Guestbook comments from the owner

Creekside Cottage was everything I hoped it would be. It was such a charming little cottage that had everything you needed to be comfortable. My husband and I plan to return earlier in the year to visit Foggy Ridge Cider to have a sample of the cider. Thanks Diane for sharing your precious cottage with my husband and I, it was exactly what we needed.

Great little cottage away from it all. Perfect place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Foggy Cider Farm. It was a perfect little getaway cottage in a beautiful mountain setting. Accomodations were great everything was very clean. Beds are comfortable. The gardens around the home are great. My boyfriend and I love taking photos and we enjoyed the butterfly's and humming birds that would visit. We're hikers too. There are fantastic hikes in the area as well as the property. Great little mountain towns nearby to enjoy. Our favorite 2 spots were the Poor Farmers Market in Meadows of Dan and the Creek Bottom Brewery in Galax, BEST wings we've ever tried. We will definitely be coming back for a second vacation! Thanks so much Diane for your hospitality and letting us share in your beautiful garden cottage retreat!!!

Owner's Response: I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay in the Garden House! Hiking is one of my favorite on-farm activities, and I agree there are great hikes nearby. We will add Creek Bottom Brewery to our guest book; it sounds like the perfect spot to visit in Galax after a bike ride on the New River Trail! Come back in Spring to enjoy different scenery and all the great pottery and art galleries in the area!

Beautiful, quiet get away

This stay was so perfect. The cottage is on a secluded dirt road with a creek running beside it. You can explore or just enjoy the porch. Also, the cider tasting was amazing! Can't wait to go back again.

We had a great time at The Garden House. It was relaxing and hearing the creek outside the window put you too sleep. The weather was not the best due to tropical storm Nate but we found several places to visit around Floyd, VA. This place is six miles from the parkway very near Mabry Mill. The house has everything you need, and while we were sitting on the porch wild turkeys came across the yard.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and saw our rural version of the "commuting traffic jam"—a flock of wild turkeys strolling across the road! I'm sorry the hurricane interfered with hiking plans but at least you were cozy in the warm cottage and found many things to do in nearby Floyd, Meadows of Dan, Mabry Mill and Hillsville. Next time, the weather will be good and you can bike the New River Trail! Come back soon. Diane

Perfect getaway cabin with all the modern conveniences.

Quiet getaway. Enjoyed listening to the little creek through the bedroom window. Said hello to an industrious groundhog in the morning. Nicely furnished. Everything you need to enjoy some time away from NoVa!

Owner's Response: I'm happy you enjoyed your stay—we love sharing our quiet corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains with guests. The sounds of a rushing creek at night, or on the deck in the morning with coffee, are so relaxing. And yes, Oscar, our resident groundhog is quite friendly and harmless...other than to grubs and young trees! Come back soon!

Great and relaxing!

Cute little cottage off the grid. The mountain version of being at the beach. Peace, quiet and dark nights. The only room for improvement is the need for some additional basic cookware. Otherwise a great experience. We are already thinking about our next visit with the kids.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in this rural retreat and that you plan to return with the family. We've just added new cookware, and updated cooking utensils so you should find a fresh set of everything in place when you next visit. The VRBO site details the kitchen supplies, for the future. And let us know if there is a specialty item you think we should add to the Garden House cottage!

Car: necessary

The Garden House is in a rural area of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, just 8 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nearby attractions include Mabry Mill, Primland Golf Resort, the New River Trail (a walking and biking trail), Buffalo Mountain and the back-in-time town of Floyd, home to the General Store Friday Night Jamboree. Local potters from the 16 Hands Studio and local music on the Crooked Road round out the offerings in this quiet corner of Virginia.

Bring a road bike for the Blue Ridge Parkway, or a fat tire bike for the nearby New River Trail and experience some of the south's best biking. Hiking is right out the front door on the 200 acre Foggy Ridge Cider farm—nearby Buffalo Mountain and the Rock Castle Gorge trail system offer hikes with long views across the Blue Ridge. The town of Floyd is a must for the Friday Night Jamboree, and local restaurants featuring music and fresh local dishes. Troika art gallery in Floyd features the area's best artists, plus many must-see pottery studios scattered around the county. The Blue Ridge Music Center, only a 30 minute drive, offers music every night during summer and fall. Primland Golf Resort is a 20 minute drive from the Garden House, with world class golf and upscale dining. Closer by you'll find Olde Mill Golf Resort with a stunning mountain course and excellent dining at Maples Restaurant.
