Like a home away from home. Cooked meals here. Went to the beach next to cottage several times. Nice neighbors. Absolutely would recommend to anyone.

Nice Cottage in Beach Neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for 10 days in late October. We live on the Big Island, and had to travel to Oahu for a surgery. We have lived on Oahu before, and are familiar with the island.

The cottage had what we needed for our circumstances: a kitchen suitable for cooking (we weren't going to be able to eat out), air conditioning, nearby shopping for groceries and pharmacy, and a reasonable commuting time to Queen's hospital in Honolulu (about a 50 minute drive with light traffic). The owner generously accommodated an additional, special requirement of ours.

We also selected the cottage because of proximity to a beach, and its potential contribution to morale. Ewa's beach is a minute's walk from the cottage. It is good sand and easy to get into the water. There is a public park a stone's throw from the house, and that brings additional beach-goers; but the traffic is very light compared to other places on Oahu, like Kailua.

The cottage is in a very dense neighborhood, with properties on tiny lots, where you can almost pass sugar to your neighbor through the kitchen windows. This is typical of neighborhoods on Oahu, but may be new to a Mainland visitor coming from a place with distance between houses. If you are looking for privacy -- the kind where you can't hear or see the neighbors -- this is not the place for you.

Because the cottage is in a tight neighborhood, and there is a next-door park with family get-together's on the weekends (often with loud music), it is not quiet during the day. There is also a military rifle range nearby (Puuloa Range), which sounds like fire-crackers when shooting occurs (I trained there as a young Marine in the mid-1980's), and gives you the bugle calls of "reveille" at 8am and "taps" at sunset. But the noise is not intolerable, and at night things go pretty quiet.

The house itself is well done, given it's size. The kitchen is good for cooking (which we do at home, too), and the bathroom is nicely done. There are two very small bedrooms with full-sized beds; we wished the floor-plan had combined them into one with a king or queen-sized bed, but the division will make sense for two close-knit couples or a small family.

Overall, we appreciated the cottage, and very much appreciated the owner's willingness to accommodate our unique needs.

Could not have asked for a better place

  • 5 of 5

This trip to Honolulu was a very special one for me. I was there to visit my great nephew who was born just 8 months ago. Knowing the island and its traffic, I wanted to be closer to my family in the Ewa Beach area vs staying on Waikiki and having to drive for an hour every day, each way. This wonderful cottage could not have been better. It was less than 10 minutes away from the family which was great. The owner was prompt in responding to inquiries and extremely helpful. The cottage was not only comfortable, it had everything we could need, including board games, wide-screen TV, a nice patio area with a grill, full kitchen. But, what really impressed me was the fact that she thought of everything. When I looked in the shed for the gas for the grill, I noticed that there was beach equipment like floaties and noodles for the kids. It even a baby stroller! It's like she knew why I was there. Thank you so much for making this trip a special one. You will be highly recommended.

PS-The beach was 100 feet away!!

Clean, up-to-date, has everything you need

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, friendly neighborhood - plenty of kids playing on very private street. Felt safe. Away from frantic tourists. Laid back relaxation. Go to the beach morning, noon, night - anytime for however long you want - a walk, a view, a sun tan, etc. No beach, there's a public park next door. Our grand nieces really enjoyed it. Easy access to get to all of the island activities without wading through Waikiki hassles. Local stores very near by - convenient. Forget something, you'll probably find it this unit - hair dryer, iron, toaster, beach towels, beach toys, even a gas grill. We have already recommended this place to our friends.

Cute little Cottage with gorgeous beach

  • 4 of 5

Stayed 5 nights at this little cottage. 4 adults. The cottage was very nice. Clean. Air conditioning. Ceiling fan in main room. Updated. Everything we needed. Along side the small road, so you walk out and you can see the ocean from in front of the cottage. Maybe around 100'. Playground right there for kids. Picnic tables. Outside showers. Sunrise over Diamond Head area. Beautiful. Sunset the other direction. Nice sand and beach. We found many stores about a mile away and a Post Office behind that plaza. About another mile or so is more stores and eating places. All pretty close. I chose this area for being less busy and for the Sunsets/Sunrises. Drives to Diamond Head area was about 35 minutes. To the Bay for snorkeling was a little under an hour. Pretty drive. Pearl Harbor was very close, to the Park itself was about 20 minutes.

The cottage was all we needed for 4 adults. Odd thing was the one bedroom has no door. At the end of the hallway next to the bathroom are the two bedrooms. You walk right into the one without a door and the other one is there with a door (just inside the first room). Have to figure out who gets privacy. Air conditioning in the room with the door.

We were comfortable with the space in this cottage. Could use a blind on the front door. People can look right into the cottage from outside at night. You can see all the way through. Need some blinds on the front door. The cottage was easy to find after we actually found the small road. If you are coming, look for a Blue Wall with "waves" on it. The road will be the second one past on the right. Stone made wall on the corner with "EWA" in big white letters.

The worst thing was the Roosters. First one I heard was at 5 am. They really never quit all day and night. There were 2 different ones making noise our entire stay. We got past that, but they were annoying. There was a grill in the small shed and a couple boogie boards. No kayaks or Water Boards. A few beach chairs also. Nice cottage and great beach.
