Bordering the Seine River and just beside Notre Dame Cathedral, this exceptional location in the heart of the Quartier Latin is extremely popular. It is one of the most youthful areas of Paris and also encompasses historical points of interest; for example it has been the center of Parisian education since the Middle Ages.
In the nearby pedestrian streets there are many diverse restaurants and cafes, clothing boutiques, bookstores…other services are found along the Boulevard Saint Michel, where the Sorbonne is located, and in the neighboring famous Boulevard Saint Germain.
It is a pleasant walk to many famous destinations such as Notre Dame,The Louvre, Centre Pompidou,Saint-Sulplice Church, Jardin du Luxembourg, Musée D'Orsay,Invalides,Concorde,Madeleine,Grand-Palais, Champs-Elysées and of course the walking paths alway Seine River going toward Jardin des Plants and the Natural Museum and Zoo.
It is very close proximity to two main subway station Saint-Michel and Odeon which also provide diredt access by rail to Versailles, Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.Numerous bus lines can be found nearly to you conveniently all over Paris.
This 30m² studio apartment is located on the second floor (third in the USA) of a well-maintained 17th century walk-up building. The street’s entrance gate is protected by a coded security system and it opens onto a paved interior courtyard, which leads to an old-fashioned staircase.
The entrance door opens onto the living / sleeping room. On the left hand side there is an open kitchen and straight ahead is the bedroom area. The bathroom is accessible through the bedroom.
The apartment has a northwest exposure. The floor has typical Parisian old-fashioned tiles (tommette) and there are ceiling beams.
The living room has a window that overlooks the courtyard. It is furnished in an antique style with a desk, chair, a wooden dining table, a bench, two armchairs, a coffee table and a double bed. There are built-in shelves that hold a flat screen cable TV with its DVD player. There is also a decorative fireplace.
The large walk in closet has shelves, a wardrobe, a laundry machine (combo washer / dryer) and an extra twin bed.
The open kitchen is stylish in a contemporary way. It is equipped with two vitro-ceramic burners, a combo microwave / grill oven, a dishwasher, a refrigerator/ freezer, a coffee maker and a toaster.
The bathroom has stone walls and ceiling beams. It is equipped with a bathtub with a showerhead, a sink and a toilet.
The nearest metro station is Saint Michel (line 4, RER C).
This little apartment could not be better placed for exploring Paris. Despite being close to three major boulevards it is very quiet (except when the inevitable wheelie bins are rolled out each morning - has nobody ever heard of rubber tyres?) and there is almost no traffic on the narrow street. We slept with the window open and never heard more than muffled, subdued noise from the other apartments either.
The apartment is clean and bright with everything you need, a full bath and even a heated towel rail which was great for drying. There is an eclectic assortment of crockery as well as some basic condiments for cooking. But be sure to ask Fabrice how the cooktop works, we never did discover how to turn it on though there seemed to be a manual for everything else!
We found the mattress was quite comfortable and not particularly hard (see other reviews). The couch however may have "charm" but in reality is a bit shabby and uncomfortable. That's the only negative thing I can think of really, and I would certainly stay here again.
My husband and I returned a few weeks ago from our 7th stay (in the last eight years) in Fabrice's wonderful apartment: we have stayed in four other apartments in Paris (twice in larger places with other people, once elsewhere when this was booked, and once in his other apartment) but keep returning to Fidelio because we love it. Yes, the mattress is very firm but we bring a flat sheet for cover and layer the blanket, duvet, and quilt and we are fine. The bathtub is the perfect size and shape for me and the slope at the back makes it extremely comfortable for a nice relaxing soak! Never had a problem with a lack of hot water. We cook often and the kitchenette is well equipped (like the new microwave!). The washer/dryer is a great help. There are shelves of books -- helpful and interesting. The air conditioner keeps the apartment cool in the summer and the heater keeps it comfortably warm in the winter. Be aware that there are stairs: 45 up to the apartment in addition to the 83 up from the Metro, but that helps balance out all the lovely Parisian pastries! And, yes, there are timed lights on the stairs, one switch is just by the apartment door. We love the area: only a very short walk from the Saint Michel RER station (great if coming from Orly or CDG) and the Metro (if coming from Gare de l'Est). There are numerous restaurants, creperies, and bakeries a short distance away and a Monoprix within easy walking distance. Notre-Dame, St.Severin, and Cluny are all close by. In addition to all of this, Fabrice is very charming and helpful. Need I say that we plan to keep coming back!
