This spacious two story loft style home is single house nestled away in its own sanctuary and garden refuge. Home is in walking distance to the hustle and bustle of the city - enjoy a stroll to Piedmont Ave., just two blocks away. Lake Merritt, Grand Lake District, and the upswinging downtown Oakland is also a city stroll away. SF is just 30 mins away by car or BART. Bus line is just one block away or you can walk over to MacArther BART station where you can jump into the city in 15 minutes. Your home has its own garden with waterfalls, a mini brooke, hand made cobb bench, outdoor mini loveseat sofa, lush full green garden and flowering bushes, succulents, vines, variety of fruiting trees, full sunshine, open sky, and 2 full sized palms. At night the area is lit with gentle outdoor accent lighting and low key path lights for a cozy private evening in your garden.

Your house is past the main garden, and then up into the top terrace section where the two waterfalls come together to form tiny brooks. Your front door is just to the right of where the water falls are divided and the rock paths unite. This upper area is your garden space while you may also see us gardening and maintaining the area from time-to-time. Guests have access to their own back garden area in the upper terrace, outdoor love lounge couch, hand made Cobb bench, upper terrace waterfalls, & private upper terrace patio flat.

The lower half area is our space, though of course you pass through it to enter your garden terrace. You may see us in our area of the garden from time-to-time in the lower half area, but we are friendly and love tending to the thriving garden and its relaxing offerings. Mostly though we are away and want to maintain a relaxing spot for your home away from home. We want to make sure you are enjoying yourself and having a lovely experience. In any manner, the garden is spacious, quiet, meditative, and full of sunlight, open sky and a full refuge from the city just blocks away.

Our priority is to give our guests as much privacy and quiet as you need. I'm also happy to be the concierge and share info about getting around the Bay Area, getting you settled into your home, finding great food, boutiques, grocery, market, etc. I know what it's like to be a visitor in an unfamiliar place, and if I can make the logistics easier for you then that makes me feel great.

The neighborhood is exceptional. Walking distance to Piedmont Avenue, Lake Merritt, Grand Lake District, and the upswinging downtown Oakland. Piedmont Ave. has everything for the foodie at heart, wine lovers, shops from vintage to shiny and new, morning lattes, evening movies, mom n pops bookstore, grocery. . . The Lake Merritt area is also host to an incredible array of shops and restaurants, but also offers a 3-mile-walk around the lake with the best sunsets and sunrises the east bay has to offer. Grassy picnic areas, bird rescue and refuge, fantastic bar and restaurant right on the water, and that peace of mind only a body of water can offer in the middle of a city with its thriving diversity.

Parking, is both long-term and short-term parking. The long-term includes a street sweeping day, just on day you must move your car, per month. And the short-term parking is 2-hour parking during daylight work hours. Read the signs carefully as they change per street. We have parked our cars on the streets for years and never have a problem finding a spot, no problem.

BART, which is the subway line here, is less than a mile away at the MacArthur stop. You can walk, taxi, bus or Uber it. Buses and the entire transit system is a great and easy way to get around the entire Bay Area. There are so many alternatives today.

No additional guest sleep-overs unless approved by us first. The cottage accommodates up to 2 people. If you would like to have a guest stay over, please kindly inquire with us first. There is a $200 additional charge for a guest past the 2 person occupancy rate -- in other words, a third guest. Please simply inquire if you know ahead of time you would like your loved ones to stay over.

No parties. No loud music or excessive noise. This is a quiet and sweet space with respecting neighbors. We wish to make your stay comfortable, cozy and like home for you. This is a respectful home and with all the values that follow the sense of "home". We only want you thriving and happy and enjoying your days and evenings, as well as those around us.

No pets or visiting pets please. No smoking unless outdoors, however please do not leave your cigarette butts in the garden.

Please feel free to ask us anything. Please do not hesitate to text us any questions, concerns or requests you may have at any hour. We are happy to accommodate you in any way we can! It is important to us that your stay is comfortable, cozy and well accommodated. Please do ask!

