About the property

1140 Square Foot Condo with direct Gulf Views from Living Room & Master Bedroom

We are the owners (and not a rental company) of this fourth floor condo in Emerald Isle Beach Club. The Emerald Isle Complex is directly on the Gulf—no road to cross to get to the beach. Our condo faces the Gulf directly and is only steps from a large beachside swimming pool, private boardwalk to the sand and surf, picnic patio with charcoal grills, tennis court, and the gorgeous white sugar-sand beach of the Emerald Coast.

The entire Emerald Isle complex underwent a year-long major renovation in 2016 with all new doors, windows, paint, elevators and amenities that include laundry rooms that accept Credit Cards. In addition, we have made major upgrades to our unit that include new living room furniture, flat-screen digital TVs in living room and both bedrooms, new cable channels, ceiling fans in living room and both bedrooms, a remodeled kitchen, remodeled master bath with walk-in tiled shower, and new vanities in both bathrooms.

Emerald Isle, with just 70 units, is family friendly as well as welcoming to snowbirds. Our unit says "beach vacation" the minute you step in. This all tiled condo has high speed internet, king bed in master bedroom, queen bed in 2nd BR; LR includes 50" flat screen wall-mounted TV plus VCR/DVD player. The comfortable sofa opens to make a queen bed. Our kitchen is fully furnished. Beach service (large umbrella and 2 chairs) is included with the unit and is set up for you on the beach each day.

Sliding doors from the living room and master bedroom provide access to the balcony that overlooks the Gulf. A small patio table and chairs plus a chaise lounge provide a relaxing spot to spend some leisure time.

Several golf courses are located within a 20 mile radius and great restaurants are close by on Okaloosa Island. Charter boats for deep sea fishing are 5 minutes from the condo. Downtown Fort Walton Beach and a shopping mall are only 10 minutes away, Publix Grocery is 3-1/2 miles from the condo, and a Tom Thumb convenience store is within walking distance.

EC Rider, the Okaloosa Island Transit Service has a bus stop (Route 20 - Stop 18 - Sailfish Drive) right in front of Emerald Isle Condos on Santa Rosa Blvd. Buses run Monday through Friday 7:30am - 6:30pm Memorial Day - Labor Day, arriving at each stop every 20 minutes. Winter schedules are slightly different.

About D. L. Kaltreider

My husband and I are retired educators and Pennsylvania natives who lived on a farm in Central PA for 30 years. In 2008 we moved to California to be close to our family (including our 2 grandsons). When they moved to Tennessee in 2013 we followed. We discovered the proximity and beauty of the Gulf Coast in 2014 and fell in love with the white sand and clear emerald waters of the Gulf. We became the owners of this condo in July 2015 and are excited to share it with others.

D. L. Kaltreider purchased this condo in 2015

Why D. L. Kaltreider chose Fort Walton Beach

We LOVE Okaloosa Island and Fort Walton Beach; they're less crowded than both Pensacola Beach (about an hour West) and Destin (just 8 miles East.) OI and FWB are family-oriented, with lots of activities. It's a reasonably short distance to/from our home in TN. When we found Emerald Isle, we felt that it would be just right for us: not too big, plenty of comfortable amenities, but without the impersonal "resort" feel of some of the larger complexes. We love the idea of having a little "piece of the beach" for our family to enjoy as our grandchildren grow up.

What makes this condo unique

Okaloosa Island is an unincorporated community on Santa Rosa Island, Okaloosa County, Florida. The island community uses Fort Walton Beach as a mailing address but is not actually part of that city. It is part of Florida's Emerald Coast and features spectacular sugar-white sand beaches.

The Island is bordered on the north by the Santa Rosa Sound Narrows (plus the cities of Fort Walton Beach & Mary Esther.) Choctawhatchee Bay & the city of Destin are our immediate neighbors to the Northeast & East. Our big beautiful "neighbors" to the south are the pristine white sand beaches and emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Enjoy water sports of all sorts in the area: swimming, boogie boarding, parasailing, snorkeling, & charter boat trips.

The 1262 ft long Okaloosa Island fishing pier is two miles “down the street” from the condo. The pier includes a shade structure, bait & tackle shop, pole rentals & restrooms. Since the pier has a commercial fishing license, you DO NOT need to buy a separate Florida fishing license to fish from it . You do have to pay a small fee as a part of admission if you want to fish. Rods, reels, and bait also are available.

NOTE: You DO need a current Florida license (visitor/shoreline 3-day, 7-day, or annual pass) IN ORDER TO FISH OTHER PLACES - surf, sound, or freshwater. Visitors' licenses are available online or at local sporting good stores, bait shops, Walmart, & more.

Gulf Coast life is enjoyable year round. There are activities & adventures, festivals & fun every season of the year.

