Nice Location; House Needs a Bit of Work

We arrived at the gate to the property based on Google Maps, so no worries there (the instructions said to be wary of navigation directions). The key to the gate lock was easy to get, and we kept it with us the whole time even though it wasn’t clear that’s what we should do. There were no issues getting in the house. The accommodations were adequate for us (4 guests) and we didn’t need to access the basement. There was one small wedge of fire starter and no kindling inside, but there was sufficient paper and we found a short length of 2x6 in the wood pile outside under the front steps, so we chopped that up with the hatchet provided and that enabled us to have more than one fire. The instructions for the wood burning stove were very well written. We had a successful fire each day and careful use of the damper conserved firewood. The only issue with the wood is the access. There are large rocks in front of the woodpile under the front steps, and it was hard on the ankles to walk over them to get to the wood while at the same time bending over to get under the porch. There was a nice dense piece of wood to use as a chopping block to split the wood. There was another woodpile under the back deck, but there were signs and caution tape and a sign to stay away from that area, but it wasn’t clear what the danger was other than to not walk under the eaves. Ominous and mysterious, so we stayed away just in case. We rated low in cleanliness because the fans and vents were dirty.

Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for the feedback (you say "house needs work" but only mention issues accessing wood?). We will be sure to follow up with the owner on how he set up the wood supply to ensure future guests have easier access, and housekeeping should have also left a full rack by the fireplace for you. Otherwise, we're glad you enjoyed your stay! If you decide to come back with a larger group, just book the entire lodge for access to the basement (we created this listing for the top two floors only to make it more affordable for smaller groups like yours).
