Overview

About the property

Just picture yourself enjoying a large private sandy beach with shallow water and exploring to see how far out on the lake you can stay in shallow water when you following the sandbars - all the while you get wonderful views of the massive shipping freighters that are making their way from Lake Erie to the Detroit River. Sounds wonderful... doesn't it? You bet it is. And a surprise when you arrive! A bottle of wine from one of the local wineries and a cheese platter ready to welcome you. The cottage is in an exclusive neighbourhood just outside of the lovely, historical town of Amherstburg. In fact, this stretch of beach is the only large surface beach in the town's area. The rest of the coastline is made up of breakwalls or breakwalls with just a tiny beach. The freighters pass along Lake Erie and into the channels that guide them to the Detroit River. They are starting their bend into the river right in front of the cottage. That is why you get such a wonderful view of their passage. You will be dozing off or playing on the beach and the subtle sound of "chug-chug" will catch your attention. Yep - a magnificent freighter going by. It never gets old! The historical town of Amherstburg is just 5 minutes away. There you will find Fort Malden, the ferry to Boblo Island, the Splash Pad, grocery stores, department stores, boutiques, banks, restaurants and pubs. Lots to see and do. The cottage is located very near to the Southwestern Ontario Winery route. Maps and information about the wineries along this route are made available at the cottage for your convenience. Also, Essex County is known for its wonderful produce that is locally grown in its fields or greenhouses. Fresh and easily accessible for you. Birders literally flock to this area. Here you will find some of the best areas for birding. There are two bedrooms in the cottage - one with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. All the mattresses, pillows, bedding, towels are brand new. There is also a new Aero automatic mattress that increases the sleeping capacity to five. The laundry facility has a washer, dryer and laundry tub. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the baking and cooking utensils that you would need, Spices and some essentials are also stocked. Bedding and towels for indoor use are provided. Any blankets or towels for the beach are yours to bring. The cottage has its very own bonfire pit in the yard for your enjoyment. You must be 28 years or older to rent. Pets may be welcome based on breed and prior approval of owner. Check in time is anytime after 3 pm. Check out time is before 10am.

Quiet spot with everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

The owner has thought of all the things someone will need. From a complimentary bottle of wine and cheese plate (was our anniversary), to detailed instructions on everything in the home - the stay was perfect.

Beautiful sunsets and a short (45 minute) drive through wine country to Leamington or Windsor.

Highly recommend!

Great little getaway

  • 5 of 5

Everything was very clean & we had all we needed and then some. We stayed with our 1.5 year old and he loved the beach as well as all the toys available! Beach was very clean. Owners were very welcoming and easy to contact if needed. We look forward to returning. Great spot if you have little children or just as a couple to get away!

Very enjoyable location,

  • 5 of 5

the views are fabulous. Peaceful, quiet surroundings, ultra-relaxation time.

Everything one requires is met, full kitchen, laundry and all. All you need to take are

your clothes everything else is provided.

In the morning it was pleasant to enjoy coffee on the deck, the birds chirping from the

protected area, the cool breezes the waters provide.

The waterfront drive to and from the town is very scenic, especially nearing dusk. The sunsets highlight the beautiful area in all its glory. All in all, if one is after peace and quiet, this is a very desired space.

Relaxing and comfortable location.

  • 4 of 5

The listing description regarding the location, layout and amenities is accurate. However, the pictures don't due the cottage justice. We were pleasantly surprised on the actual size. Unfortunately, the view of the lake from the cottage is not exactly as suggested in the pics because the overall view is blocked by the main house. Although the kitchen is well equipped with basic condiments, teas, sugar and seasonings, etc., should you decide to eat out, we highly recommend The Lord Amherst Public House and Wine Lounge for their courteous, fast service and in particular for their Perch Platter. For breakfast or lunch, we suggest Maria's Restaurant recognized over several decades for serving family style food, friendly service and quite reasonable prices. We also recommend the local Royal Canadian Legion where you are sure to mingle with some long time locals who are awesome, natural ambassadors for the area. We do recommend staying at this cottage and highly commend the owner, Barb for her professionalism and friendly approachability. Sadly our busy schedule did not allow us to meet her in person. However, we did communicate as needed via text messaging. Barb's added personal touch of providing a cheese plate and wine was very welcoming after a long, long travel day. We will consider staying at Barb's cottage on future visits to Amherstburg.
