About Desra McDonald

A recent empty nest couple from Arizona with a thirst for adventure yearned for somewhere they could get back to nature, as a retreat from their busy professions, with visions dancing in their heads of bring their family together for hikes and holidays….. when their long time Colorado friends called about partnering on owning a real log cabin (already renovated for full time living) , next to Rocky Mountain Wilderness…. WOW, they were intrigued but once they saw this log cabin home in the mountains above Estes Park with the cascading creek flowing out back, they were enchanted and are now living happily ever after as partners sharing this dream with families & friends from all parts of the world.

Desra McDonald purchased this cabin in 2015

Awesome stay at Cascading Creek Log Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family had such a great time at Cascading Creek. The cabin was perfect. We were traveling with our two boys, ages 11 and 13 and my wife's father. Everyone enjoyed it! The cabin was bigger than I was expecting and there was plenty of room for people to do their own thing if they wanted. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the little things that you might have forgotten. The back yard and the creek was a great little respite from our hikes in the national park, perfect for hanging out at the end of the day. The park was just a short drive away, less than 10 minutes. There isn't much nearby, which is what we were looking for, but we did have take out pizza one night from a small pizza and cafe down the street that was great for a night we didn't want to cook. Also loved the collection of classic DVDs. Desra was great to work with - no problems of any kind and everything was just as expected. Would definitely recommend this cabin for a family or anyone looking to stay in a secluded spot near Rocky Mountain National Park. We had a great time.

The Cabin and Town that exceeded every expectation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 had an excellent week in Cascading Creek Cabin. It is difficult to express all the great things about this cabin that made our family vacation exceptional. We especially loved all the personal touches around with modern conveniences but still being in a real cabin. Our entire family enjoyed the time we spent behind the cabin by the creek. Between the Hammock reading (napping), playing games on the picnic table or playing in the creek we enjoyed being outside. Inside we cooked some great meals in the well supplied kitchen, spent time playing board games and had some wonderful family movie nights.

We found Allenspark to be perfect! We ate at Rock Creek Tavern and Pizza one night and it was wonderful. We had breakfast at Meadow Mountain Cafe which was so good! The people around town were so friendly and helpful.

Jack and Desra were so helpful from the very start. I messaged Desra multiple times with questions and she also was so patient answering all of them. She was very organized on the business side of things. Jack helped us get settled when we arrived. He was so helpful explaining everything and made us feel so welcoming. They were the perfect hosts.

I would recommend Cascading Creek again and again. Every expectation that we had about the cabin and Allenspark was met and then some!

We Loved This Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at Cascading Creek Cabin. The reservation process was very easy and Desra was very responsive. Desra met us when we arrived and was very pleasant and provided us with information about the cabin and the area. The fresh baked cookies were a wonderful bonus. The cabin has a very homey feel and the décor fit the area well. After long days in the RMNP or other site seeing, we enjoyed the variety of movies, games and panning for gold in the creek. We could not have asked for a better cabin that was away Estes Park, but close enough to be there in less than 30 mins. Allenspark does have a couple of great places to eat, breakfast at the Mtn. Meadow Café and Tavern Pizza, which were both just down the street. We would definitely recommend this cabin and the hosts. We are already thinking of planning our trip back next summer.

Very clean and cozy things went without a hitch. Jack and Desra couldn't have been more helpful. The little cabin touches with decor and cozy blankets and pillows were wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend this cabin and the hosts. Don't hesitate to book there.

Beautiful cabin on soothing creek

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 adults really enjoyed our time at Cascading Creek Log Cabin. The cabin is beautiful and clean. The original part of the cabin is very well preserved, and the addition of a kitchen and family room make the cabin comfortable to live in. We enjoyed picnicing by, sitting by, and laying in the hamock by the creek. In addition the creek is pleasant to wake up to. We really enjoyed the our time at Cascading Creel Log Cabin.

Cascading Creek cabin was a wonderful place to stay! It has a small stream/creek out behind the cabin with a hammock beside that is a wonderful place to relax!! The cabin is so relaxing & the windows in the den allow you to see the wildlife out back. This cabin is away from the hustle & bustle of the city, but close to Estes Park & many hiking trails & sight seeing activities! I highly recommend Cascading Creek cabins.
