Affordable Rustic Apartment Walk to Ferry and Town

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 2 adults

Rustic two-story 1850s farmhouse-style attached apartment converted from a former lobsterman's workshop. Wide plank (some squeaky) floors throughout, narrow steep stairway, ideal for those looking for authentic Maine island charm. Old-fashioned glider out front gets morning sun exposure. One double bed or two twin beds. Beds are very comfortable, great location for walking to Main Street and ferry. Near water but no views from house. Good neighborhood for walking, great harbor views from nearby Blueberry Lane overlook. Walk to breathtaking Lane's Island Preserve and bike rentals in town. This is not a good choice for people who are expecting a modern "fancy" place. There aren't electric outlets and switches on every wall in every room for instance, but there are plenty of lamps, books, games and the kitchen is well-stocked including lobster pot, coffee maker, and toaster. The owners might be in the connected house while you are here but we are a quiet older couple and there is no open access between spaces. No pets allowed. There is wi-fi, reception best on first floor, but no landline phone or TV. AT&T has cell towers on the island and is best for cell service. Maximum occupancy is two adults.

Starr Street Rental

  • 4 of 5

Our rental on Starr Street was comfiortable and economically decorated. There were many interesting pictures, games, puzzles and books to compensate for television or radio. There was wifi, but a landline would have helped us contact friends and family. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Caleb and his spouse did a wonderful job decorating the cottage. The amenities were abundant.

Great location, convenient to restaurants sightseeing. Best lobster-roll ever. Ferry ride was smooth with lots to see.

Thank you for a great stay.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

My three days at this location was very comfortable.

It is a cozy place and everything you could possibly need is there.

Ann was friendly and helpful.

Vinalhaven is a special place and this home has a charm just like the island.

I would stay here again and recommend it to others 100%!

A great Vinalhaven home base

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time and found the property adequate for our needs and economical. The owner is very accessible, pleasant and eager to help when needed. The living room is nicely decorated, upbeat feeling and colorful. The kitchen is small but has a large fridge and covers the basics of what you would need, especially if you don't cook a lot. We did cook most meals and found that there were a few things we needed, but we informed the owner and he has already taken care of them. The twin bedded bedroom is very spacious and comfortable; the queen bed is in a tight space and is best for one because of this. There is a nice feeling of being in a historic building. The town has restaurants and shops and a grocery store so you really can get your basic needs met there while you get away from the rest of the world! There is wifi in the house which works well in the downstairs, but not much works out and about on the island - not my gps or phone, anyway. We learned to depend on maps again. Perhaps with another carrier or system that would be better, but i think it may just be island life. I loved seeing people, especially kids and teens walking around without device screens and riding bikes - it felt like going back in time! Everyone, everywhere was very friendly and we felt at home quickly. The house has a central location but there is a good sized hill to walk if you get your exercise that way. We drove!

Excellent location and accomodations.

  • 5 of 5

This was my first trip to Vinalhaven (and definitely not my last!). The rental is nicely decorated and equipped with everything that you need for a fun stay in this great town. I cooked lobsters almost every day. It is centrally located to town so that you really do not need a car to get to most locations. (If you do, take the local taxi.) Caleb provided wonderful suggestions as to food and local attractions as well as went above and beyond as a landlord. Would highly recommend this rental and plan to return. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your great review and I'm so happy you were able to maximize your time on the island eating great food and exploring. I know if I were visiting a place this far off the beaten path I would want local help so was happy to help you get the most out of your visit. Please come again!
