About the property

Serene, majestic location in Rocky Mountains on 40 secluded acres

Serene, majestic, and private location in southern Rocky Mountains on 40 secluded acres at 9,000 feet elevation.

This setting is for those who love nature, peace, quiet, and outdoor beauty along with a chance to truly connect with those you bring with you to share this experience.

Location has fire pit, shower, toilet, fully equipped outdoor kitchen, picnic table, sink, firewood, and ice. Just bring food, beverages, your personal items, family and friends. Meals available - additional fee.

Breathtaking views in a private location on 40 secluded acres. Here you can truly get away from it all. A lot of creature comforts, but no electricity, internet, TV, etc. Water, ice, and firewood are brought in daily.

Owners/hosts live nearby and are a short walk away if you need anything. There are no other tipis on the property, so your experience will be completely private. You'll hear the wind in the trees, birds in the summer, and elk bugling in the fall. The wonderful smell of pine, cedar, and spruce will refresh you as you relax around the fire and fall asleep at night.

This tipi was made by Nomadic Tipi Makers who created the tipis in the movie Dances w/ Wolves. Custom-painted, this tipi features nature scenes, along with a mountain motif around the base, and phases of the moon near the top.

The 20-ft oval interior sleeps four (1 Queen, 2 twins) on heavenly comfortable beds (storage underneath) with 5-inch thick memory-foam mattresses. Snuggly down comforters, wool blankets and soft sheets ensure your warmth and comfort at night, as you stargaze through the smoke-hole of your tipi. Additional blankets are stored in bench seating.

Log seating surrounds the firepit; wood is provided for each night's stay. The skies are black, and there are so many stars that it's difficult to find familiar constellations. You'll see the Milky Way arching across the sky at night.

The Perseid meteor shower occurs in mid-August, reaching peak activity around August 11-13. What a show! Be patient, and you'll see the International Space Station and other satellites passing overhead on clear nights.

Redwood picnic table and benches, dish washing sink (and detergent), authentic enamelware plates, bowls, cups, and spoons. Flatware, glasses, cooking utensils, pots, pans, dish towels, napkins, salt, pepper, sugar, french press coffee pot, and a campfire popcorn popper (popcorn provided). Locked container is for food and trash. Large cooler provided. Hosts remove trash daily and also bring additional ice and firewood for the day. Just bring food and beverages. Hot breakfast and dinner available for an additional fee. Arrange with hosts after booking.

Shower outdoors in a private enclosure that is open to sky, trees, and mountains. Individual solar shower is provided for each guest. Plush towels, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are provided as well.

Toilet is in unique multi-wood outdoor enclosure. Toilet paper, air freshener, hand-sanitizer, hand towels and reading material appropriate to the setting are provided. :-)

Hike the property and enjoy the nature and wildlife. Native American- themed reading materials for children of all ages from 5 to 95. Content is both educational and some is pure entertainment. Horseshoe pit and horseshoes (of course) provided.

Why Joyce and Michael Omohundro chose Cañon City

I love the peace, quiet, animals, and majestic beauty of the mountains and location. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

What makes this lodge unique

This setting is on a 6,500 acre ranch occupied by 13 families, so you will not likely see other people, hear vehicular traffic, or your neighbor's choice of music. This vacation rental is for the 40 acres only. All other properties and roads on the ranch are private, but you will have thousand-acre views! Look for sightings of elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, Rocky Mountain big horn sheep, eagles (bald and golden), chipmunks, ground squirrels, tree squirrels (gray and Abert's), and whistle-pigs (marmots). The shy ones are bears, cougar, lynx, bobcat, and badger. Most likely you will not see any of the last group, but they are out here and you might! Have your cameras ready. :-) The setting is very much like a national park except there are no other visitors, no developed trails, no ranger stations, etc. This is a unique experience.

The pictures do not do it justice! Even more stunning to be there!

Being at 9,000 ft. elevation in the southern Rockies in a campsite sleeping in a teepee was a bucket list moment for us!! We saw some wildlife, smelled the pine and cedar and just enjoyed the gorgeous views and sunsets. The setting is surreal! The campsite has different areas, teepee, firepit with chairs and log stumps, outdoor shower, bathroom enclosure, and picnic/cooking area. The paths to each area are lined with wood branches and at night the solar lights illuminate the paths and is so pretty. The teepee itself is roomy and felt very secure. The second night it rained a bit and the winds were strong, but we felt secure and stayed dry. The mattresses were super-comfy, the linens were soft and the comforter/blankets kept us super warm. The outdoor shower was a fun experience. The toilet enclosure had everything you could need. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban during our stay so we were not able to have a fire in the firepit. The hosts do provide many amenities, but double check before your stay as the nearest grocery store is approximately 45 minutes away and you probably do not want to do the drive back in to town for a forgotten item. The hosts live on the property and met us when we arrived to show us around. All around a great stay where we made lifelong memories!!

The Royal Gorge area is scenic and suited for individuals, families, and groups seeking outdoor activities and relaxing in a quieter atmosphere of years gone by.

Throughout the year there community sponsored events in addition to whitewater rafting, zip lines, helicopter rides, hunting, golf, gold medal fishing, horse back riding, hunting, mountain and scenic bike trails, jeep tours, museums, wildlife viewing, and rock climbing.

We have recommended activities that you should review for this area.