The guest maximum occupancy is 2 people. If you would like to have additional members of family or family/friends the additional rate is $200/person with a maximum of 2 additional people. You must bring your own form of mattress for the additional guest as the residence does not have room for the storage of such. People kindly communicate with us on this note so that we can work out the details and make sure the home is a good fit for you and so that everyone is comfortable.

Please kindly note that there is a cancellation notice requirement of thirty days for guests staying longer periods of time. This is in order to protect the opportunity for visitors coming within the dates of your booking. This is set to strict policy; that means we need a 60 day notice for cancellation.

CHECK-IN is at 3 p.m. and thereafter. Late night check-in is just fine as well. Please ask us if you would like an earlier check-in and we will be happy to look at the calendar.

CHECK-OUT is at 11 a.m. or before. Early check-out is just fine as well. Please ask us if you need a later check-out and we will be happy to look at the calendar.

Oakland. As some are saying the New Brooklyn. It is home to a new surge of creatives, innovators, entrepreneurs, activists, foodies, booming new businesses, great hubs and spaces for art, creative innovations, and so much more. It's a stone's throw away from San Francisco, with more sunshine, warmer weather, rising Art scene, great foodie digs, all on this side of the bridge. Your BART and bus transit system are built to keep you easily connected to both the our East Bay and the San Francisco City sides of the Bay Area.

Oakland is on the up and up and we are very grateful to be living and enjoying the neighborhoods, diversity, people from so many walks of life, arts, culture, food, music, and everything else that continues to inspire and surprise us. We hope you enjoy Oakland, the East Bay and the Bay Area in general during your stay here. Blessings on your travels and enjoy these days! Warmly, E & A

Thank you : ) We look forward to being your neighbors!

About Property Manager/Owner

Hello! My name is Eva and I would love to help you find your way around the East Bay or into the city. The East Bay is where my heart is, yet more specifically Oakland for it's cultural diversity, Arts, it's Mecca for building community through the people, creativity, diversity, celebration ... This is home. And still only 15 mins to SF. I am a foodie, a lover of the Arts, artist, cook, writer, fabricator, passionator, enthusiast extraordinaire, curiosity seeker, student of life.

There is lots to be grateful for. Life here in California brings me closer to my love for the good food we grow and the good people we bring together. Enjoying each other in the company of this surrounding city, its life of music, dance, art, and so many cultural access points, truly makes it an act of sharing.

It is our pleasure to make sure you have all of your accommodations, necessities, pleasantries, directions for travel, suggestions for entertainment, and generally any resources and support you need for a comfy, cozy and lovely stay at your home away from home. Please don't ever hesitate to ask for anything you may need. It is our pleasure!

I look forward to being a strong resource for your visit to the life here in the Bay Area. It is our pleasure to best answer and respond to any of your needs during your stay. Please reach out to us at any hour should you need anything at all.

Enjoy this day!

Warmly,

Eva & Ahmed

A serene hideaway in the city

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time staying in Oakland instead of SF and it will definitely not be my last. I have stayed in many guest homes and apartments when visiting California and Hawaii and this has been one of y favorites. The house was everything I needed and more but, the garden was beyond my expectations. I spent most evenings relaxing in the garden while winding down from a long day of touring the Bay Area.

Not only are the house and garden wonderful but, the location couldn't be beat. I only use pubic transport when staying in the Bay Area. The house was a two minute walk to an AC bus line stop which took ten minutes to the McArthur BART station. From there, it was a quick 20 minute ride to the Embarcadero station, Who could ask for more?

Also, being so close to the trendy Piedmont Ave. corridor meant that shopping and restaurants were just a 10 minute walk.

Eva and Ahmed were great hosts. They give you your privacy but, are happy to interact with you when you want. And the neighbor's cat is a great friend! Will definitely stay here again!

Oakland Garden-Artist Haven

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week in this serene, private mother-in-law space with bedroom loft. It was perfect. Tastefully, artfully built and decorated. Definitely a 1 or 2-person space. I'm not an artist but it would be a good artist retreat. A little dark inside because of the mood lighting, but plenty of light and space in the loft and the outside garden. The place is well-located within walking distance of Uptown Oakland, Piedmont Ave, and Grand Ave. I walked and rode a bicycle everywhere. The owners were great. I'd book it again in a heartbeat for a weekend or long stay.
