Fabulous Lake Setting With Three Bedrooms, Loft Room And Two Bunks-Ski Out Too

Serene Woods {Lake front & backs to Royal Gorge}

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, these beautiful lakes used to supply ice for the local railroad. These conjoined-twin alpine ponds - supposedly named Serena and Dulzura by none other than Mark Twain -is a special environment where cabins and grand chalets surround the lakes. In 2005, after a consortium bought Royal Gorge and proposed to develop 3,000 acres around the lakes with condos, hotels, artificial lakes and home sites, residents launched the Save Donner Summit campaign to preserve the area for the future.

This updated and renovated cabin offers a cozy and comfortable vacation spot to maximize both summer and winter recreation and relaxation. The well-appointed home features Ralph Lauren linens and vintage wool blankets to complete the look and feel of an old school lodge. Serene Woods is located in an optimal location in Serene Lakes with the best of both worlds featuring lake front as well as backing to the forest with no back neighbors. Three ski resorts are within 5 minutes to 15 minutes.

A sunny deck overlooking Long Lake features a bbq and seating for entertaining---Long Lake can been seen from the kitchen, dining and upper great room. Back door opens up to one of the trails at Royal Gorge [the largest cross country ski resort in the US] as well as adjacent to the Tahoe Donner Land Trust for additional hiking, mountain biking and ATV activities.

Serene Woods sleeps 10 people. One king bed, three queen beds and two bunks. Additional sleeping options feature a portable crib/toddler bed (under bed upstairs). Two and half baths allow for additional convenience. For your comfort each room has feather duvet covers, electric blanket as well as a wall heater so that each person can personally adjust their level of heat.

Kitchen is updated with all modern amenities. Lots of hooks, storage and closets to store your clothes and vacation supplies during your stay. Laundry room available as well. Two separate great rooms (one upstairs and one downstairs) with lots of seating and televisions in both rooms.

Home equipped with high speed internet, Cable, land line, SmartTVs, DVD players and mp3/ipod docking stations. Cabin features more than two dozen board games, chess, checkers, and backgammon as well as over 20 puzzles.

After staying at Serene Woods, you will be planning your return trip for the best of mountain living.

About Kim Crum

As an active family with a wide range of ages we have invested in a property that is as multi-facet as our family. With an active family that enjoys the outdoors we found the prefect home that allows everyone to find something they have a passion for; we have a cross country skier, a downhill skier and a snow boarder and Serene Woods allows each of those interests to exist in just one spot!

Kim Crum purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Kim Crum chose World

We wanted the seclusion Serene Lakes offers as well as close proximity to shopping, dining, golf, gambling but situated in the middle of skiing central as well as some of the best hiking, biking and water sports. Really the best of both worlds. Donner Summit has a rich history from Kit Carson exploring and scouting the area, the infamous Donner Party to the gold rush days and the early start of transportation across the snowy roads. This area is still pristine and a non commercial outlet for family fun! We couldn't resist these incredible assets and attributes when we found the most beautiful and perfect Cabin!

If you come home as happy as you leave, you have had a good vacation. -Unknown

What makes this cabin unique

Serene Woods is the epitome of "location, location, location." Lake out the front door, cross country ski trail and hiking trail out the back door. You could technically do adventures and outdoor activities without getting into your vehicle.

Serene Lakes, a time warp of a Sierra mountain resort in the backyard of Donner Summit's Royal Gorge ski area, is what South Lake Tahoe used to be like when I was a kid (back in the days of Coppertone tans and cut-offs). It is a special area that is hidden from view and off the beaten path. A place to escape the hustle bustle yet with the perfectly situated to all the Sierra Nevada activities and the unique community of Truckee for food, shopping and arts.

Comfortable vacation home

  • 4 of 5

The house is not lake front but across the street from the lake. It does not have a canoe or a kayak as advertised.

Wonderful weekend on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a fantastic weekend hiking, kayaking and canoeing at Kims house. The house was clean and had a great layout for our group. Beds were comfy and kitchen came well stocked for cooking family style meals. The grill is great for bbqs, and we spent time relaxing out on the deck. The bugs can get pesky in the early evenings- unfortunately all (5?) citronella candles wicks were to low to light. So make sure you have bug spray if you come in summer. The upstairs rooms can get a bit hot/stuffy - it helps to open the windows or turn on the fan early in the evening. We took hikes out the back door and the lake is just steps away. Overall a wonderful relaxing stay that I would highly recommend. Hope to return again. Thanks Kim!

Amazing Time!!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the cabin for a long weekend - everything was great!!

Very nicely maintained cabin, with everything you need to enjoy yourself.

We had five couples and still had plenty of room. Spent our days kayaking on the lake and our evenings on the deck. Gas BBQ had plenty of space for our dinners

The area is very safe with little traffic and the road is level for jogging or bicycling.

Where do you live?

Great time with small children and great owner

  • 5 of 5

We love visiting the area as Soda Springs is the perfect ski resort for small children and those learning. This winters massive snow fall left 15' plus high snow build up around homes and roads. From all the snow pile up, the homes propane tank had problems on Saturday but the owner (Kim) via phone/text worked with snow removal and propane company all day to find a solution and get things functioning again. Very fast, proactive action. Thank you Kim!

Weekend trip

  • 3 of 5

The house was in excellent condition and set-up to stay in. There seemed to be the odor of a dog which exacerbated one of our family member's asthma and allergies. The deck was unusable as it was not shoveled and was full of snow. There was plenty of room to sleep.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. This is a "no pet" and "no smoking" vacation rental. I am concerned if the dog smell is present since renters are not allowed to bring pets. I have the house professionally cleaned and asked my cleaner if there was any evidence of pets when she cleaned two days before your arrival; she stated there was no smells or pets. She is cleaning today and will see if there is a pet smell. However, if there was not a smell last week there should not be one this week. I am concerned by this issue. Regarding the snow on the deck; Serene Lakes has experienced record breaking snow levels (the highest in recorded history) and there is no way to keep the snow at bay. In fact, you will notice that the County is limited in where they can place the snow from plowing streets. Very sorry about this issue but cannot control Mother Nature's blessings this year of snow, snow and snow. We will appreciate this fact when we are all skiing in June.
