About the property

New Renovation! 1.4 miles to Old City-Downtown

Come relax in one of the nicest city registered B&B's in town - this private suite has everything you need for a fun & rejuvenating weekend close to the downtown life!

An official Bed & Breakfast, the Glenwood Inn is a historic home with the flexibility to rent out different spaces. The Glenwood Studio provides a separate entrance from the rest of the house and sleeps 6+...

The Glenwood Studio is an open floor plan basement apartment - one spacious room + full bathroom complete with:

-- Kitchenette stocked with electric range, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, cooking items/dishes, table & chairs

-- Luxurious full bath with Jacuzzi tub/shower

-- Queen bed offset in cozy sleeping nook

-- Queen pull out sofa bed

-- Full/queen pull out sofa bed

-- Single over-sized window bed

-- Swivel TV - you can view from couches, queen bed or kitchen table

-- Toiletries provided

-- Full size fridge with ice maker stocked with complimentary breakfast items & snacks & filtered water pitcher

Our family - including a baby and a dog - lives in the house upstairs but does not inhabit the Studio.

** We have 2 bikes available and most likely can obtain more if we have advance notice - ask in advance if you want to have bike access during your stay **

** Ask us about extra air mattresses and bedding if needed **

** Different pricing for UT sports weekends and special events **

Guests have access to the entire private Studio and outdoor areas, including the front porch with swing and rocking chairs. Guests can request a home cooked breakfast to be shared upstairs in hosts dining room, or you can utilize the apartment kitchenette and do your own thing. We like to stock the fridge with breakfast items and a few snacks for your enjoyment!

We love to interact with guests and tell about all of the must see Knoxville & surrounding area attractions. We have a friendly dog named Chance but he lives in the upstairs and never enters the Studio, this is a dog free area. We can cater to any guest expectation - you are welcome to share in the Candlish family life during your stay; also, if you want privacy just let us know. We welcome you into our home!

The Neighborhood:

The 4th & Gill Historic Overlay District boasts a unique variety of architectural styles and beautiful homes. Several homes in the neighborhood were designed by the notable Knoxville architects George F. Barber and Joseph Bauman. Flowers and foliage can be enjoyed spring, summer and fall, and early winter dons the neighborhood with Christmas decorations.

The area is equipped with sidewalks on which you can always find locals strolling the streets with pets, friends and children. Miles of hiking and biking space can be explored less than 5 miles down the street at Ijams Nature Center.

You can stock up on food and beverage less than a mile away at the local liquor store and Kroger grocery. There is a wonderful coffee shop, K Brew just a few blocks up the street and a bakery in the shops just up the hill. Several local breweries and restaurants are within walking/biking distance (if you like to walk or bike) or a short drive away.

Getting Around:

We are just 3 miles away from Neyland Stadium and less than 2 to downtown Knoxville. You can hear the fireworks when UT scores a touchdown and see 4th of July fireworks from our house!

We have 2 bikes available for your convenience and if you need more just ask, we can most likely get enough for your party to use. Uber is a short ride to any of the downtown/university attractions, and if you like to hike, you can reach any of these destinations on foot. There are local bus and trolley lines to help with transportation as well, info provided with lodging.

Other Things to Note:

On site parking!

Please ask if you need a different check in/check out time as we can usually accommodate. We will consider allowing pets to stay with you for an extra fee - just ask us about it!

Additional fees:

Ask us if you want to bring a pet. Typical pet fees are $20-50.

There is a $25 fee per person after two guests.

Fees will be charged accordingly if anything is broken or damaged.

About JR Candlish

J.R. & Liz love Downtown Knoxville and bought a historic home in the area the summer of 2014. They renovated the basement studio the following summer and registered The Glenwood Inn as an official Bed & Breakfast with the city of Knoxville. They very much enjoy meeting all the travelers who come visit.

J.R. is passionate about fly fishing and hooking trophy trout/bass/carp - any BIG fish. Liz loves cooking, art, music & babies. J.R. and Liz welcomed their first baby in September 2015. They both long to travel together to experience new cultures and enjoy time with family & friends.

Clean, modern, friendly

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one night. Next time we're in Knoxville we would like to stay here again -- and more than one night.

They retrieved a sports coat I left behind and got it to a friend to send on to me.
