Mauka to Makai Plantation Getaway

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type townhome
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Welcome to this very charming townhouse nestled in the lush valley of Makaha. The beauty of this two bedroom one full bathroom unit is the majestic Makaha mountains and pristine ocean views. If you have never been to Hawaii or Makaha, you will be pleased that you have found this gem as your first Hawaiian vacation spot. The location is a gated community with swimming pools, spa, tennis and basketball courts and other amenities in close walking distance. So, just picture after a long day sightseeing, surfing, snorkeling or hiking on one of many nearby trails, to come back to BBQing juice steaks or grilling fresh fish from local markets and dining poolside. The location has so much to offer with beautiful Hawaiian foliage on manicured grounds with an occasional peacock strutting by showing off its colorful plume.

The famous Makaha surfing beach is just down the road. Drive or hike down to the surfing beach to watch spectacular 20 feet waves in the winter or snorkel all year round at the Makaha Caverns. Makaha surfing beach is a visitor's dream beach to surf the breaks, swim and snorkel the caverns where the flora and fauna of this incredible area is home to many turtles, dolphins and all species of fish. You can even take in whale watching in season.

The Makaha area is also known as the westside and has many other neighboring beaches that offer flat stand up paddling conditions and smaller wave riding for novice surfers when Makaha is enjoying big waves for more seasoned surfers.

If hiking is on your list of things to do, Kaena Point hiking trail is a 2.5 mile trail just a few miles away that connects the westside to the north shore of Oahu. This trail is at the end of another famous westside surf beach known as Yokohama or "Yokes" for short. This is where the road ends and Kaena Point hiking trail begins. On your hiking adventure you are walking along the oceanside pathways where if on a very lucky day you could see all that Kaena has to offer...whales, dolphins, fish jumping and the rarely seen endangered monk seals basking on the sand in areas only accessed by boat. Other animals that make Kaena home are albatrosses and other bird species that make their nesting place along the pathway. And if you don't get all of your wish list Hawaiian adventures done in this vacation, Makaha will always be here for your return the same way you left if because we keep Makaha country. E Komo Mai!

Great place to come home to

  • 4 of 5

The west shore of Oahu is stunning. Definitely not nearly as many tourists as other areas of the island. We loved beaches were you didn't have to sit inches apart from others. We loved the mountains and the hiking they provided.

This house is very cozy and is exactly as it appears in the pictures. The whole place is very clean and a lovely place to come back to after a day of adventuring. The pool at the complex is a lovely addition as are the peacocks...although be prepared to get an early wake up call from them. There is a reasonable grocery store close by and everybody was very accommodating and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay!

Excellent Property - West Side is laid back

  • 5 of 5

First off, the owners of this property are very accommodating and welcoming. Secondly, the apartment was perfect for my wife and two small daughters. The apartment offers a washer/dryer, cookware, Netflix device, and beach toys. About the area: A low-priced grocery store is about 10 minutes away. There is a 3 1/2 mile running trail off the main road. The nearby beach is good for surfing but you will need to drive about 10 minutes to get to a calm kid friendly beach within a marina (across from the grocery store). Be advised that the west side of Oahu does not have the amount of tourist destinations like the rest of the island. You are truly out with the locals in this area. You must be willing to eat at the local eateries because there are very few chain restaurants. If you want to venture out to the rest of the island, avoid rush hour from 6-9 AM (traveling east) and 3-7 PM (traveling west). If you want a kid friendly, laid back vacation spot, this is perfect. If you want tourist traps, then look elsewhere than the west side.

Makaha Valley Plantation

  • 4 of 5

Very safe place, a few strict rules, interesting wildlife Inc Peacocks, roaming chickens that'll keep you awake early. Nice swimming pools and hot bath's if you don't fancy the very clean and pleasant nearby beaches. Western coast is definitely more inhabited by locals than tourists but we liked the compromise on value for money.
