About Audrey or Win Faulkner

My wife and I were born in Anchorage and have lived and skied in the mountains around Girdwood and on Mt. Alyeska since our youth. After spending many years outside Alaska getting educated, we returned to our home state, fell in love and have been raising our family here ever since. I am a general aviation pilot and enjoy flying around Alaska and seeing the state. I run a real estate business and have rental properties in Girdwood and Anchorage.

Audrey or Win Faulkner purchased this house in 1996

Why Audrey or Win Faulkner chose Alaska

Mount Alyeska and the town of Girdwood is Anchorage's local ski resort, nestled in the heart of the Chugach Mountains just a short drive from Anchorage. Girdwood is a charming town that is filled with huge spruce trees, surrounded by mountains and glaciers and best of all, it snows a ton in the winter making the skiing some of the best around.

What makes this house unique

Our home is just a few hundred yards from the base of Mt. Alyeska. Located on a well kept bike path that leads to the mountain, walking or biking from our home and accessing the rest of the Girdwood Valley is easy. Our luxurious home is very open and spacious, has a wall of windows facing the mountain, and a large open circular fireplace that will make you feel like you are in your own ski lodge.

Alaska is a wonderful place to visit and soooo beautiful!

VRBO Bear stayed here

Jul 19, 2003

Everything is BIG in Alaska - especially the mountains!!! How about the view of Mount Alyeska from inside this home? To the right is a picture of me sitting on the living room window sill. "Bearific" view I would say! Summertime is a great time to visit Alaska. It stays light until after midnight here, which gave me lots of time to explore, but sometimes I would just sit and watch the mountain from inside this vacation home... And every so often, some daredevils would parasail off the mountain above and I'd watch them as they gently drifted down to the valley floor... Way-cool! You can tell that the owners have spent a lot of time making the inside of this home a special haven. The kitchen was great with granite counter tops and all the conveniences of home, plus the huge jetted bath tub on the main floor was just the thing to sooth tired bear muscles. My new buddies, Mike and Don really liked relaxing with a game of pool after a full day of exploring... and their wives, Carolyn and Jan enjoyed reading in the comfy cozy couches and chairs around the fireplace and also in the TV room. I had some great naps here and even VRBO Webmasters Dave and Lynn found it hard to keep their eyes open in this great comfortable home... Beary-beary nice! Signed, VRBO Bear P.S. In case you didn't know, salmon is one of my favorite foods... and there's no better place to find fresh salmon then here in Alaska. But, if you're looking for a great change of pace, try the "Double Musky Inn" (about a mile from this home)... believe it or not, it has great Cajun food, and large portions... Check it out!

Beautiful Spacious Home

  • 5 of 5

The great room concept with the fireplace was what we first fell in love with. So much room to move around and feel like we all had our own space. It was nice at the end of a long day to kick back on the recliner couches. Owners were very responsive while we were there (we didn't need much, but a couple of texts to help us navigate!). Everything was very clean as well. We would recommend it to anyone and definitely stay again if given the chance. Thank you!

Family reunion

Beautiful great room with central fireplace. Modern well appointed kitchen that was easy to maneuver in. Recreational opportunities at every turn and separate sleeping rooms and baths upstairs away from activity if desired. A must arrangement for families harmony. Would book again in heartbeat

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a six-night stay in Girdwood. Absolutely beautiful home - loved the living room area and the pool table! We spent nearly every night playing pool. The house was very clean and quiet and we were very, very sad to leave. The property is close to Chair 5, which is an excellent restaurant with more than ample servings. Audrey was a pleasure to deal with (very helpful) and left us some wonderful smoked salmon. If we ever return to Girdwood we would most definitely stay here again!

Great Home Near Alyeska

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 7 snowboarders stayed here in early March on our trip to Alyeska. From the minute we pulled into the driveway we knew that we had chosen wisely. The property is very close to the resort, so close that you could gauge conditions by looking out the window. When I entered the home I was blown away at how nice it was. Everything was very clean and there was plenty of space for 7 men and snowboarding gear. While unpacking our supplies we found that the property owners had left us a sampling of smoked salmon that they had caught and smoked, along with some cream cheese spread and crackers. Needless to say we were in heaven from the get-go. It was such a nice personalized touch, and our entire group couldn't stop talking about it. All of the rooms were great, and the house had everything one would need for a weeks stay. The property is very close to the local mercantile, which carried a wide variety of groceries and adult beverages, but I do recommend purchasing your groceries in Anchorage prior to hitting the road. The only tricky business with this property is the trash situation. Make sure to do your research up front and figure out which drop-off locations are open when you plan on leaving, as it is your responsibility to dispose of the trash. All in all this place is killer. Great location, great price, and guaranteed great time. The property owners Winthrop and Audrey are absolute legends, and I will most certainly rent from them again if I find myself heading to Girdwood.

Great For Small Groups - Not Large Parties

  • 3 of 5

Great house with lot's of space and beds. Very comfortable environment. Great access to hiking and to Whittier. But don't have anyone outside of your contracted number of people over at the house if you have friends or family in town. A phone call will go from an intrusive neighbor to the homeowner to you as the renter within fifteen minutes. You'll end up feeling like a high school student whose been caught having a party when their parents are out of town.

Owner's Response: True – we specify in our rules that only the people on the reservation may occupy the house – and that no parties with non-lodge guests are allowed. On a rare occasion guests disregard this rule, as in this case. Our neighbor called us when the church parking lot across the street had six cars in it, all of whose passengers were at our home visiting our lodge guests. This was in addition to the multiple cars in our large parking lot. We do monitor the lodge closely, do not allow parties with non-lodge guests, and have a contract that states this that guests sign before renting our lodge. We have fine furnishings aimed at the comfort of high-end lodge guests and not conducive to large gatherings of non-guest partiers (who don’t know lodge rules). I guess you can’t please everyone.
