As far as location, Yosemite's Scenic Wonders Southgate Vacation Rentals really has the best of both worlds, located just 15 minutes to the South Gate Entrance of the incomparable Yosemite National Park, the crown jewel of America's National Park System, and just 10 minutes to Bass Lake, named by Sunset Magazine as one of "The West's Best Lakes"!

Heading to Yosemite for the day?

Within a 15-minute car ride from from our vacation rentals, you’ll arrive at the Yosemite’s South Gate Ranger Station. This is also home to Mariposa Grove, California’s Giant Redwood Trees, the oldest living things in the world. From here you can park at the shuttle bus parking area and catch a short two-mile shuttle ride to the grove. From Mariposa Grove heading further into the Park, you’ll arrive at Wawona Golf course the first regulation golf course in the Sierra Nevada that opened in 1918. If a round of golf isn’t on your agenda for the day, then head on to the incomparable Yosemite Valley, not just a great valley, but a shrine to human foresight, the strength of granite, the power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra, truly one of earths gems. First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

But before you head down to the valley you may want to head up to Glacier Point on Glacier Point Road. At an elevation 7,200 feet at night you feel as though you can touch the stars, an amazing location to see the meteor showers! But during the day Glacier Points breathtaking views of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Nevada and Vernal Falls will be with you in mind and spirit for the rest of your life.

Heading to Bass Lake for the day?

Just a 10 minute car ride in the other direction you’ll find Bass Lake, at an elevation of 3,415 feet, Bass Lake has all types of outdoor activities and amenities. Yosemite may have the Number 1 spot as most popular attractions; but Bass Lake stands firm as one of the most popular vacations spots a tourist can appreciate year round. Fishing, water boarding, camping and hiking are perpetual invitations to join the allure of sparkling waters, beautiful pines and the land's most majestic area's. Off the water, amazing hiking trails offer beautiful views of Bass Lake and the surrounding Sierra National Forest. For those who prefer to remain closer to civilization, there is shopping at the Pines Village and dining at excellent restaurants throughout the area. Bass Lake offers a beach and boat ramp. Popular activities include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, sailing and excellent fishing for bass, trout, bluegill and catfish. Nearby hiking trails include Willow Creek (2.7 miles), Goat Mountain (2.6 miles), Spring Cove (2.6 miles) and Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail (1 mile).
