About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Welcome to your home away from home in one of Vancouver's most pleasant areas: Kitsilano. Known colloquially as "Kits", the neighborhood is named after Squamish chief August Jack Khatsahlano and belonged to the Squamish First Nation until 1946. It is relaxed, safe, friendly and very walkable close to downtown and beaches. Formerly a Greek neighbourhood it has retained much of its European feel, especially on Broadway with great restaurants, cafes and organic food stores. You are also a few blocks from plenty of retail, on Broadway as well as trendy 4th avenue, ranging from outdoor equipment to high end fashion.

Relax with a glass of wine on your patio in our beautiful secluded garden, which has a BBQ for your use. If you have children they can freely play in the safety of a fully fenced and child friendly garden. Enter through the French doors into the well designed living area with its big and comfortable sofa, where you can read a good book or watch a show or movie on the flat screen TV. For cooking there is a brand new kitchen with dishwasher, and restaurant grade gas stove. If you don't feel like cooking, Vancouver also happens to be well-known for its great restaurants. Within a walking distance of a few blocks you have a large selection of restaurants, deli's and neighbourhood bars, or why not take a short busride/drive to downtown or the eccentric Commercial Drive.

The master bedroom with a queen bed is conveniently separated from the 2nd bedroom with two beds. An additional bed is also available in the third bedroom. The new bathroom has a bathtub with shower and large sink. The separate laundry room has a new large washer/dryer.

Many guests appreciate the excellent quality of the amenities provided, such as high quality kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery, pots and pans, basic grocery staples (such as olive oil, tea, sugar), good linens, towels, iron/ironing board, etc.

For those visiting family or friends you are free to bring them over to enjoy a barbeque, knowing there is plenty of room, inside and outdoors, to entertain them and enjoy the beautiful Vancouver summer.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful British Columbia, regardless of where you end up staying. If you have any questions about the apartment or the area, before or during your time here, we are more than willing to provide pointers to help making your stay the best possible. Being the new owners of this lovely house, listed here by the previous owners with a full five-star rating, we are excited about having you over.

About Ian Freemantle

We are a professional couple who enjoy our eclectic neighbourhood, walks on the beach, swimming in Kits pool and time in the beautiful outdoors. We enjoy socializing with our adult children, love traveling and visit family in Europe each year.

We have just taken over this beautiful vacation rental that the former owners have been running for almost a decade. Our goal is to continue to deliver the same excellent experience to our guests that the Heart of Kitsilano is known for. We will do our utmost to ensure that you, our guests, feel welcome and fully enjoy your stay with us. The former owner's guest book is full of warm and positive reviews. We have listed a few comments below.

"The garden suite is very well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable."

"This is a great place to stay and a wonderful retreat after enjoying the hustle and bustle that Kitsilano has to offer. We are looking forward to our next visit."

"Travelling into the downtown by bus is straightforward, and driving out of the city is also easy. "

"The property is very thoughtfully equipped, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The garden is pretty, and can be directly accessed from the living room. Highly recommended"

"Can't recommend this place highly enough. It was good value, and we would definitely stay again! "

Why Ian Freemantle chose West Side

Kitsilano is close to everything while maintaining a true neighbourhood feel. Guests frequently comment on its proximity to everything and the large number of activities and attractions accessible to them during their stay. There are also great restaurants and theatres close by. It is a walking or cycling city, so a car is not necessary.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location. Relaxed neighbourhood, safe for strolling. Wonderful gardens and coffee shops everywhere. Beautiful beaches within walking distance. Friendly neighbours and lots to do. Our personal favourite is walking the beach early mornings or late at night.

A good home away from for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family has just returned from our holiday in Vancouver staying in this lovely home over the Christmas 2016. We are a family of 4 with two grown up boys, and have found Ian's place perfect for us for our stay. Ian's home is spacious, and provides everything we needed for our stay - from the bedrooms to kitchens. The kitchen is fully stocked and although we love to cook but we didn't cook too many meals as there are plently to eat in Vancouver, all within a short walking or driving distance.

