touches to our decor...the doors to the rooms are old barn doors and there are country antiques here and there that bring you back to a different time. This is a friendly and comfortable home.

About Andrew or Darla McCrory

We are a small family that loves the area. We grew up on the Central Coast and always wanted to live up here...our dreams came true! We now have the opportunity to share it with everyone else. We live on site so and wake up every morning with gratitude, this place is truly a sight to be seen.

What makes this barn unique

This is a getaway...360 degree views of mountain and ocean says it all. The front of the property overlooks Morro Rock and the back is Avila Valley down into Pismo. It is such a unique location on a peak as it's equidistant to San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach. One side takes you to shopping and historic cites in downtown SLO, wine tasting and amazing restaurants, along with a weekly Thursday evening farmer's market and the other takes you to wineries, apple orchards, and ends at the Avila Beach with a seasonal Spring/Summer Friday afternoon farmer's market.

Great stay!

We had a wonderful time at Quicksilver Ranch. Darla and Andrew were great hosts, and the property was pretty cool. It's wonderfully situated with beautiful views in a quiet, peaceful location. With fresh eggs from the on-site hens, how can you go wrong? Its a great place to stay, we'd recommend it.

Breathtaking long range mountain views, with hosts that feel like family. One of our favorite spots!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely love Quicksilver Ranch! This was our second time visiting, and we can't imagine staying anywhere else. It is only a short drive from SLO and offers fantastic views of the surrounding hills, all the way out to Morro Rock. It's so stunning that local residents will make the drive (or bike) up Prefumo Canyon Road at sunset, to enjoy a scenic overlook that is just a short walk away from the property. The view from the back porch offers similarly stunning visitas. On a clear day, you can see Avila Beach off in the distance, while sitting fireside by the chiminea or the fire pit.

In addition, Darla and Andrew are the quintessential hosts. Darla knew we were arriving very late with our 6 and 8 year old daughters and had the pullout couch setup and ready for us to carry them in and lay them down as soon as we got there. Our girls loved her tour of the chicken coop, not to mention fresh eggs that she left us for breakfast. After two stays in the past year they practically feel like family!

The space itself works well for our family of 4. The sleeping areas (bedroom and pullout) are small but nicely appointed. The kitchen is also nicely appointed - we've enjoyed cooking our own breakfasts and occasional dinners. With the large garage door open - mornings with a cup of coffee, clouds rolling through - or afternoons with a good book at sunset - and kids crafting or puzzles on the table... But evenings roasting s'mores in the chiminea and stargazing are everyone's favorite.

We almost hesitate to write a review for fear that others will learn about this amazing spot! It's so hard to leave and we can't wait to return.

Absolutely beautiful!

We had such a wonderful time at the Quicksilver Ranch.

The 360 views are breathtaking!

Both Morro Bay and Pismo Beach are visible from this vantage point.

Set on top of the ridge line, the home is ready for guests to enjoy the outdoors or settle in to quiet, cozy, clean surroundings.

Our hosts, Darla and Andrew, greeted us upon arrival like long lost family, providing us with all the amenities needed - well equipped kitchen, food in the pantry, comfortable furniture (and plenty of it for added guests), games, toys, chimineas, an outdoor fire pit, plenty of fresh linens, toiletries, and, because of our St. Patrick's day arrival, a complete, prepared corned beef and cabbage meal.

We could hardly ask for more.

The grounds are naturally gorgeous and provide access to lovely walks along the country road high above the scenic valleys and beaches.

We're looking forward to spending time there again soon.

This place is truly unique. This is our 2nd time staying here, last time we stayed in the summer, this time in the winter. Both times are excellent. It's a place to recharge and renew, take a walk, enjoy the scenery, breathe the fresh air. It's a welcoming country retreat from our daily life in Southern California. For day trips, downtown SLO and Avila Beach are about 30 minutes away. Have your groceries on hand upon arrival, but if you forget there is a great Whole Foods at the bottom of the hill about 5 miles away. Thanks Darla and Andrew for being such gracious hosts!

Perfect Central Coast Getaway

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a unique place to stay look no further. The Quicksilver Ranch offers a beautiful and unique place situated in the mountains of the central coast of California. We were very familiar with the location when booking as the views from the mountain top are exceptional. The property is well maintained and nicely furnished. I recommend stopping at the grocery store before heading up the hill so you have everything you need when your there. One of our favorite things was opening the large garage style door at the back of the unit, sitting on lounge chairs and watching the sunrise. We only stayed two nights but we experienced two amazing mornings watching the sky change colors. Unfortunately, we did not have more time to explore the property as we were down for my son's college graduation.

Did I mention the owners, Darla and Andrew, are the nicest people and go out of there way to ensure you have everything you need. We look forward to coming back again and again.

Exceeds all expectations

What an awesome and awe-inspiring vacation rental. My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Quicksilver Ranch and can't wait to come back. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get and so much more. The barn was wonderful and the views are amazing. We spent every morning with the garage door open wide to watch the sunrise over the valley as we drank our coffee and read our Bibles. It was amazing to read God's word while watching him work. The sunsets were even more amazing. Andrew & Darla (as well as Oliver & Poppy) are incredible hosts. We were very warmly welcomed and got the tour of the barn & property as soon as we arrived. Andrew and Darla are very accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay everything we wanted it to be and more. They were very willing to give us our space when we wanted it and were also great to be around. We had a wonderful cook out and night of fellowship on our last night there. It made it that much harder to leave the next morning. Andrew sent us on daily adventures complete with hand drawn maps to show us were to go to see the most amazing places that only the locals would know about. We would never have found or even known about the incredible places he sent us like Montana De Oro to see the tide pools and hike the trails or Lake Oso Flaco (We never would have found this gem). On our adventure up toBig Sur he showed us were to see the elephant seals as well as were to stop for lunch and our "final destination" at Nepenthe restaurant to watch the best sunset I've ever seen while sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean. We had a wonderful dinner before driving back down US 1 to the barn. We've stayed at a lot of vacation rentals over the years and this was definitely one of, if not the best one yet. The barn is great, the property is great, and Andrew and Darla and their family are great. We so enjoyed staying there and taking in all the Central Coast has to offer. SLO is an fun college town with all kinds of stores and great restaurants and Avilla Beach and Pismo Beach are a short trip down the road. It does take a little time to get up and down the mountain to and from the barn but it is so worth it every time. We look forward to someday coming back to this mountain oasis and hopefully bringing our children and grandchildren with us to enjoy this treasure. So glad we came, can't wait to return.
