Half Baths1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

** Fall availability October 2017 , flexible start and stop, minimum 4 days.**

Lakefront hand crafted cabin on the shores of Lake Michigan, a peaceful retreat built by artist/teachers in a natural setting, 3/4 mile south of Cross Village, north of Harbor Springs on the 'Tunnel of Trees' Lakeshore Drive, on a short winding drive off the main road.

Enjoy a relaxing, carefree, back-to-nature vacation on the big lake, lakeside dining, bright starlit nights, wake to the soothing sound of waves lapping on the shore. Ideal for naturalists, cyclists, families, couples, or you and a few friends.

Enjoy summer play on the lake. Unwind and relax where cellphones barely work and sunsets are the daily attraction. Beachwalk several miles of open beach in either direction. Ideal for catching up on reading, writing, sunrise yoga, cycling back roads. Walk, bike or canoe to the village, bring your own windsurfer, kayak or small sailboat (rentals nearby). Sandy public beaches with small boat launch in Cross Village and Sturgeon Bay.

Complete kitchen for cooking, or dine out or carry-out in Cross Village at famous Legs Inn (plus music and dancing on weekends), or nearby, The Fish, Levering Cafe, the Tearoom and Crepe Shack in Good Hart. Cross Village also is home to the Cross Village General Store and a friendly little post office, Three Pines Studio and art gallery, who offer workshops just right for a week long vacation.

Explore Wilderness State Park a short drive up the shore. Nearby day excursions by ferry to Mackinac Island and Beaver Island. Enjoy a lighthouse tour by boat. Golf, tennis, performing arts, shopping, dining, in Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Cheboygan, and Mackinaw City.

Quote from a visitor: 'What I love about your vacation home is the location in the Tunnel of Trees, no steps down to the beach (wonderful for my mother and grandchildren), and the lovely, artistic and beautiful job you have done on the place.

New in 2017, we now have wifi....

Why D R McPharlin chose Northwest

This land has been in our family for multiple generations. The rental property is a cabin that was built on a portion of the original parcel. It is owned by 'the kids' now, all of whom grew up summering on the lake. Thirty acres above the waterfront property were donated to the Little Traverse Conservancy. Over three acres are retained as part of the waterfront home, with a conservation easement. We have opened the cabin for paid guests, during weeks when the family is not using it. We are pleased to be able to share our piece of heaven with others.

What makes this cabin unique

Just being down here on the big lake is a peaceful and refreshing experience. After a few days, you can feel yourself unwind and feel at home. Being close to the lake, the weather and wildlife is good for the soul. The sun doesn't always shine. Sometimes there are storms. They are wild and beautiful. Being close to the variety of weather is all part of the experience. The original artwork was created by family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Got back last night and missed the cottage already. I managed to paint every day and had a wonderful relaxing reflective time. ...will be in touch about booking my next stay.

Peaceful and Private

This was our second time staying at this wonderful cottage! The home is rustic yet very comfortable with artistic touches that make for a cozy and restorative atmosphere. The view of Lake Michigan was perfect and the beach was clean and inviting. We will return!

Absolutely Charming

  • 4 of 5

Our family loved our stay at Agamiing Minwendam. The cottage is so cozy and quaint and quiet. It is old so a bit rustic but very clean and everything worked. Absolutely no problems. The beach is awesome as well. Short trip to Mackinac or Harbor Springs. We could walk to Legs Inn. Pictures are all accurate. I look forward to returning to this fabulous getaway.

Lovely peaceful week

  • 5 of 5

Relaxing stay between Lake Michigan and northern Michigan woods and trails. Much nostalgia as we revisited restaurants, shopping areas and childhood friends. Many new experiences to share with my family in the future.

Idyllic cabin on the lake

  • 5 of 5

We walked in the door and felt immediately at home. This place is just short of perfect! We enjoyed the solitude of the woods while being steps from the beach. What a wonderful time of year to visit with the forests blanketed in white trilliums and the spring peepers chirping all night long. Good central location to visit wineries, Mackinack Island, and cute little resort towns that were sleepy in early May. If you're a beach comber the abundance of fossils is absolutely staggering. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a bit further than we thought but well worth the drive.

The cabin itself is clean, cozy, and well appointed with all one would need and the views from the two lake facing bedrooms is amazing! Plenty of videos to watch and really didn't care that we didn't have wifi as we could drive into nearby Harbor Springs if we needed a dose of civilization. I only really missed it when I thought storms were moving in and couldn't check the radar. We absolutely would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed it so much! We are installing wifi this week and hope the reception works well. Because we are situated right down on the shore, the Big Lake and awesome sunsets are the main attraction, it is a challenge to have wifi work. Fingers crossed !

Wonderful Getaway Week

  • 5 of 5

For the past four years we have taken our granddaughters on a vacation up north. This year we chose to stay at this cottage right on Lake Michigan. We had a wonderful time. The girls could swim right out in front of the cottage, build a sandcastle village, and play lots of games at night. The owner was very helpful and welcoming. We found lots of things to do in the area. We especially liked the Three Pines Studio, the Old World Cafe, and the crepes at Good Hart. When we asked the girls if they wanted to come back here next summer, they each answered immediately with a big smile and an enthusiastic "Yes!" Thank you Diane!
