It's A Great Dam View! LAKEFRONT Family-Friendly 4BR/3B Cottage at Lake Hartwell

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

We've lovingly restored our 1968 lakefront cottage and welcome you to experience the tranquility of our lake house in a quiet fishing cove. What sets our vacation rental apart are the long range views of the dam across deep water, which is why our listing is coined "Great Dam View". Because our cottage sits on a large grassy lot with very few houses in our cove, it makes for a wonderfully relaxing getaway where you truly feel as if you're away from it all.

With unbelievable lake views in almost every room of the home, the cottage features a romantic master bedroom with a fireplace, a large lakeside porch to snuggle in a hammock with a book, and a relaxing dock ready for fishing or laying in the sun. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the adirondack chairs on the front porch and see the sun rising over the Hartwell dam across the lake. Roast marshmallows around our stone fire pit with vintage lighting and comfortable chairs as you enjoy the lake view.

Here are our bedding/bathroom arrangements:

Main house:

Master - Queen bed

Guest Room 1 - Full bed

Guest Room 2 - Two twin beds

1 Master bathroom and 1 Guest bathroom

*Optional add-on for an additional $300 per stay - Garage Bunkhouse with 4 twin beds, 1 full sized futon, and 1 full bathroom

Rent a boat from Portman Marina and tour around Lake Hartwell or take a long cruise and catch the cheers of a football game at Clemson University with its lakeside stadium (about 45 minutes away). We also love cruising to dinner at a lovely local restaurant called the Galley in Anderson, SC (about 20 minutes away by boat). If you own a boat, easily drop it in the water at the public ramp only one street away and use our covered boat slip at our private dock. Fishing is plentiful at Hartwell and our guests frequently comment on their success in our large, quiet cove. We recently had a family visit who told us their son was so proud of his first catch ever - a five pound catfish!

The Cottage is full of memories from guests playing on the lake, building fires, and running outdoors with the big grassy yard and plenty of yard games. Enjoy the horseshoe pit, ladderball, cornhole, giant Jenga, and the one-man kayak.

After a day on the water, relax in the open concept living room and kitchen with a wall full of windows showcasing expansive lake views. Cozy up in our comfy couches in the living room with cable tv, a replica Atari videogame, or a family board game. With a dining table and a humble kitchen you won't have to leave, but downtown Hartwell is a 5 minute drive away and offers wonderful restaurants with a nostalgic "Main Street" feel. Here you'll find a mix of antique shops, great local cooking, and seasonal events in the downtown square.

The master bedroom offers a plush queen bed with an amazing lake view and a wood-burning fireplace. In the morning brew a pot of coffee and enjoy it in bed as you watch the stunning sunrise over the lake. There are blackout curtains on the windows if you prefer to sleep in and maybe even start a morning fire in the fireplace. Some mornings we enjoy opening the French doors off the master bedroom and eating breakfast at the picnic table on the front porch, quietly enjoying the view. The guest room also has french doors with a lake view and blackout curtains and has a full size bed. The remaining bedroom offers two twin sized beds with soft Pottery Barn bedding.

We also have a garage bunkhouse that is only available to guests renting the cottage. If you're interested in renting the bunk house for an additional $300 per stay (this fee covers the air conditioning and another housekeeper), we'll give you a separate code for the door. It features four twin sized beds, one full sized futon, and an en suite bathroom with stand up shower. You'll also have your own Keurig coffee maker in the garage apartment (just bring your own k-cups). The view from the expansive lakeside window is amazing!! Please keep in mind that this room is above the garage, and the steps are quite steep. The steps would not be suitable for toddlers or those with any difficulty walking. Just let us know if you'd like to rent the bunkhouse and we'll send you an additional payment request for the $300 fee.

We have guests from all over the North and Southeast looking for a restful spot on the water for their families, or for a peaceful night's sleep during work travels. Our home is also centrally located for college visits to Clemson, UGA, University of North Georgia, and Furman University.

We poured our heart and soul into the renovations, and while we still have Pinterest boards full of inspirational photos for future projects, we love the way it turned out. Coming to the lake cottage allows us the chance to escape from our crazy schedules and to take a moment to just relax. Surrounded by vintage furnishings and rustic beauty, we find it easy to lose track of time and soak in the family memories together.

This home is very special to us, and we are so excited to share it with you!

About Jordan & Ryan

We purchased the property as a way to unwind after a busy week at our full time jobs. Time seems to pass by slowly at the Cottage, and we enjoy soaking up the lake memories with our family. The Cottage is a rustic home that we have poured our hearts into renovating. The Cottage isn't the Ritz-Carlton, but there's something wonderfully romantic and charming about it that leaves the soul so satisfied!

Why Jordan & Ryan chose Hartwell

The lot sold us from the minute we stepped onto the property. We knew we'd be doing some renovating, but you can't find lakefront lots like this one. While we do have neighbors, you won't notice they're there. Our lot feels so long and wide that we truly have a spot on the lake that's our own. There are no homes across the cove from us, and we can sit on our front porch without noticing any other activity from other homeowners. The view is absolutely amazing!

Most Relaxing Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to stay near home this vacation, and rent a lake house. After considering Lanier (again), we decided to look at Lake Hartwell, for a little more peace and relaxation. The decision was exactly perfect. Hartwell is a giant lake, good for exploring, and plenty of things to do, but extremely quiet. We never saw more than 10 boats on the water (at one time) in peak season! The cottage is very comfortable, extremely clean, and upscale, but simple and relaxing. The big porch has hammocks and Adirondack chairs, which are a perfect place to watch the sun rise over the lake. We took drinks down to the dock and the kids played in the water and caught fish every day. We mountain biked at nearby Payne's Creek Park (awesome medium-challenging trail), we boated up to Clemson, took a hike on Ghost (Cemetery) lsand (look it up), and boated right up to the Galley Restaurant and had dinner. We even had some friends boat down and spend some time with us at the cottage. Restaurants that we tried in town were great. There were so many things to do, that I felt like I had to do it all, but the best was to just relax and forget about work, while the kids played in the water.

We didn't get to use the fire pit, because it was a hot week. We will definitely be back. There are good vacations, but when 3 young kids ask when we get to come back, you know you found a great spot!

An amazing family vacation-the porch and the lake were our favorites!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for a family getaway. The house was comfy and cozy. The dock and the deep water was great for swimming and fishing. We cooked in every night and enjoyed the fire pit on numerous occasions. Thank you to Jordan and Ryan for allowing us to be the first people to use the cute garage apartment. It allowed all family members to be comfortable with lots of space. And the view, enough said!!!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about your adorable cottage! Personally, I could have stayed in the hammock on the porch forever, relaxing and enjoying that gorgeous view. The interior of the home was great--comfortable beds, very clean, and had everything we needed--but most of our time was spent outdoors... floating in the lake for hours, jumping off the dock, kayaking, playing yard games, reading in the hammocks, grilling out, and toasting marshmallows in the AWESOME fire pit. We took a trip to the nearby town of Hartwell and followed the walking tour of the downtown shops and restaurants, did the dam walk, and stopped for ice cream. The rest of our vacation was happily spent at the cottage. Wonderful memories made with our two teenaged daughters. Hope to return!
