Six families spent a Holiday weekend at "The Bend" and had a very good time. There was plenty of room for all of us at the same time as well as being able to 'disappear' when we wanted quiet time. Thank you for sharing with us. We REALLY want to spend some summer time there, too. The NELSON's Kirkland, WARecommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway, people with disabilities.
Owner response: It was such a delight to have you and your family here for the holidays. We look forward to seeing you in the summer. Thank you for your business. Warmly, Bonnie

I booked this house for a family reunion. I live in WA near Seattle, and I had 20 people, coming in from CA, WY, MT, AZ, and MO, with 14 adults and 6 kids (one baby, three four-year-olds, and two-year-old twins). I had some concerns about the granite floors with the little kids, but it was completely fine. The house is gorgeous, and the views are spectacular. The kitchen had plenty of room to cook meals for the group, as well as allowing people to sit around the counter and chat. There is a small park down the hill with a playground, and it's a short walk into town. The house is about 90-120 minutes from the airport (give or take, for traffic), but the drive is beautiful. We spent most of the weekend with the doors wide open enjoying the fresh air, and if you have a musical family you will love the acoustics. We put the families with kids in the downstairs bedrooms so that they'd have some quiet, and while you can hear people walking upstairs (the main floor is the upstairs) and chairs being moved, it's really not noisy at all. A bunch of us sat up late playing and singing one night, and all the kids slept right through it. One word of warning: the house is very open, and the deck has stairs down to the yard, which has some very tempting (to a child) boulders surrounding it as part of the retaining wall. The owner clearly states in no uncertain terms DO NOT CLIMB ON THESE! but this is not a place that kids can be left unattended indoors or outdoors. There's no way to fence off an area for little ones. We brought a pack-and-play for the smallest kids, but if you have toddlers you should consider bringing a freestanding fenced ring. Out front, the driveway loops up and this results in a straight drop of about 8-10 feet onto blacktop, with no fence. One of my twins went running full speed towards it at one point and gave me the scare of my life (or the weekend, anyhow). This house is great for kids in many ways (they have a good long run around the main floor, and the deck has excellent fencing and is not wood, so no splinters on tiny bare feet) but they MUST MUST be supervised! There are some pretty kid-safe rooms downstairs for a little more relaxed play time. That said, assuming you are an involved and aware parent, I can't think of a single downside to this place. It was spotless, everything worked, the (MANY) light switches were well-labeled, the owner was so helpful before and during our stay, and the whole experience was wonderful.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

I can't say enough about "The Bend". We just spent three wonderful days with our family (all 21 of us) and the experience was beyond my highly anticipated expectations! Bonnie and her husband went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect from the moment we arrived until our departure. The view is spectacular, the accomodations remarkable and I can't wait to find a reason to return as soon as possible! If you have never been to Hood Canal, it is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, and this is the perfect way to experience it. It's just a short drive to the beach where you can swim, hike and play, or just stay at this beautiful home and enjoy the view, a warm fire and the company of family and friends. It truly is PARADISE!!! Thank you Bonnie. You are amazing!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Thank you Bonnie! Our family of 15 (5 families) had a lovely time staying at The Bend. Every detail was as described and the location couldn't have been more beautiful. Each day and evening blessed us with amazing views from sunrise to sunset to a full moon. We enjoyed sipping wine on the balcony each evening and then talked fireside with the kids while making s'mores before going to bed. Each family had their own comfortably appointed room, and the little kids (5, 6, and 8) were beyond thrilled with the bunk beds and the WII room. The teenagers slept in the downstairs tv room so were able to enjoy the WII until the "wee" hours of the night. The a/c worked perfectly and kept us cool during the heat of the day, but opening the windows in the late afternoon was such a comforting treat. The home couldn't be cleaner - loved the hand soap and ample towels. The kitchen was well appointed and provided us with everything we needed. We all went kayaking (rented at Alderbrook) and drove to Hama Hama on Saturday and brought home oysters and clams. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare that feast. The grill worked perfectly and was very clean. Thank you, thank you! We will forever have fond memories of this much needed family retreat, and hope to stay again in the future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Lovely setting in a beautiful home above Hood Canal with room for everyone ! We had a sit down dinner for 30 in the dining room and other meals were prepared in the best equipped gourmet kitchen I have ever stayed in! We would certainly stay there again! For the amount of people needing overnite accommodations, it was much more cost effective and we all got to be together yet have our own space too! You know how it can be with Family after a few days! LOL Bonnie was so easy to work with and even provided trasnportation from the SeaTac airport. She was always available for any questions and made the planning of this event go very smoothly!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: We have been renting out The Bend on Hood Canal since 2007. It trulyis a joy meeting our clients and seeing their expression when they see the property in person for the first time. That's what makes it worth while. We designed and built this beautiful gathering house to entertain in. It has so much to offer even if you are just looking to get away to enjoy the water, mountains and a tremendous sunset or celebrating the special moments in your life. Come on out to The Bend on Hood Canal and create memories of a lifetime.
Why the Owner Chose Union:
Hood Canal has a rejuvating quality about it. It allows you to kick back and take it all in. If you don't feel like going out to one of our fabulous resturants for your meals you might want to stop by the public beaches and pick up dinner yourself. Make sure to get your shellfish license and then head out for clams, oysters, and of course dungeness crab. Sit on the deck, around the firepit or snuggle up by the fireplace and enjoy the fare we do best - Northwest Seafood! Now if you really want to get in touch with Hood Canal how about a kayak ride, boat tour, sunset cruise. How about watching fireworks bursting on every side as you lounge in the spa? The Bend has tremendous view second to none. You have an unobstructed view from Hoodsport to the Skok River on up towards Annas Bay. WOW just doesn't say it but we'll count on you to put it in words when you arrive. The family's in the car, so what are you waiting for?
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Bend is a year round vacation destination property. I have had more families say that their teens were only coming part of the time. I always encourage them to come at the beginning. Once they get here they are elated that they came. Between the pool table, foosball, DVD collection, and of course the Wii entertainment comes easy. Friends that come to do a yearly reunion are rebooking. They love that they can all be in the same space when they want to do the "remember when" stories and yet have a another floor to get away for a little space or a nap. The kitchen has enough counter space to have 8-10 cooking, prepping, and more if the cook and chief bottlewashers are working at the same time. The compliment that I get the most is thank you for being there to answer questions. I believe "yes we can" is the answer. So book your reservation and come out to The Bend on Hood Canal and see why we spend so much time smiling around here!
