About Property Manager/Owner
Our family lives just outside of Orlando which is approximately 1.5 hours from Crystal River. We currently have three vacation rental locations in Crystal River with this location being our first private home. We are all Florida natives; Pete grew up in Inverness which is the town next to our vacation home and why we chose Crystal River. We like the laid back sleepy little town feel and fell in love with the areas springs, specifically Three Sisters. What started as a weekend get a way has turned into a wonderful place we are happy to share. We chose Crystal River because I grew up close to the springs and remember swimming in them as a kid. I enjoyed frequent field trips and summer camps to see the manatees and swim in the springs. My first scuba trip was in King Springs, around the corner from our place. We hope you enjoy the area as much as we have.... Crystal River is a quiet little town with plenty to offer. The springs are beautiful and Kings Springs is less than a 10 minute paddle from our dock. On any given morning you can see manatees and dolphin swim in the natural spring near our boathouse. From our back yard, you can boat or paddle to waterfront restaurants and enjoy the nature preserve in Kings Bay. A 7 mile scenic boat ride takes you to the Gulf of Mexico where there is fantastic fishing, nature viewing and in the summer, scallop harvesting. You will enjoy near by Homosassa Wildlife Park and Indian burial grounds which leave a lot to explore. Golf courses, bike/hiking trails close will allow for an active vacation if desired.

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Crystal River
We really liked this home in particular because there is nature in front of us and nature behind us (including a natural spring). We also loved the layout of the house with a private master suite on the 3rd level which includes a private bathroom, large walk in shower and private balcony. The middle level offers a large screened in porch a step away from the kitchen for easy morning coffee or dinner outside. We like being on the water and close to nature with the luxuries of town close by which made this home the ideal place....

Manatees at your doorstep!
The three grandchildren loved the downstairs room with the bunkbeds and queen size bed. The grandparents love the upstairs room with the bathroom with a shower with a window toward the water, and the parents loveed the separate two queen bed rooms, because they were sick. So we were close when we wanted to be, and separate when we needed to be. My wife and I would have spent the entire week sitting on the back porch looking at nature the total lack of humanity. After we came back from our organized snorkel trip to see manatees, the grandchildren named the manatee in the canal behind the house “Sandy”. They figured that would apply to either sex. We had fun with the kayaks. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable. My grandson said on the first night that was the best sleep he’d ever had in his life. He’s eight years old. The kids asked if we could come back next year. Pete’s “Best of Crystal River”, was helpful in finding restaurants and dive company. He was also quick to respond to questions, and to address what small hiccups we ran into. I’m 71 years old, and this was one of the best value vacations I’ve ever had.
It is nice to get a review like this, three generations enjoying our home and Crystal River area....thanks for sharing your experience and we look forward to your next visit!
Comfortable Nature Retreat
We are 2 seniors who enjoyed the screened porch views of the canal and "lagoon" right in our back yard. A variety of wildlife was observed including; manatee, small alligator, river otter, turtles, jumping mullet, song birds, water birds and even heard barred owls at night! The porch is a very peaceful place to sit and enjoy the views and sounds of nature. Kayaks are available however, we found it a challenge (or an adventure) getting in and out of the kayaks due to the usually low water level at the boat dock. Colder than normal January weather limited our outdoor time and we can only imagine how much more enjoyable the porch areas and kayaking could be with warmer temps and drier conditions.
We found the top floor master bedroom and bath very spacious and comfortable with a large walk in closet. A large built in dresser with a nice flat screen TV conmpleted the quality master.
On the main level, the TV/living room with many recliners was a relaxing place to watch basic Direct TV on the vintage "lamp" TV. Mike, from property matinence, commented a new TV will be coming as "lamp needs replacement" message greeted us everytime the TV was turned on. A large well stocked kitchen made for easy meal preparation. Refrigerator issues are being addressed as we regularly dealt with monitoring the refrigerator's fluctuationg temperatures and a leak in the water line to the ice/water dispencer. The owner, Pete, was very quick to respond to any concerns and has an excellent communication network. He also provided great suggestions for day trips, restaurants and is very knowledgeable of the Crystal River area.
Also on the main floor are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as access to the screened porch. On the lower level we used the laundry room, with very reliable washer and dryer, and the garage. Having rented homes over the last 5 years, we've learned to bring our own bed pillows, bath towels and hangers. We made use of them here. After cleaning the grill from previous renters, we chose not to use it in its rusted condition.
We really enjoyed this property and the Crystal River area. Its location offers close access to a number of opportunities to experience nature such as, 3 Sisters Springs, Homosassa Springs and Fort Island Beach. Several good restaurants are nearby as well.
4 1/2 stars wasn't a rating option so we rated it 5 stars, due to the owner's easy accessibility and quick, excellent communication. Thanks Pete for a memorable stay.
thanks for the 5 star rating....Pete
A very nice stay.