A Tom Thumb convenience store is only a 5 minute walk east on Santa Rosa Blvd. Open 6 am - 11 pm, it has lots of essentials like snacks, milk, bread, eggs, soft drinks, sandwiches, beer, frozen foods, fresh brewed coffee, fresh fruit, fishing tackle & bait, bulk ice, beach supplies, sundries, plus an ATM. Need more? Publix Grocery is just 2 1/2 miles across the Brooks Bridge. Downtown Fort Walton Beach has numerous shops, & restaurants.

My husband and I are both educators and we were looking for the perfect place for a relaxing break. This place was so warm with beautiful decor and detail. The owners were so friendly and attentive to all our needs. The condo met all our expectations and beyond. It was equipped with ALL the necessities of a wonderful vacation even beach chairs were provided. The view was beautiful. We could see porpoises swimming from our balcony. We ate at Dewey’s and McGuires Pub. Both places were phenomenal. The condo had a guide of all the wonderful places to eat and choices of entertainment. Of course if we didn’t want to go out, we had all the amenities to just cook a nice meal and stay in and watch a movie which the owners provided (nice selection) . I would recommend this nice homey condo for any family looking for an awesome vacation . We will definitely stay provided it’s available and not booked by someone who finds it first. SO blessed! Great find!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. We are always delighted when someone who stayed in our condo indicates that they plan to return. We are beginning to build up a group of Emerald Isle Renters who are returning after a first visit. That makes us happy as we figure those folks view 410 as their home away from home on the Gulf Coast. There is no better feeling for a condo owner than that. Best, Lynne

Outstanding return visit!

  • 5 of 5

The complex looks a lot better than last year since the renovation is complete. Love the renovated laundry much better!! It is brighter, there is an area for sorting and folding, and the appliances are new. The unit has even undergone some upgrades which are wonderful! We had a great stay again this year. The beach service was a great addition. We used that and some of the toys and rafts. We thoroughly enjoy the unit as it is very welcoming and comfortable. We use all of the space very well with a teenage son and daughter. The view from the balcony is lovely. It is also a great place to take an afternoon nap. The complex was a lot busier this year than last year, as was the beach as a whole. Morning walks were absolutely wonderful! Late evening walks and crab hunting was fun and entertaining for all of us. Thank you for a wonderful stay again this year. Hopefully we will be able to return again next year!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the review. Condo owners welcome reviews from return renters because that definitely sends a positive message to folks "shopping" for a condo. We hope to welcome you again next summer as one of our "Emerald Isle families." Lynne

Wow! This summer's visit was even better than last year!

  • 5 of 5

Renovations on the building are complete. The color scheme is beautiful and the floor laundry room is sooo much nicer than last year with new washers and dryers and a nice area to fold or sort your laundry. It was also a lot brighter. The trash chute area was also brighter. Although there were a lot more people staying this year, it was very quiet in our condo. The beach was very busy. It was great having the chairs and umbrella this year. The beach items provided by the owners were nice. The unit has had some updates since last year also and they are very commendable. The owners are continuing to renovate the condo. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bathrooms were well stocked with towels. The sheets for the pullout sofa were easily located. We had a wonderful time, even when it rained all day. The views are amazing. The fireworks were a hit again this year! We hope to return again!

Didn't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

The Kaltreiders really made us feel at home in their unit. We traveled to Florida for our daughter's softball tournament. The location of the unit was perfect. A few steps from the beach and without all the stand still traffic. The unit was very clean and spacious. The unit was fully furnished with everything we needed to make meals throughout the week. There was even floats, beach chairs and sand toys! A plus was that beach service was included with the condo. We were able to swim out a short distance and find numerous sand dollars and even a star fish. Within a few minutes drive we were able to rent a pontoon boat and head to crab island for the day.

We would defintely stay again if we travel back to the area!

Owner's Response: Hi Gina. So glad you and your family enjoyed staying in our condo last week. We agree that the location is good--close enough to the many offerings of Destin when you want that excitement but quiet and family-focused when you just want to relax. Glad you found some beach treasures to take home. We hope you will have a reason to return to the area in the future; we would love to have you back. Lynne

Enjoy the white sugar sand beach a few steps from your condo. Visit the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, the Boardwalk, and the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier only six minutes away by car. Discover the Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base less than 9 miles away. Or explore downtown Fort Walton Beach and the Indian Temple Mound Museum built by the Pensacola Culture circa 850 CE.

Enjoy seafood? Try one of the dozens of great restaurants serving fresh-caught, local fish, crabs, and other shellfish right down the street or in nearby Destin. Click on our Hospitality Tab to see some of our recommendations.

Looking for trees, small parks and places to relax in addition to the beach? Try one of several local parks: "Liza Jackson Park" - across the Narrows and just West of downtown FWB, or "Fort Walton Beach Landing" (Brooks Street), or "Marler Park on Choctawhatchee Bay" (just 6 minutes from the condo), or Clement Taylor Park on the east side of the Destin Bridge. Many of these parks are shaded by live oaks and pines. Plus, there are picnic pavilions and places for the kids to romp and play.
