About Eileen or Wally

We live in Mantiou Springs and work in education. Although we love Manitou, we also love being able to get away to Salida for nice relaxing weekends when we are able to.

Eileen or Wally purchased this house in 2004

Why Eileen or Wally chose Salida

As we said earlier, we wanted a place to get away to that was within a reasonable distance from our home in Manitou Springs. We fell in love with Salida and were fortunate enough to find one of the very few available homes on the river. We just couldn't pass it up!

What makes this house unique

The house and neighborhood are surprisingly quiet considering how close it is to downtown. All the traffic turns before they come down Sackett unless they live on that street, which is only 3 blocks long. We have the Arkansas River in our backyard, and all the downtown shops and restaurants are a short walk away (one block). We are 20 minutes from Monarch and less than a mile from the Salida Golf Course. There are no limits to the things you can do in and around Salida and we think that we were more than lucky to have found a house in this particular location. We love it there.

Very nice indeed! The longer we stayed the more we enjoyed it. Can't wait to come again!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this visit very much. Nice views, plenty of well stocked items, close to town and walks. Loved the cozy blankets. We made friends with the neighbors as well as some of the merchants in town. Getting to chat with local artists was an added plus as our son too is an artist. Recommend Absolute Bikes Absolutely! Great trails for walking or biking. Honestly we would like to stay here at least once a month. The yard is an added plus. Will plan several more trips if it is available. We loved it! I would like to go again tomorrow! Thanks for letting us stay. Hope to see you very soon again.

Clean and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect property for our family of 6 and pup! Clean, cozy, and it has beautiful views of the river and the Salida mountain! We've stayed here twice and loved it both times, can't wait to return! The yard is spacious and fenced, perfect for kids and dogs. We walk everywhere from the house, including to the park to play and restaurants to eat.

Can’t wait to stay here again!

  • 5 of 5

This was our very first VRBO and we had a wonderful stay! The property owners were great! Easy to communicate with. Check in check out was easy. Love that they are dog friendly with a reasonable cleaning fee! Some VRBO’s charge an arm and a leg for pets to stay, but my pets are better behaved than many kids. We had the most wonderful time! A truly relaxing retreat! A wonderful way to ring in the new year! We are already planning our next stay!!! Thank you so much Rio Perdido!

Not all is lost at the lost river!

  • 4 of 5

We loved this house right on the river. This house has everything you need to stay for a week. We could easily walk to dinner or go shopping without starting up the car. The beds are super comfortable if you like soft beds. The living room has plenty of space and we even played a couple of the furnished board/card games. I can imagine that this is a hot spot to stay during the summer! It was warm enough that we could sit down by the river and relax. This is one of our new favorite Salida houses! Enjoy!

Owner's Response: We are always happy to hear that people enjoyed the house and had a good vacation. We sometimes wait all year for a week away from it all and do our best to make sure our guests have a great week. Thank you for the kind words!

Another fantastic visit to Rio Perdido

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th visit to this particular home and we've been very happy with every stay. Our little doggie, a 10# miniature dachshund, loves the big green lawn which she does not have where we live (at 9100' near Winter Park ski area where our yard consists of pine cones, rock outcroppings, wildflowers, etc.). And having the beautiful Arkansas River rushing by beyond the totally fenced in back yard is so enjoyable for my husband and I. We love to lay out on the lounge chairs and watch the rafters and kayakers go by as well as the beautiful Mallards. The home is just a block or so away from the town park where we've enjoyed 2 outdoor concerts in the last few years. And every time we go, we discover another restaurant that we can't wait to return to; this time we found Amicas which has delicious wood fired pizza, Seasons (about a half a block from the house) where we had some breakfast burritos for the road this morning before driving home and Sweeties, a bakery that sells delicious fresh baked bread and yummy hot and cold sandwiches. I would also recommend a visit to the honey store across the street from the Safeway where we found a raspberry honey we enjoyed so much that we bought 4 jars--3 for us and one for a gift. We drove to the top of Monarch Pass and then rode the gondola up to the top of the mountain for some of the most amazing views you'll ever see. And we've always thoroughly enjoyed working with the homeowners who are very accommodating and have gone out of their way to make sure we always have an enjoyable time. So what did I do on our drive home today but call the owner and tell him we can't wait to come back again in October for our next visit!