We enjoyed the porch and the deck area in the back. We covered the cushions with a blanket since they are a bit moldy (as another reviewer noted) but the screened deck is the selling feature of the home! We loved listening to the fish jump in the dark, we saw a manatee go into the spring across the canal, and enjoyed the eagle, osprey and piliated woodpecker! Bring your binoculars! Kayaking was amazing and we saw many manatees out in Kings Bay!
Several came up at our kayaks! We wished there was an "official" way to get in and out of the canal at the house because it was hard getting in and out of kayaks especially when the tide was low using the bank & rocks (but we are old! :) The house is in a great location and we enjoyed walking our dog over the bridge and along the canal. The neighbors all along the street were quite friendly.
We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and had a chance to visit our little slice of paradise. The location is ideal for anyone that wants to experience nature up close from the comfort of the back porch. As noted, the porch furniture is "outdoor furniture" with cloth cushions (chosen for comfort) and does get damp and discolored on occasions (we made the mistake of buying light colored cushions). We hope you enjoy the comfort of the furniture and the view porch offers.....Pete
This place was in a perfect location. We kayaked with the manatees and dolphins!! We swam with the manatees, relaxed on the beach. The porch was amazing and the house was very spacious. We really enjoyed our stay
So Glad to hear you enjoyed the house and what the area has to offer....this is a great time of yer to visit Crystal River to see the manatees and resident dolphins (we often see them in our canal/springs)....let us know when you plan to visit again....Pete
Great place for family
The house had plenty of room and it was comfortable Convienent to everything. We loved kayaking in the canal. My son fished everyday. We went on a fishing and scalloping trip that was fantastic! The only request is please get ESPN so we can catch all the football games😉 would recommend and stay again
Glad you enjoyed the home and its location....yes fishing off the dock is a bonus! We are addressing the ESPN issue, Direct TV changed our package and we were not aware that several channels were left out....we are requesting they change it back. Pete
Great Trip But House Was Not What I Expected
As stated the trip overall was awesome. I would definitely recommend Crystal River to anyone with a family that enjoys the outdoors. The house was located in a great spot, fairly easy to access the river and all of the surrounding visitor sites but it was not the house we saw in the advertised pics.
The pics make the deck/patio/dock look like new and clean but it was far from that. All of the wood deck was molded, dirty, rotting and loose. Worst of all was that one section of the 2nd floor deck was sectioned off with caution taped. To a house full of adults maybe not a big deal but we have four children all below the ages of 10 so it was on our mind all weekend. To be clear, when I say sectioned off I mean with two rows of yellow caution tape. If I could upload the pics to this review I would. Not boarded off or anything structural to keep people out. Needless to say we were disappointed because I knew the manager knew we had kids as well as their ages and there was no mention of this prior to our arrival. My last communication with the owner was two days before our arrival. After walking the rest of the property we realized that the inside of the house was neglected as much as the outside. I get that its a 2nd/rental home but the place was seriously neglected. I went back and reviewed the reviews to make sure I did not miss anything and honestly I was very surprised at all of the 5 star reviews.
Regarding water access, if you can't get your boat under a very low bridge (maybe 7-8 ft from water) then the channel to the east is your only way in. That channel can get a little shallow at low tide so I don't suggest it to anyone with a boat that drafts more than 14 inches (what my boat drafts). Shallow areas (1 to 2 ft showing on my depth sounder) are solid rock so you need to take it slow the first time.
On a positive note, the house was not why we were there so overall the trip was amazing. The time we spent at the house was only to shower, have dinner and sleep so I can't complain about the house too much. House positives: The location is perfect, the house has tons of space for a large family or group and operationally we had no issues with appliances, plumbing or electrical. That's all a big plus to a Dad so I give it a two star.
we are certainly disappointed when we receive a 2 star rating, to address his comments...we have had a wet summer which has caused some recently discovered soft areas on the outside patio decking (it was reported just before this families arrival). there is a section we believe could be a hazard for a step thru so we put up some cation tape and have requested that our guests not use that area of the deck until we can get it replaced, the main deck is still usable. we have a contractor scheduled for a complete deck replacement this fall when we have enough open days to complete the work. during scallop season the house has not had any open days and typically just a few hours between departures and arrivals, we do not want to cancel someones reservation/vacation to complete a large project. not sure what other issues this guest had, we do routine maintenance and keep the home as clean and operational as possible (in fairness to this guests comments, we have not had an open night all summer so if there are issues with the home, it have not been reported). we employ a local maintenance man we can schedule to address any issues, again we are sensitive to guests vacation time and do not disturb them unless necessary.
To address water access comments, there is absolutely a way to access the river/Gulf WITHOUT going under a bridge. at low tide in the summer, the channel is 3 feet or more (if he found rocks, he was not in the channel). we send a map with each welcome letter that shows the route. we are glad to hear you had a nice time in Crystal River, and thanks for the positive comments at the end of your review even thought we do not agree with the two stars because of soft spots in our deck. we hope you read the rest of the reviews on this property....Pete
