Amazing floor plan and room layout for big families or friends traveling together. Lots of privacy for everyone. Well stocked. Great game room with Pool, Air Hockey, Foosball and Video games. Great movie room. Pet friendly. We brought gates to block off 2 sets of stairs to keep dog in main area. Stairs are steep. Great views. Getting to the cabin was more challenging than we expected. Very steep winding mountain road. But fully paved. Once we got our bearings it was fine. Owners are absolutely incredible. Communication was outstanding from the moment we booked through our check out. They were nice, friendly, responsive to our needs. Very quick to respond. We had an amazing week with our family and highly recommend this cabin. 5 Stars for unit and owners. Only downside was steep road to the unit. But we are native Floridians so we are not accustomed to mountain roads.

The cabin is overall cozy and nice, but it is an older cabin, the kitchen is outdated but functional. They had a lot of hosting dishes and small appliances which we appreciated. However the drive up this mountain is steep, I wouldn't recommend driving up on snowy months, however I can imagine the views would be beautiful. My one issue would be to check the safely of this cabin as it is not child friendly, the balcony on the third floor needs to be redone bc some of the post are rotted thru and it's very dangerous for little children. Also the spacing on the old style deck is too open for comfort. And with 4 levels and lots of stairs this type of cabin is better for teens/young adults. Host were very helpful.

Our family stays in Gatlinburg every fall, and this cabin had the best views we have ever seen! The fall colors were amazing. We had a 93 year old down to an 18 month old staying. The main floor bedroom was convenient for the 93 year old. The kitchen was well-stocked. The dining area had room for all of us to eat and play games. The family room had seating for 7. The upper level bedroom was amazing! The movie room is upstairs too. On the first lower level is the game room which was a lot of fun. There is a powder room as well as queen bedrooms that share a bath. The lowest level has four king bedrooms and each has a shared bath. The hot tub is also on this level. Parking was convenient and not difficult like so many places we have stayed. The roads up to the cabin are in very good shape and safe to drive as well. There was a winter storm warning our last night there, and the owners kept us up to date on road conditions. We appreciated their help! They were lovely to work with and very responsive. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!

Overall my family and I enjoyed our stay. Location had a beautiful view and fully stocked with absolutely everything needed to ensure we were comfortable and equipped to host our family meals. It was in a very peaceful area away from the traffic noise and congestion. Waffle maker was broken but that was not a big deal for us. AC/Heating was working perfectly for those hot afternoons and cool evenings. Hosts were very kind and understanding when we arrived early and allowed us to check out a little later.

Our family had an amazing stay! The views are truly breathtaking. We saw bears several times over the weekend! The nearby pool was lovely and was a great viewpoint as well. The game room was so fun and had enough activities that our whole family could be together. The hot tub was great, and the house was stocked with every utensil and gadget you might need. Plenty of space here for a huge family! The location is close enough to attractions but even just enjoying the movie room in the cabin is a great family event.

What a great space for our family vacation! We had ages 8-73 with something for everyone. We had family game night, competitive games in the great game room, the kids loved the pool but most of all we enjoyed the beautiful views. We hiked the incredible mountains of the Smokies and fell in love with the scenery. I hope to come back for another family trip. Our hosts were available for anything we needed. Thank you!

Worst 24 hours of vacation EVER!

Cabin NOT cleaned upon arrival. Finally got in 2.5 hours AFTER check in. Beautiful view (the only positive)!Found out at one in the morning there were bed bugs!! And not just a few, one room was infested! Questions as to whether they knew and tried to treat, but missed a room? Had to repack 10 adults, 6 kids, a small dog, and all our stuff in the middle of the night, in the dark and rain. Find 4 hotel rooms, unpack; find a new place to stay the rest of the week, pack and unpack again; and spend a ton of time doing laundry to make sure we didn't bring any bugs home! First WHOLE day of vacation wasted and with lots of anxiety and stress. Still cleaning and having anxieties even though we've been home almost 2 weeks.Host became VERY difficult to have a conversation with after the first call about the dirty cabin, was very rude when we called at 0100 about bed bugs (she got to roll over and go back to sleep, we didn't), and was NOT helpful in finding a new place to stay.Kudos to my family for staying strong and to the rental agency that helped up find a new cabin last minute so our whole trip wasn't ruined! We do NOT recommend this cabin or host to anyone!

Trash lock issues & unfairly fined

We typically avoid writing negative reviews but feel compelled to share our experience due to unfair treatment. Initially, our communication with the owners was smooth, and the photos seemed to depict the ideal mountain house for our multi-family trip, which included two dogs. Since the booking system didn’t allow us to add the dogs, we reached out to the owners to pay the fee directly, and they invoiced us.The house had a stunning view but was smaller and more awkwardly laid out than the photos suggested. It also needed a deep cleaning—kitchen cabinets had crumbs and grease, and the overall cleanliness was subpar. When departing, we followed all the guidelines, but the padlocks on the trash bins were corroded and wouldn’t close despite multiple attempts by five of us. We secured the bins as best we could, wrapping the chains and using the provided clamp. After returning home, we were informed of a 284 fine because a bear accessed the trash twice, even after a neighbor attempted to secure the bins. Despite explaining the padlock issue, the owners claimed they worked perfectly. Communication post-departure was unprofessional, with texts arriving as late as 1:30 am.We feel the fine is excessive and unwarranted, especially given our transparency and honest efforts. This experience has led us to escalate the matter with VRBO.

