Welcome to Bend’s fabulous west side! You can walk just about anywhere from here: Les Schwab Amphitheater for outdoor concerts; Columbia, McKay and Miller's Landing Parks; shops/restaurants on Galveston Ave and Newport Ave; and the Mt. Bachelor Park 'n' Ride for you skiers, to name a few. The heart of downtown shopping and dining is one mile away - and can be walked to almost entirely through our beautiful, riverside Drake Park! On the way, you might pass through one of our many park events, such as 'Munch 'n' Music, the Classic Car Show, or perhaps our Wednesday afternoon local farmer's market.

Cumberland House is just two blocks from 10 Barrel Brewing, with its roaring outdoor wood-burning fireplace and roll-up doors that merge indoors and outdoors. This is one of our 'go-to' local breweries. You will also be a stone's throw from Goodlife Brewing, and a short drive away from Crux Fermentation Project. You will also be close to the Victorian Cafe, Ariana restaurant, Spork, and Chow, among other local hot spots.

Cumberland House is a roomy 1920's home that we have fully renovated. You will find modern furnishings and a clean, comfortable home to come back to at the end of your active day. The dining room, living room and kitchen have an open and light great-room feel - easy for socializing. The large family room has a flat screen TV with Blu-Ray and children's toy cupboard to make all ages feel at home. The gas fireplace provides a special after-ski warmth and the sliding glass doors open directly to the private HOT TUB and outdoor dining area.

The Master bedroom is set away from the others for privacy, and is furnished with a king size bed, flat screen TV, desk, dresser and large closet. You will love the custom headboard, made from wooden boards that were reclaimed from the old Shevlin-Hixon lumber mill, built in 1916.

The second bedroom has a queen size bed for your comfort. There is a third bedroom / office that our guests love when balancing work and play on the road. The office has a work desk and chair, office organizers, and a wonderful connection to our wireless internet. There is also a comfortable day lounger that can be used as a twin sized bed if needed. There is also a comfortable queen sized sleeper couch in the family room for additional guests. For your convenience when traveling with a younger family, we do provide a high chair, booster seat, and portable crib.

The front deck is an inviting spot to sip your morning coffee and enjoy the start of your Bend day with a few chapters of a good book or your hiking trail map. The backyard is fully fenced and secure for your children or four-legged friends. This home is powered with Blue Sky renewable energy!

This property also has a one bedroom, one bathroom standalone cottage adjacent to The Cumberland House that can be rented alone or in conjunction with the big house. About Lisa McDonald

I bought Cumberland House in 2003, and renovated it in 2005, when I dedcided to turn it into a vacation rental. In the first years, I did everything myself: cleaning, yard work, hot tub maintenance, reservations - you name it. But over the years, I gradually handed off different aspects of the business to people I felt were going to take care of my house as well as I did. So now, I am rarely there, although I live just a couple of streets away. Lisa has been managing everything for me since 2012, and she amazingly has the house booked over 80% of the time. She is incredible, and I thank her from head to toe! I now focus on my other business. I make one-of-a-kind fridge magnets and other souvenirs, along with unique political campaign buttons. You will find my Bend magnets around town at Newport Ave Market, Cascade Cottons, Lone Crow Bungalow and the Bend Visitors Center (aka Visit Bend). I love living in Bend with my 'tweenagers,' husband and our adorable Labradoodle, Linus. We love camping, hiking, floating the river, walking downtown, and making fires in the fire pit. We hope you love it here as much as we do!

Why Lisa McDonald chose Bend

We chose to live - and also buy a rental property - on the west side of Bend because it has great character and charm. We were not looking for a cookie-cutter home in a row where all the houses were just variations on a theme.

Cumberland House is across the street from a well-maintained home that has several, towering Ponderosa Pine trees. On the block is also a tiny, 300 square foot home, dating back to the old mill days, when the mill workers were allowed to take free lumber home on their lunch breaks. These homes were called 'lunchbox specials.'

We hope you like the house, the neighborhood, the town, and all that Bend has to offer.

Great location, clean, quiet and perfect for our little family.

We stayed at the Cumberland hose on our way back from Mt. Hood after I decided to extend our vacation a couple days longer. Bend is one of my favorite towns there is always so much to do and being super close to both Downtown and the Old Mill District driving anywhere was a non issue. My daughter who is 10 loved having the cruisers to use and I as a trail runner loved the fact that I could take off from the house and be on a trail in less than 10 minutes. The house had all the amenities we needed, the beds are super comfortable, and the neighborhood quiet and the hot tub and extra bonus for relaxing after a run and my daughters week at Hood skiing. Thank you.

Very clean, comfortable, and full of great amenities!

Check-in and check out were very simple, the property is clean and well decorated. They've included all of the amenities you could possibly need. Super close to downtown and the river trail. Highly recommend!

Great little house for families to enjoy Bend

We had a great long weekend in Bend with the family. The house is clean, well taken care of, and served as a great base for the 4 of us to explore some trails and do some hiking. For a small family you couldn't ask for a better location or more peaceful neighborhood. Definitely will be back again.

Great Location!

Perfect place for a week long trip of mountain biking. After long days of riding it was relaxing to come back to a hot tub and close location to downtown, local bike shops, and breweries. Looking forward to next year!

A wonderful Bend experience

We love visiting Bend. The Cumberland House made it an even more pleasant experience. The house is in a fantastic part of the city. We found it very easy to walk and bike to the river, the Old Mill, to downtown and to numerous restaurants. My kids enjoyed the hot tub and it was a great relief for me after hiking to the top of South Sister. The house is well equipped in the kitchen, we cooked many times. The beds are very comfortable. It truly was a home away from home. I appeciated the kindness of the proprietor and the understanding when I accidently washed a blue towel with the white ones. Lisa was very easy to work with. We had never spent such a long time in Bend in the summertime and found it hard to leave both the city and the house. We will most definitely be back.

Cumberland House is located in Bend's charming west side neighborhood, near many local dining spots and 10 Barrel Brewing Co. It's just 1 block to Columbia Park - right on The Deschutes River, with a big grassy park and pirate ship playground for young kids. A nice 15 minute stroll takes you into Bend's Historic downtown to the North or The Old Mill and Les Schwab Amphitheater (for rockin' outdoor concerts!) to the South. The very best of both worlds!
