About the property

Introducing "A River Runs Through It" - a spectacular 6 bedroom property that sleeps up to 14 guests located in the foothills of the Chattahoochee National Forest. A stay at this 4,000 square foot lodge will be the most unique and amazing experience of your life!

The home is situated in a private setting and is built over a scenic mountain stream (Think of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater House on a smaller scale). Constructed in 1960, this property holds a lot of historic value, from the 100 year old water wheel which greets you as you pull up the driveway to the walls and ceilings built with wood from old buildings being torn down in the mid 1900's (black walnut, cherry, ash, and cedar).

This mountain getaway has been completely remodeled and features upscale furnishings. A list of the amenities and bedroom configurations are as follows:

* 2nd Family room is located over the creek and features 2 fireplaces, leather couches, sliding glass doors leading onto a viewing deck and a rear deck, pool table, and a 62" HDTV with DVD, and brand new frieze carpet.

* Spacious, gourmet kitchen with slab granite counters, new hickory cabinets, new hardwood floors and new stainless steel appliances

* Kitchen breakfast bar area seats up to 4 and designer round teak dining table seats up to 8 guests

* Screened porch with new wrought iron patio furnishings

* 6 person hot tub that overlooks creek

* 3 full bathrooms with travertine tile, red cedar walls & ceilings, glass block windows, new vanities & lighting

* 2 decks with patio furniture and patio grilling area with gas BBQ

* Fire pit next to the creek

About The Owner

My husband and I are both realtors and we live in the suburbs of Atlanta. We have 2 kids in elementary school.

The Owner purchased this lodge in 2006

Why The Owner chose Northwest High Country

We chose to buy in Ellijay because of how close it is to Atlanta and our home. We wanted a vacation home in the mountains to be able to escape to have a peaceful, relaxing weekend. This house captured us from the moment we first saw it. My husband spent over 3 months living here as he remodeled it.

What makes this lodge unique

Sometimes we visit with just ourselves...the kids will play in the creek all day as my husband and I sit under the shade of the pine trees in the front yard. We like to invite family and friends, and the home is so big we never feel cramped or crowded. Most of our guests are families/friends with children and many of them bring grandparents. Our home is very suitable for those who can't walk up or down stairs. All the living spaces are on the main level and there is only one small step down as you walk in the front door. Plus, there is a bed/bath on the main perfect for this type of guest. We just think the home is so unique and special with the water flowing underneath! It's a different experience, and we are glad to share it with our guests!

Realxing, with something for everyone!

  • 5 of 5

Eleven family members, ranging from ages 4 to 62, fit comfortably into this beautiful home! The younger members LOVED playing in the creek and exploring and hiking. The pool table and hot tub were a huge hit and the dining table was large enough for the all the adults to play games around in the evening. Everyone went tubing and sightseeing, and some played golf. As sited above - something for everyone. We have done this family vacation several times in the past and this home was rated 'THE BEST'! We would definately return to this home again!

Wonderful mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 was very comfortable. The large living areas allow everyone to spend time together, but also have a quiet place to read a book alone. Both adults and kids enjoyed playing in the stream and the hot tub. There is a nice fire pit for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. The kitchen was surprisingly well equipped. It's hard to capture it all with pictures. It was even better than we hoped in person. Brittany was very responsive and helpful throughout. We highly recommend staying here for your family vacation!

Our Family Loved This Place!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a four night stay with my family. The website pictures of this place don't do enough to describe this idyllic place for a family. There were 12 of us, including a baby, and everyone had a comfortable bed and plenty of room to spread out. The huge den, with a giant screen tv and pool table was the favorite hang out spot. But the kids also used the smaller den as well. The large dining table and bar could accommodate all of us for dinner when we ate in.

But the real draw of this place is the outside. Everyone went wading particularly up the stream behind the house. Old and young alike had a blast. We used the porches, the swing, the grill, the fire pit, and explored all the grounds. I had a photographer come up on Sunday evening for some family pictures and she fell in love with the place. There were so many perfect spots for the pictures and my personal favorite was on and in front of the huge water wheel.

The owners do a great job of communicating and making sure the house is "move in ready" upon arrival. We'll definitely return.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This home is everything you could ask for! Spacious, beautufully furnished, and in an idyllic setting. Beautiful rushing creek running under the middle of the house. Balconies on both sides of the house that overlook the creek. A bridge over the creek, a quaint double swing beside it as well as a wonderful firepit and chairs that made for fabulous evenings. We stayed the week of June 3. I'd go back every year if I could!

Another wonderful family mountain retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying at this amazing home! We were not sure if staying at the same place again would be as fun for the grandchildren - but they were so excited when they arrived, they ran upstairs to see "their" room! It was perfect for our large family as the older kids had a room, and the baby had a room connected to their parents. The kids loved playing in the creek this year (they came prepared with boots!), their parents enjoyed visiting nearby Cartecay Vineyards. Since we were past the apple 'season', the local apple orchards did not have any kids activities, but we visited the Noah's Ark Animal Rescue, which the kids loved. It's amazing to find a mountain home with enough level ground for kids to run and play, and enough room inside for the kids to play, and the adults to watch football! The Owner is very responsive to emails, and to provide any information you ask for. If you are looking for an amazing place to enjoy the north Georgia mountains with your family, this is the place. Our family hopes A River Runs Through It will become a Fall tradition!

Beautiful unique home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this truly unique setting. The views of the water right out of the living areas and every bedroom were unbelievable. Sitting on the balcony and in the hot tub right over the river was very relaxing. Everything was updated beautifully, while keeping so much of the historic character of the home. It was also very clean and well-stocked.

The owner was very accessible and helpful when we had a minor unavoidable issue after an area power outage. She kept us updated and was in contact to make sure everything was as it should be at the house.

We had tons of rain while we were there, but we were very happy to stay in and play pool, play games and watch TV because it was so comfortable. We would love to come back when it is warm and play in the water.
