Some unique benefits of our cottage include its location to the start of the SM Race in May -- just a walk to the end of the street! Our location is also ideal for watching log canoe races in June, fireworks in July , walking or biking to the Wine Festival in April and/or taking advantage of the many wonderful events scheduled at the Maritime Museum. About Diana Bartell

My husband and I fell in love with Saint Michaels 20 Years ago during an anniversary weekend. We began looking for a weekend home and were fortunate to find the cottage in 2006. As our family grew we renovated a slightly larger home near by. We decided to keep the cottage for our family to enjoy and now offer it to guests to enjoy its many charms as well.

Diana Bartell purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Diana Bartell chose Eastern Shore

The location is ideal! It's on a gorgeous corner lot with the Miles River at the end of the street and the views and sunsets are incredible. You can easily walk or bike to town -- my daughter and her friends like to go to Justines ice cream in the summer and I enjoy biking to the farmers market for flowers and delicious pastries. My husband and I also love to run and take advantage of the SM race every year. The starting line is just down the street, perhaps a 3 minute walk. During the warmer months we also ride or walk into town or the harbor to enjoy the unique dining/shopping

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has an enchanting feel to it. A sign in the kitchen says it all "This is my happy Place" We hope it is for our guests as well. The screened in porch is a favorite spot to relax, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or coffee in the morning. We hope the welcome basket with baked breakfast breads, savory snacks and chocolate will help begin your relaxing stay.

Lovely St. Michael's cottage

  • 5 of 5

This property really raises the bar for VRBO cottages! The pictures are accurate and make me wish I was back there now. The kitchen is well stocked (thank you for the welcome snacks, banana bread, and wine, so nice after a long day of flying from the West Coast), even the interior light was left on so we weren't fumbling around in the dark upon arrival. It is located in a very quiet neighborhood spot that is close to town but without the traffic noise, and walking around the adjacent streets with the upscale and beautiful houses is quite enjoyable. Not many rentals have such comfortable and newer beds, nice linens, and even fresh flowers! We will definitely be back and plan to recommend this to anyone planning a trip here.

Charming, convenient, and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was very comfortable and homey. Diana provides many touches that make you feel welcome , from fresh flowers everywhere to extra toiletries if you forgot something as well as things like paper products, cleaners, and ample cookware and dishes to make some meals at "home." She also provides a wonderful welcome basket and she went out of her way to make sure it was all things we could have even with our dietary restrictions. There was even wine, fruit, and cheese in the fridge! There are brochures for area attractions and restaurants and if you want to stay in there are puzzles, books, and movies provided to occupy your time. She was extremely responsive to messages when I had a question or concern.

Since we were only about a mile outside of town many days we just walked and since it's fairly flat in the area it was an easy walk even for my husband who was recently diagnosed with early COPD. Diana does provide cruiser style bikes and we took those out a couple of times, though we stayed off the main roads since I'm such a wobbly rider. There's a nice nature path complete with wooden covered bridge you can ride on if you want to stay out of traffic. You can see the Miles River from the yard and some of the windows and I was able to watch the sun rise most mornings (we had a few days of bad weather) and in the evenings we walked to the end of the road where there is the tiniest "park" I have ever seen to sit on a bench and watch sailboats on the water.

We were so relaxed and comfortable in this cottage that we didn't want to leave when our time was up. St. Michaels itself is such a friendly, welcoming, quaint town that we fell in love. We will absolutely want to stay here again when (not if!) we come back.

1st Class Stay

  • 5 of 5

The host was incredibly responsive. House was tidy and clean. Best of all was all the extra care that went into our family feeling at home: the healthy snacks provided, chilled wine and fresh baked bread. Even the essential items laid out for us "just in case" showed remarkable attention to detail that was most certainly noticed and very much appreciated.

Stayed for 10 days in April 2017. Nicely decorated, comfortable and very livable. Located close to the river and within minutes of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, harbor and downtown area. Highly recommended.