Ian's home is close to the public transport although we did have a car which made us even more convenienct. Parking on the street in front of the house was not a problem at all, and in fact we parked at more or less the same spot every night!

There are bicyces in Ian's home for the guests to use but we didn't try them as the weather was a bit cold and wet for us, but we can tell that the bikes are of good quality, and they will come with helmets.

Ian was very friendly and responsive during the process of the rental although it was a pity that we didn't get a chance to meet up while we were there.

We highly remommend Ian's home to our fellow travellers. We are sure that you will enjoy staying there, either in the summer of winter.

Owner's Response: Hi Paul, Thanks for the great review! We are happy that you enjoyed our place and sorry that we did not get to meet your family since we were out of the country over Christmas. We trust that our friend Danijela took good care of you. We should point out that the bikes actually belong to us and our other tenant and are not for use by guests. However Vancouver has the Mobi bike rental system and we would be happy to tell future guests about it. Take care, Ian

We enjoyed a lovely three week stay at this very clean and comfortable home. Very conveniently located within walking distance of both beautiful beaches and urban avenues offering lovely unique shops and great restaurants. This is a wonderful neighbourhood for walking with public transportation very close by. The owners were very friendly and accessible. Highly recommend!

Excellent appartment in nice location

  • 4 of 5

As a family of five (three children including two teenagers) we spend five days in Ian's appartment in Kitsilano. We have had an excellent time, the appartment served our needs very well (nice interior, all practical things at hands). Coming from Germany we were not familiar with local aspects of life such as groceries, restaurants and transportation. Ian was very helpful (and the travel books in the appt. were also useful). Kitsilano is a great place to stay, with easy access to the beach and great restaurants. We definitely recommend the appt.

great visit to Kitsalano for family of 5

  • 4 of 5

Ian was very easy to work with and provide details as needed. Our family of 5 (kids ages 6,11,13) had plenty of space in the unit. It was nice to have access to the outdoor area as well. Great neighborhood- walkable for grocery, meals. Note that the laundry is shared however we never had a problem and used it as needed.

Incredibly family friendly; great location for biking

  • 5 of 5

We spent our summer vacation at this property and had an incredible time! Ian and Gunilla were excellent hosts and gave us a ton of great advice about seeing the city.

Our family of 4 included our two kids, ages 4 and 6, and this house worked great for us all. The house was nice and quiet for sleeping, and the neighborhood had a real family feel, with at least 5 Free Little Libraries within about 5 blocks. The kitchen is not large but was just right for cooking some small meals and eating a quick breakfast before we headed out the door in the morning. The entertainment center has some great kids movies and music that we used when we were trying to pack up on the last day. I believe there was also a high chair and pack-and-play we could have used if our kids were younger.

If you bring bikes like we did, you will be thrilled with this house! The neighborhood is situated right near a main cycleway that allows you to safely and easily get to any part of the city. We hardly used our car at all the entire time, which we loved. Ian has built a nice bike lock-up right on the front patio of the house, and we felt very comfortable locking our bikes up there.

The only thing we wish we'd known was that the third bedroom (the one with no windows) did not have a regular door. The room is closed off with what I'd consider closet-style doors, which did not make the room very sound- or light-proof. However, we were easily able to work around this and absolutely loved our stay.

I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you for such a great stay!

Lovely apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five stayed for a week in this apartment and it was perfect for our needs. The apartment is on a quiet residential street but close to shops and busses on West Broadway and West 4th Street. we enjoyed the outside patio and Ian's friendly welcome.

Top tip: You don't need a car in Vancouver.Gget a compass card for the public transport and then you can hop on and off buses, sky train and water taxis at reduced fares and without having ti find the exact change in coins. The buses to the city centre run every few minutes. At the end of your trip, return the cards and claim a refund of your deposit and any outstanding amount on the card.
