About Ted Deucher
In raising our two kids in Virginia, it was natural for us to go to the Outer Banks to enjoy the ocean and some of the best beaches in the world! Over the years we talked about the possibility of getting a place of our own in the Outer Banks, and eventually we were able to make it happen.
Ted Deucher purchased this House in 2005
Why Ted Deucher chose Dare County
We looked at many properties in the area, but kept coming back to Duck. There was something special in Duck. As a real estate friend told us upon asking him what made Duck unique, he said, in all seriousness, "because Duck is Duck!" What that meant to us is that Duck offers all the benefits of a beach vacation getaway, along with a sense of community and civic pride, in addition to parks, shopping, dining and night spots.
What makes this House unique
The most appealing quality of our home is its proximity to the beach - it is literally just a few steps from the front door. In addition, the crow's nest offers a wonderful spot to savor morning coffee and watch the breakers roll in, or enjoy a sunset over the sound. Pool and hot tub provide just about all you might need, and the house is comfortable and easy to live in.

Large house with ocean view; pool; takes dogs
Just steps to the wide and lovely beach, this house is quite large - with a number of bedrooms and two separate sitting areas and two large decks. Although only two of us (and our dog) stayed there, it would be ideal for families. It was too cool to use the pool (late April/early May), but we did use the hot tub, which was nice. The pool is a good size and it would be a nice luxury to use it in the summer. The idea of floating in the pool at night looking at the stars (the night sky is beautiful there) is an enticing one. The house has a well stocked kitchen. (However, be sure to bring your own trash bags, dish soap, etc.) It was great to have our dog with us. She liked the carpeted steps as she is getting older and her legs are weak. Communication about the rental was good. The location is a short distance north of the town of Duck, so it was easy to drive to restaurants, etc.
A perfect first stay in OBX
The only thing I'd change about our first visit to Duck would be to increase the temperature by about 10 degrees. :) We were met with some unseasonably cooler temps, but the sun was out, and the location of Wild Duck Dunes was ideal. This house accommodated our family perfectly. We loved hanging out on the deck, playing in the game room, and the view from the Crow's Nest was a real treat. Again, the location of this house is ideal for many day trips on different parts of the island, but it's quiet enough to feel like a real retreat. The beach is magnificent, found some beautiful shells. The hot tub was great, too!
Tons of space and very responsive!
There are so many bathrooms! Place was clean upon arrival and Ted was extremely responsive, honest and attentive. We had a lovely stay! Would definitely recommend :)
Not enough stars
My family and friends of 9 stayed Oct 8-14, 2017. The space was more than ample for everyone with room to spare. The kitchen was fully ready to handle our crew for a full week of cooking and the entire home was clean and tidy. My family loved all of the amenities including the pool, Jacuzzi, crows nest, and short walk to the beach. All people involved with owning and keeping this location were extremely available and kind. My family and I have found a new tradition.
Everything we needed and more
We stayed from 9/24/17 to 9/30/2017.
Came to celebrate our 10 years wedding anniversary and my parents’ 40 years wedding anniversary. The house is comfortable and cozy. It is so close to the beach. More rooms and beds than we needed!
Our daughter loved the pool even though there were days it was too cold, but she still touched it out.
We experienced some strong winds and rain due to the tropical storm. The owner called me during our stay to make sure we were aware of the storm and that we would be alright. I really appreciated the extra care by the owners. Definitely a better experience than the ones we had with the rental companies in the area. Thank you Mrs. & Mr.Deucher!
Great location, met all our needs, porches and crows nest need some TLC
We had a wonderful time in Duck, a little disappointed that the beach was being worked on while we were there and didn't have close beach access for a few days. Overall, relaxing trip and great location and beach work should be complete by July
Thanks for the comments. Yes, we were also a little disappointed to find out that the long-awaited beach nourishment program actually took place during the busy summer season! But it is done now, and has certainly made a wonderful improvement to an already excellent beach.
Also, we had, in fact, already scheduled the deck and crow's nest for some regular maintenance, but with the onset of the busy season, we just haven't had the available time to finish it yet. It will be done in the fall.
