This unique renovated 1924 home was built by the Governor of Alabama as his summer residence. This historic 3400 square foot home maintains many of the original features that give the house its character. Walk out the double living room doors onto the large 12x40-foot pecky cypress screened porch. Relax and listen to the surf roll in while enjoying the view.
All rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. There are two living rooms on the first floor, one for watching TV and one for conversation/reading. Using the etched glass and teak doors you can close off the upstairs, making the house cozy enough for two or large enough for the whole family.
This protected property is surrounded by trees and a wildlife preserve rich in rare plants. Migrating birds and butterflies pass through the area. Shore birds and song birds make an interesting combination. With an acre of land and surrounding undeveloped lots, there is a true feeling of privacy that many beach homes lack. Make yourself at home, have a good time and relax are the rules of the house. This affordable house is a paradise for all.

Our 3rd year of spending March at this wonderful house was the best ever. Everything is so comfortable and welcoming, just like being at home, but with better weather and a beach! Every year it just keeps on getting grander. There were amorous frogs and toads singing their hearts out in the marsh behind the house, owls who whoing at night, more dolphins than ever, frolicking just off shore, almost every day. We walked much, laughed much, ate way too much, and all in all had the best holiday ever. Watching the full moon rising on the beach with our daughter, son in law and grandchildren was an incredible experience. The beach here is such a wonderful find, one of the few left in Florida.... uncrowded...darn right unpopulated! No high rise condos, just sand castles. We wouldn't miss it for the world...we'll be back next March, Linda. Until then we have our memories of our times at your wonderful home. See you then. Best regards Sharon and Jamie
Owner response:Thank you Sharon and Jamie, I'm so glad your vacation was fabulous. I also love the unpopulated beach where you can look for shells, watch the wildlife and hear the waves. Linda

My family and I stayed at this beautiful place for the month of September and it was wonderful. Many peaceful nights were spent out on the porch playing Scrabble and listening to the owls. This house has everything you need to be comfortable. The outdoor shower was very refreshing after a day on the beach.

Hi, Linda! I was revisiting your listing and could not believe I didn't ever get around to writing a review of your beautiful home. We had such a good time. Yes, it rained, but it was okay because we had the awesome porch to hang out on :) This home is a dream, and you were very helpful and pleasant! We will always remember our visit, and do plan on returning! Thanks for sharing your treasure with us! Deb & Terry

Our week at this house has been such a pleasure! We have enjoyed the charm and the character of the house as much as the beautiful, quiet beach, which is just a short walk across the street. The hardwood floors and furnishings are just gorgeous. Our favorite place, like many others', was the front porch, where you can hear the surf and relax any time of the day. What a great place to read, draw, or just rest! Our dachshunds loved the porch too, because they actually could see over the lower railing, and watch out over the yard. There is plenty of room in this house for a big group, but it is equally cozy for four people as well. Linda has anything you could possibly need. We have never stayed anywhere else where such attention was paid to detail. Our kids were thrilled to have the upstairs area to hang out and stay up late each night without keeping anyone else awake. There is a great video library as well as lots of books and games to keep them entertained. Thank you, Linda, for allowing us to stay here and enjoy a special family vacation. The kids, the dogs, and the grown-ups ALL enjoyed our time here in your beautiful home!

Once again we have enjoyed 5 weeks at this gracious home, and have already booked our spot for next March! Thanks Linda for providing such a charming vacation house...it truly felt like coming home. We spent far too much time on the screened porch, reading, dining, wining, etc. Feeding and watching the birds was a wonderful pastime, as was walking on the incredible beach, shelling, and enjoying the views and wildlife. All the improvements you have made this past year are amazing, and we loved the new shower, bbq, laundry facilities, to name a few. This house has everything that a crowd or a couple could ever need to enjoy the best vacation ever. When our 2 daughters, 2 son in laws, and 4 grandchildren arrived for March break...the house accommodated everyone with room to spare. The kids were thrilled to have the room under the eaves all to themselves, where they could stay awake all night whispering and listening to the owls. Days e spent on the beach, flying kites, building sand castles, finding the perfect shell and watching for dolphins, left everyone with happy, sandy memories. We made excursions into historic Apalachicola to enjoy the great restaurants and shops, the Ormond House museum was a great tour. The food is great, just about anywhere you look. We think you have a bit of paradise, Linda, and are so happy that you are willing to share it. See you next March. Sharon and Jamie
Owner response:Thank you Sharon and Jamie for the wonderful description of your vacation. This area of Florida is like visiting paradise. My goal is to have people enjoy their vacation with fun, relaxation, family and friends. I'm glad you have accomplished it all. I feel very fortunate to have wonderful families spend time at house. Everyone has treated the house like it was their own and I'm very thankful for that. I guess the "Front Porch" attracks the best people! Linda

This is a wonderful place full of charm, personality and character that you don’t find in the sterile, modern places. Fully stocked with all the cookery, toys, games, beach gear, etc., you need. We recommend it without reservation. Thanks Linda!

We made our second trip down to this property for a full week in September and it was even better than our previous trip in May 2009. This place has everything you could need while you are on vacation. It truly feels as though you are visiting a friends place rather than renting from a stranger. Linda really goes out of her way to make people feel at home! We are already looking forward to next year!

We rented this house for the first time in May 2009 and we are already planning to go back in September 2009. We had a wonderful time!! The pictures on VRBO to not begin to do the house justice. My favorite part of all is the HUGE screened in porch, it is where we spent the majority of our time. The house has everything you could want. The kitchen is very well stocked. We are already counting the days til September!!

May 24 - 30. Linda, Thank you so much for opening your lovely home to our family. The vote is final -- from the 5 year old to the 86 year old, Everything was just perfect! Thank you for thinking of everything and making the house so well equipped. We loved the morning walks by the beach, crabbing in the afternoon and local seafood at the 'Raw Bar'. With St Joe's and Apalacahacola just 20 minutes away, we satisfied our appetite for shopping and sightseeing. Honestly though, we mostly stayed at the house and rocked the stress away. Thank you for the wonderful memories. The Rourkes
