Woodstock Historic Artist Estate - The Carriage House

Acclaimed social realist painter Reginald Marsh's family estate is known to be unique for Woodstock with its ball shaped junipers, a pond that brackets the house, expansive lawns, a gathering of birches and 100 year old cone shaped cedar trees. Today the former Carriage House of the picturesque estate is an architect-renovated gem in an idyllic setting bordering a public preserve, a short walking distance to the center of Woodstock.

There are three houses next to each other, the Carriage House, the owner occupied Manor House and the Pond House, facing away from each other ensuring privacy. No other house is visible from inside the Carriage House with its own designated back yard facing the stream and waterfall. The 800 sft Carriage House, featured as a Freshgrub unique property, is ideal for a family of 4. The master bedroom with a king size bed is adjacent to the bathroom and the kids room with a low full size bed that extends to a queen size. Travel crib, toys, books, high chair, baby tub are provided.

The house comes with central A/C and heat, the contemporary kitchen is open to the dining/living room and comes fully equipped with premium appliances and amenities and expands to a private terrace with an outdoor charcoal grill and outdoor dining area. The swim hole and waterfall are shared with the Pond House and Manor House, with other swim holes a short stroll through the woods away. An outdoor day bed overviews the legendary Indian Head mountain ridge. The parking area comes with an electric car port.

Woodstock is an historically aspirational location with a variety of farm-to- table restaurants, eclectic bars and artisan shops. Upon request we offer professional resources from childcare and house keeping services to a private chef and a massage therapist. The estate is a within a 40 minute driving distance to major New York skiing destinations Belleayre Mountain, Hunter Mountain and Windham Mountain.

Enjoyed the warm fire that greeted us when we arrived as it was snowing out! We were very attracted by the kitchen - and by this picture. It would be good if they had the manual for the oven in a drawer or somewhere. I didn't understand what the buttons meant from the icons, and because of poor lighting in the corner where the oven is, it was very hard to see them. That's just a small point. The one thing I suggest they must do is fix the missing slat in the shade, or replace the shade altogether, that covers the window next to the bathtub/shower. When you stand up, the missing slat is just about waste high. I also noted the fire detector in the bedroom was missing though the casing was still there.

Lovely Marshmeadow

Fit our needs with an 80 lb dog.. Kitchen perfect with all anyone could need. Not enough storage space for luggage and folded clothing. Grounds spectacular. Enjoyed the tranquility, enjoyed proximity to town.

Serene cottage

This cottage was more than what we hoped for! It was beautiful and comfortable. The outside area was stunning! My granddaughter loved throwing rocks in the creek. It was a short walk into town. One of the best features was we were able to enjoy the company of Arthur and Nin’s dog, Winston! This was a getaway for my daughter’s birthday. She said it was one of the best birthdays yet! We can’t wait to return!

What a wonderful stay! I’ve found that in upstate New York, the first two weeks of August are the best as far as weather. That’s why I chose to stay one of those weeks at this property. It is an absolute delight. Overall, the space is cozy but not cramped. Ample space for two people (friends using the two bedrooms), and for a family with children it would be excellent as well. The furnishings are comfortable, the kitchen is very easy and complete, and it is clearly set up for year round use. The water is very soft…be prepared for that, perhaps bring an air freshener for the bathroom because it can be a little “odiferous” in the morning, but that’s a minor issue. There’s a great deep bath with a shower that is very easy to use. What is most magnificent about this property is the setting. It is a little slice of heaven! The owners are clearly focused on their property, its proximity to the small creek behind the house, and the expanse of property in front of the house. The landscaping is beautiful, and the entire property is carefully and sensitively tended. The views are fantastic, and the creek is immediately accessible for cooling off. The rocks are slippery so best to go in pairs (in case one needs help). The water is clear and cool, and the little waterfall is visually and sonically beautiful. The locations allows easy and quick access to the town of Woodstock. We also visited Kingston, Rhinebeck, and Hudson which are all 30-40 minute drives.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Tranquil and beautiful private getaway with full stream access on Brook and only minutes from town!

The owners of this property were kind and welcoming. The house was well appointed with most kitchen and bathroom goods one might need. The place was immaculately cleaned as promised due to the COVID-19 health concerns. The decor of this house Is chic and interesting. Great collection of books. Bring a stepstool for the shower/bathtub. Other than that, this place was perfect for both a romantic and social time get away from city life!

Lovely romantic getaway close to Woodstock

The place was clean and very cozy. Nin was super responsive to all our questions and it was great when she passed by to make sure that everything was to our liking. We will definitely come back. The fireplace is a great addition to the feeling of place and there was plenty of firewood provided. I would definitely recommend the place.

