Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Welcome to your home away from home in one of Vancouver's most pleasant areas: Kitsilano. Known colloquially as "Kits", the neighborhood is named after Squamish chief August Jack Khatsahlano and belonged to the Squamish First Nation until 1946. It is relaxed, safe, friendly and very walkable close to downtown and beaches. Formerly a Greek neighbourhood it has retained much of its European feel, especially on Broadway with great restaurants, cafes and organic food stores. You are also a few blocks from plenty of retail, on Broadway as well as trendy 4th avenue, ranging from outdoor equipment to high end fashion.

Relax with a glass of wine on your patio in our beautiful secluded garden, which has a BBQ for your use. If you have children they can freely play in the safety of a fully fenced and child friendly garden. Enter through the French doors into the well designed living area with its big and comfortable sofa, where you can read a good book or watch a show or movie on the flat screen TV. For cooking there is a brand new kitchen with dishwasher, and restaurant grade gas stove. If you don't feel like cooking, Vancouver also happens to be well-known for its great restaurants. Within a walking distance of a few blocks you have a large selection of restaurants, deli's and neighbourhood bars, or why not take a short busride/drive to downtown or the eccentric Commercial Drive.

The master bedroom with a queen bed is conveniently separated from the 2nd bedroom with two beds. An additional bed is also available in the third bedroom. The new bathroom has a bathtub with shower and large sink. The separate laundry room has a new large washer/dryer.

Many guests appreciate the excellent quality of the amenities provided, such as high quality kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery, pots and pans, basic grocery staples (such as olive oil, tea, sugar), good linens, towels, iron/ironing board, etc.

For those visiting family or friends you are free to bring them over to enjoy a barbeque, knowing there is plenty of room, inside and outdoors, to entertain them and enjoy the beautiful Vancouver summer.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful British Columbia, regardless of where you end up staying. If you have any questions about the apartment or the area, before or during your time here, we are more than willing to provide pointers to help making your stay the best possible.

About Ian Freemantle

We are a professional couple who enjoy our eclectic neighbourhood, walks on the beach, swimming in Kits pool and time in the beautiful outdoors. We enjoy socializing with our adult children, love traveling and visit family in Europe each year.

We have just taken over this beautiful vacation rental that the former owners have been running for almost a decade. Our goal is to continue to deliver the same excellent experience to our guests that the Heart of Kitsilano is known for. We will do our utmost to ensure that you, our guests, feel welcome and fully enjoy your stay with us. The former owner's guest book is full of warm and positive reviews. We have listed a few comments below.

"The garden suite is very well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable."

"This is a great place to stay and a wonderful retreat after enjoying the hustle and bustle that Kitsilano has to offer. We are looking forward to our next visit."

"Travelling into the downtown by bus is straightforward, and driving out of the city is also easy. "

"The property is very thoughtfully equipped, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The garden is pretty, and can be directly accessed from the living room. Highly recommended"

"Can't recommend this place highly enough. It was good value, and we would definitely stay again! "

Why Ian Freemantle chose Vancouver

Kitsilano is close to everything while maintaining a true neighbourhood feel. Guests frequently comment on its proximity to everything and the large number of activities and attractions accessible to them during their stay. There are also great restaurants and theatres close by. It is a walking or cycling city, so a car is not necessary.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location. Relaxed neighbourhood, safe for strolling. Wonderful gardens and coffee shops everywhere. Beautiful beaches within walking distance. Friendly neighbours and lots to do. Our personal favourite is walking the beach early mornings or late at night.

Lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We would recommend staying in Kitsilano when visiting Vancouver. It was great to be out of the city centre, but within easy walking distance (30 minutes stroll along waterfront to False Creek Ferry, beach and enormous outdoor heated swimming pool). Alternatively you could catch the bus into downtown - the stop is only two blocks away. The neighbourhood was friendly, quiet and very pleasant to walk around. The shops are close by, the apartment is very comfortable and the owners are there when you need them. We would be happy to stay here again.

A relaxing base to return to after seeing the sights of Vancouver.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time staying at this beautiful apartment. It was very well located to use public transport and walk to the beaches, parks, sea wall and Granville Island. As a family of four adults and one teenager we found it very comfortable with plenty of space, it was very clean and up to date. The owners were on hand every day if we had any questions, and had been very quick to respond to emails prior to the stay. If we came back to Vancouver we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this rental and highly recommend it!

Everything was as described by the owner, who communicated well throughout the entire process. The unit is clean, well appointed, close to restaurants/shops, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, mini markets and a Whole Foods. For the recycle program, just follow the directions in the binder. The neighborhood feels safe, neighbors are friendly and welcoming.

Go to Granville Island, Scotiabank Cinema downtown, and Vancouver Aquarium for fun experiences. If you have little ones, there's a nearby elementary school with playground equipment to play on after school hours and on the weekend. For transportation, we took a cab from the airport initially, then used the bus or walked. You will need Compass bus cards for the bus. Buy your adult (blue) Compass cards at the airport from the Compass machine in the building just across the path from the main airport (up the escalators). For a child's (orange) Compass card, purchase at a local 24 hour mart just off 4th Avenue near McDonald. It comes pre-loaded, and you can reload it online. Bring your active wear; Vancouver is active, green, and relaxed. Lots of folks walk their dogs on the lush tree-lined streets here. We felt welcomed and so enjoyed the closeness of nearby restaurants and shops.

Try this rental out, you won't be sorry!

Holiday vacation - Easter period 2017 (Submitted June 6th, 2017)

  • 5 of 5

This was our second vacation at this apartment; the first being in 2014 under the previous owners. We were therefore excited to be returning to Vancouver from the U.K. for our seventh visit to this great city and we were really glad to be back in familiar surroundings in Kitsilano.

The apartment had retained all of the comforts we had appreciated on our first visit, with additional improvements having been made in the garden i.e. screening added for privacy which enhanced an already inviting outdoor space. The property had also been freshly painted. Indeed, this home is in pristine condition.

Ian was welcoming on our arrival and responded immediately when we inadvertently knocked off the underfloor heating in the kitchen.

We wasted no time in purchasing Compass cards for our travel needs and the highlight of our stay was our third visit to Vancouver Island via float-plane (a bucket list adventure we will always remember). My husband played golf locally at UBC - so convenient and accessible while I ventured out on solo walks to Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks. We also thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Sea to Sky Gondola at Squamish which we would highly recommend.

On our departure Ian was very accommodating in allowing us to vacate the apartment late afternoon in time for our flight at 6. 40p.m. as the next guests were not expected to arrive until the following evening. This was very much appreciated as we were able to relax, eat lunch at the apartment (cooked food purchased from Whole Foods at W. 4th Ave) and enjoy the serenity of the garden one last time.

We would therefore highly recommend this property and hope to be back in the not-too-distant future, with our extended family, so that they can experience what truly wonderful experiences Vancouver has to offer.