Amazing cabin, perfect for large groups!

We and our guests absolutely loved this cabin. It is thoughtfully arranged and was the perfect get away for our wedding week. The views were absolutely incredible, I could have sat on the deck forever! Carlos and Karolina were very friendly, helpful, and responsive. The mountain roads were super intimidating at first, but we all got used to it. It was a hair further from town then we had hoped, but well worth the drive and we would definitely stay again.

Great Host to work with

It was Amazing from start to finish! The cabin description was exactly the way it was described. This has been one of the best experiences we’ve had while staying in pigeon Forge and Sevierville area, the cabin was fully stocked with all amenities. Karolina & Carlos were great host, the communication was refreshing as in all questions were answered in a timely manner. I loved that a notebook was provided with all instructions on the cabin from check in to check out requirements. We defiantly will be returning to this cabin for all of our big group events.

Extraordinary Views and Rooms

Our extended family of 13 ages 3 to 77 enjoyed this home because there were plenty of spaces to gather (game room, living/dining room, movie room). 8 bedrooms with a tv and views provided the privacy we like. Balconies on each of the 4 floors had wonderful views. We cooked all of our evening meals so the large well equipped kitchen was put to good use. This large house at the top of a "mountain" feels like a cabin. A small grassy area with rocking chairs was a nice space for our 3, 6 and 8 year old to play and enjoy an egg hunt. One of us has mobility problems, but she could climb the 5 steps to get inside and chose the bedroom on the main floor with the kitchen, living room, and balcony enabling her to participate in meals and many family activities. (fyi, a bathroom tub with shower, not an accessible one.) One of the nicest homes our family has stayed in! We enjoyed the park in Wear Valley and a picnic by the river as well as Dollywood, Island attractions, and the Alpine Sled - all nearby once you get down the 2.6 mile paved mountain road. A plus for us was 2 tables in the dining area so one was used for puzzles for all ages. Balconied with stunning views

Fun Family Reunion

This cabin delivers what it advertises…excellent views! It also delivered on providing plenty of space for our large family. We ate in for most meals, so a well appointed kitchen was a must…this cabin had what we needed. The kids really loved the game room and theater room…they were entertained and had fun. The beds were comfortable and the spaces we used were fairly clean. The owners were very responsive to any questions or needs. Overall, our family had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this cabin to a large group

Great place for a group stay

We were 7 book club women wanting a long weekend in the Smokies, and this cabin fit the bill exactly. We each had a separate bedroom, and lots of common area to chat in groups, or play a game at the big dining room table.Beautiful porches with chairs. Close enough to Pigeon Forge to go out to dinner, or just hunker down in the quiet. Bring an SUV for the steep drive. Not undriveable like some cabins, but a challenge unless you're used to it.Kitchen clean and fully stocked with pans, etc. Fridge already had ice made! Also an extra fridge on one of the floors. And everything worked! (Not usually the case with rental cabins).

Hello and welcome!
We are Carlos and Karolina Galvez, proud owners of Mountain Pause Retreat. Our story is a bit of a world tour: I am originally from Peru, Karolina is from Switzerland, and we first met on a Caribbean cruise. We later married in Alaska and eventually put down roots in Miami, Florida. Over the past 30 years, we’ve been blessed with three wonderful children—now grown—and the opportunity to travel across the globe, from the Peruvian Andes to the Swiss Alps.

Although we love the ocean (after all, that’s where our story began), the mountains have always held a special place in our hearts. When we first visited the Smoky Mountains, something clicked. Their quiet beauty and gentle ridgelines reminded each of us of home—of the landscapes that shaped our childhoods and our cultures.

From that moment, we dreamed of owning a cabin here. A place where our family and friends could gather, slow down, reconnect, and escape the demands of busy city life. That dream became Mountain Pause Retreat—a peaceful haven we are grateful to share with guests from around the world.

We hope that during your stay, you too can relax, unwind, and take a meaningful “pause” in this beautiful mountain setting.

Warmly,
Carlos & Karolina

Why they chose this property

Mountain Pause Retreat is truly one of the most beautiful cabins in the Smoky Mountains, and its views are nothing short of breathtaking. We fell in love with its spacious rooms, the wonderful resort amenities, and its perfect location—close enough to enjoy all the attractions of the nearby towns, yet far enough to fully relax, unwind, and take in the peaceful wilderness and serene beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains.

We treasure every moment we spend here with our family and friends, and when we’re not in town, we love being able to share this special place with guests from around the world. Our hope is that you experience the same joy, comfort, and connection that we do, and that your stay creates memories you will carry with you for years to come.

Welcome to Mountain Pause Retreat. We’re honored to host you.

What makes this property unique

Getting here is simple and stress-free, with an easy drive along the newly paved road and convenient access from either direction on US-321. The cabin is perfectly situated—close enough to enjoy all the action in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg, yet far enough to soak in the peacefulness, fresh mountain air, and surrounding wilderness.

The bright, welcoming rooms lift the spirit and create the perfect atmosphere to relax, recharge, and truly unwind. The back-entrance access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park—and to beautiful Cades Cove—is just minutes away, making outdoor adventures incredibly convenient.

You’ll also find plenty of grocery options along the way, or you can simply place an order in advance and have everything ready upon your arrival.