Elegant, artistic and quiet.

Very private and beautiful. The land is exquisite. The apartment is elegant, artistic and perfect for couples or a small family. We enjoyed making meals together in the kitchen and having fires in the wood burning stove and watching the wildlife. The owner was lovely and attentive if/when necessary but otherwise we had all the privacy we could ask for. It was a quick drive into town (less than 10mintues from driveway to parking), the area is INCREDIBLE. This was truly a memerable and special place. Enchanting is not an over sell, I wouldn’t miss it if I were you.

Wonderful Woodstock Vacation

We had a wonderful stay here for the month of July 2017. This is a charming house in a stunning location. What was particularly nice for us was the splendid country walking right from the door. Woodstock is an easy 15 minute walk along a quiet road or, better yet, cross the stream that abuts the property and hike the trail into town. The house was well equipped and comfortable. We had occasional guests come up from the city for a stay and all had a great time. We hope to return.

Great location and wonderful cottage

The cottage was awesome and walking distance to town. The owners/landlords were fantastic. We stayed there for 4 weeks which was longer than we usually stay in one spot.. The living space is much smaller than we are used to and a month was just a bit to long. A weekend or a week to 10 days would be perfect! There is so much to do in the area, including shopping, eating out, hiking and more. We would definitely return but maybe for a week next time.

Cozy cottage in an amazing location!

My husband, two small children and I really enjoyed our stay at this lovely, cozy cottage! The owner was very responsive and helpful, and the location can't be beat. The creek runs right through the backyard making it the perfect place to enjoy the natural beauty of Woodstock. Even though the weather was cooler when we visited in the spring, we had lots of fun playing games on the lawn, throwing pebbles in the creek and playing with the sand next to the creek. It's also very short drive from Woodstock making for an easy trip to restaurants, stores and the local playground. The only downside for us was the lack of a washer/dryer in the house (given our messy children!) but the rustic charm of the cottage more than makes up for this slight inconvenience.

It could not have a better location..

We only had two night and would have loved to have stayed longer. The property is only minutes from restaurants and the heart of town. It's located on a beautiful active stream and the Comeau Trail....just spent an after noon enjoying the property. The apartment is warm and comfortable. I will return.

Charming cottage, beautiful property

My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay at this property. The cottage is located next to the owner's house, but we felt like we had lots of privacy as the property is quite large. Nin (the owner) is very sweet and accommodating. A lovely stream runs right below the house and it's the perfect place to sunbathe or have a picnic. The cottage itself is fully renovated and modern, very cool style!!! The cottage is just a 3 minute drive/ 15 minute walk away from Woodstock's charming little main street. Great spot for a getaway in a town that has lots of charm and great restaurants!

Beautiful and peaceful place

What a beautiful, immaculately maintained place and what great hosts and neighbors! More than sufficient for a couple with a three year old toddler, in December. We cooked and cooked and did not miss the microwave. Delightful kitchen to work in. Charcoal grill outside is ready to go with a chimney to start a fire. My son and I, both learnt how to use a wood stove; perfect place for fire safety reinforcement for a toddler. Divine views of the outside and even in 24 degrees so many things to do outside, on the property, let alone the potential of exploring the outdoor with a car/walk. Plenty of room for young children to run. It is a water property and with reasonable supervision, it is fun all around. All this when it was "cold" and there were no leaves on the trees, cant imagine what this place will be in other seasons! We did not spend too much time exploring the town but it was great whatever times we did go.

We had a wonderful time here.

The cottage is a wonderful place to stay--comfortable, lovely and well equipped. The big window overlooking the lawn and the waterfall is like bird (and chipmunk) tv--so many birds to watch! The waterfall and the stream are really nice to sit and watch or cool off in, and we had a good time walking the trails around the house. Beds were comfortable and it was lovely to fall asleep listening to the sound of the stream; bathroom was great with a really big tub. We cooked some meals in the house (the grill could use a little update) and ate some in town and enjoyed them all. Nin was available and helpful, and a really nice host. We'd love to visit again.

The secluded 6.5 acres with a large pond is crossed by the Woodstock Sawkill/Millstream with a waterfall bordering the ‘Comeau Property’, a 75 acre preserve with walking trails to town. The estate’s historic buildings dating back to the 18th century mix with contemporary architecture on the thoughtfully landscaped secluded property close to the historic town of Woodstock with numerous farm-to-table restaurants, artisan boutiques, local bakeries, vegan ice-cream shops, galleries, organic supermarkets and farm stands, cocktail bars, and its renown music scene.
