About the property

Cabin, Studio + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps2-6)

Step back in time to this one-of-a-kind desert hideaway located on five private acres, with incredible views of the mountains and Joshua Tree National Park.

The bungalow is situated in among desert boulders and Joshua trees. The western entrance of the National Park is about two minutes away, or you can just walk up the wash and you will be inside the park boundaries. Some say the location is magical.

The Bungalow offers a unique and RUSTIC desert experience with all the comforts you require. Cuddle up in front of our wood-burning stove--we provide the wood--or go out to our great patio, complete with gas BBQ and a fire pit. Indoors, you'll enjoy cable TV, a large DVD movie library and a Bose CD player. Retire on a comfortable queen-size bed dressed in clean linens.

The Bungalow features a Keurig single cup coffee brewer with an assortment of coffees and hot chocolate. The kitchen is stocked with all the pots, pans, and utensils and spices you'll need to cook your meals, indoor or out.

You will be inspired by the beautiful 360-degree views while reconnecting with the essence of the natural world. The dawn skies and the evening sunsets are a photographer's delight. The days are typically sunny and the star-studded night skies are nothing less than magnificent. Astronomy buffs will find plentiful constellations and planets traveling across the evening skies.

The Bungalow is popular with our local wildlife, too. Throw out a little critter feed in the morning--also supplied--and you'll be visited by doves, quail, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits and more. You can walk the miles of desert trails or go rock climbing within walking distance of the Bungalow. After a long day of adventure, play a game of horseshoes or kick back on the patio with your favorite beverage. We've built an oasis in the desert with a funky vibe that is both peaceful and invigorating.

About Cary Ezell

I'm a contractor and decorative artist with many interests. I have a passion for collecting vintage road relics, which explains the vintage motel signs, old gas pumps and other yard art located on the property. I love exploring the desert and spending time with my family and friends.

Cary Ezell purchased this bungalow in 2003

Why Cary Ezell chose Joshua Tree

I have been visiting Joshua Tree ever since my youth and told myself that one day I would have my own desert hideout. I found this property just steps outside the park boundaries and fell in love with it. To be able to open the doors and feel and smell the desert breeze, to hear all the sounds of the birds and other creatures is peaceful. I'm very happy to be able to share with others the beauty and serenity of this desert oasis .

This is my second time to stay and I plan on even more! First, Cary is so easy to deal with.

So peaceful, beautiful, private. I didn't even bother going into the park because really everything you need is right there. It has a wonderful wash to discover with the rock Hill and it just felt so wonderful to be out with nature in a very private setting. It's like having your own Joshua tree park. Then the playground slide and Merry go round under the moon it's so much fun to play with. The whole ambience of this place is a charming combination of antiques, Zen and nature. The bottle house is absolutely fabulous and the whole setting is just so fascinating to wander around and explore. Cary is so VERY accommodating and helpful. You can just hear in his voice what a nice guy he is if you ever have the occasion to call him about anything regarding your stay.

Everything is very clean and well-maintained and it's a delight to open the vintage fridge and see all the vintage things in the cottage.

The stars at night and the neon signs add to the charm.

I will come back as often as possible because I love this place. I stayed here by myself and felt safe. Let me just say that showering outside in the soak tank during the summer is phenomenal. The bathroom inside is modern, clean and awesome, but there's something about cleaning off under the desert stars.

The AC worked great, but I feel like it cools off so quickly at night, I rarely used it. It was July. I actually stayed before in the winter. All seasons have delights.

So many cute critters like quail, bunnies, chipmunks and you can here Coyotes Howl sometimes from the foothills. They don't get close. Don't worry.

Close to EVERYTHING yet still out of the way. If you do go into the village, PIE FOR THE PEOPLE has the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Funky fun finds in the village and close to Pappy and Harriet's.

Love, love, love........

Incredible beauty all around can sit and watch the wildlife and light changing over the rocks.House full of character and retro artefacts that somehow sit v comfortably with the strangeness of the Joshua trees. Fire pit and stars unforgettable. Many many thanks!

A fantastic experience!

  • 5 of 5

Bungalow in the Boulders was a fabulous experience. A small cottage that has been carefully curated by its owner (vintage neon signs outdoors, interesting ephemera of 40's, 50's, possibly coolest refrigerator ever!) to create a unique, rustic desert experience. The cottage has plenty of tromping ground and feels quite on its own although there are neighbors around. (None too close, though.) The creatures around the cottage are one of its big charms. Every morning we got up early to feed them ( owner provided critter feed) and were rewarded with bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels, a Jack Rabbit siting, all sorts of birds and a spectacular sunrise. The cottage is quite close to the park entrance (one of three) and we spent a great week hiking and then retreating to the cottage for some r and r. The cottage is very close to Joshua Tree proper, and it's quite easy to run into town for a bite and a drink. We stayed in the main cottage, but there is a lovely bottle house and also a fab pink(!) vintage travel trailer for a crowd. It was chilly so we used the indoor cast iron stove, and it was quite cozy. There is also a fire pit outdoors. The cottage abounds with outdoor areas to sit and soak in the experience. We hope to be able to make the trek back to Joshua Tree again! Cary has created a very unique desert experience.