We stayed 5 nights at this apartment. Fantastic location as we walked all over Paris from this location. The neighborhood streets are small and safe. The apartment is located up on the 3rd level and had everything we needed for our stay (we used the computer, wifi, washer/dryer, stove, coffee/tea maker...all with ease). The building was very secure. Fabrice was easy to work with and prompt on day of arrival. The bed is quite firm, something to consider but worked well for us. In all, a wonderful apartment.
I would most definitely rent this apartment again on my next trip to Paris! I brought my 12 yr old son on his first visit to Paris and wanted to give him an experience he would never forget & this apartment made all the difference. The location couldn't be more perfect. Just off the Seine & Notre Dame if your turn right from the gate, turn left and you will find the lively St. Andre street. The St. Michel/RER metro stop is about a 5 minute walk, we took the metro from airport and everywhere else in Paris. We never once took a taxi once! Monoprix supermarket minutes away and Mc Donalds too (yes, I had to give in once to my son!).Having the apartment within walking distance to food stores, the Metro, Louvre, Cluny Museum, Notre Dame, and a bank (BNP atm) was key for our visit as we were able to return to the apartment for lunch most days.My son really enjoyed just 'hanging' out in the apartment with the Wi-Fi availability and the TV,really made things easier when traveling with a pre-teen! We had every breakfast in the apartment. The apartment had everything you need for a comfortable visit. There was even a hair blow-dryer which i did not expect but was thrilled since I didn't bring mine. It was chilly that week,so the heater was used daily, worked perfectly! The bed mattress is on the firm side but that's how I like it. Plenty of hot water in the shower/tub. Everything very clean and in working condition. I even washed a load of clothes for my son in the washing/drying machine which worked perfectly. The apt. is on a very quiet street, I was very surprised how quiet as just feet away is busy St. Andre street. I always felt safe and secure in the apartment with a very lovely courtyard. Fabrice was wonderful! and so patient with us when I had trouble getting money from the ATM machine. I'm already planning a visit again to Paris and hope Fabric's apt will be available! Merci encore Fabrice!
My husband and I spent a wonderful week in Fabrice's studio on Rue Sequier. We would not hesitate to return. Terrific location with easy access to RER B and Metro. Clean, quiet, well-stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, tv with CNN/BBC channels, wifi, computer/printer, nice hot water and towel heater. An added bonus was Fabrice meeting us early in the morning thus not waiting for a typical early afternoon check in. ! Fabrice is wonderful to work with in all regards; helped us quickly and effectively in addressing a problem with the dryer.
I would mention that if you have a problem with stairs, you might reconsider as this studio is on the 3rd floor. Occasional street noise, but hey, it's Paris! We were so full of fresh air and red wine, we hardly noticed. A gem. We will return.
My adult daughter and I stayed in this apartment for 6 nights. The description and photos accurately depict the apartment. It is clean, well-stocked, safe, incredibly well-located where St. Germain meets the Latin Quarter, is very comfortable, and has everything you need. The bed is firm (I like that) and the location is very quiet even though you are just steps away from the heart of Paris. The Metro, restaurants, attractions, and groceries are all close by. You can easily use the RER to or from either airport, saving you a large taxi fare, as the walk to/from the Notre Dame/St. Michel station is less than 5 minutes.
The owner is very easy to work with and was very responsive to inquiries before and during the trip. He met us promptly at the scheduled time to explain how to use all the appliances and set up my tablet for the wi-fi connection. Additionally, there was a detailed instruction notebook for everything in the apartment. The desktop computer and telephone with free local calls and calls to the US were a huge bonus. Internet connection was fast and reliable.
My only disappointment is that we were unable to store our luggage for 2-3 hours on check-out day. Our flight didn't leave until 2:40, and we had to be out of the apartment by 9:30 because other guests were checking in. This meant spending 4 long hours at the airport. Other than that, the apartment was perfect, and I highly recommend!
Other things to mention:
1. While the water pressure was excellent, the hot water seemed to run out quickly. We learned this on the first night after one of us had taken a shower and the other did not have hot water. For the remainder of the trip, we took shorter showers and kept them warm rather than the hot so that we'd both have comfortable showers. That solution worked well. The hot water issue may have been due to the unseasonably cold weather as I have not seen any other comments about this.
2. There are two flights of stairs to the apartment, so those with mobility issues may find this apartment unsuitable. If you come in after dark, be aware that when we were there, there were no lights in the stairwell or on the landing. I have a flashlight app on my phone which we found helpful and used to find the keyhole of the door.
These comments are not negatives; they are for informational purposes only. I would not hesitate to stay here again! Loved Paris, loved this apartment, and cannot wait to return!
