Stay in the beautiful hamlet of Le Port, along the river Cher at St. Georges sur Cher, France. The walk/bike-path from the private garden is four and a half kilometers up-river from the Château de Chenonceau. The hamlet is situated on a private drive and is peaceful, beautiful and quiet. The garden has cherry, pear, fig and apple trees.
Built in the 1870's, originally for fishermen journeying the Cher. The house has three bedrooms (two king beds, one queen), an office, family room, large kitchen/dining room, living room, two and a half bathrooms (includes shower and bathtub), fenced garden with patio-deck view of the Cher, outdoor tables and chairs, two minutes from Chissay train station and 25 minutes to the TGV to Paris (St. Pierre des Corps). Farmers markets in the area virtually every day, as well as flea and antique markets.
Le Port of St. Georges s/Cher is on the south bank, adjacent to Chenonceaux, Chissay, Montrichard, Amboise and Tours. We are surrounded by beautiful villages, centrally situated to the major chateau's of France, surrounded by open farmlands of Van Gogh-esq sunflower and wheat fields. The spring is filled with the fragrance of lilacs and blankets of yellow colza flowers highlighting the landscape. The sunflowers bloom by July and last throughout the Summer. This is a special place.

The Unique Benefits at this House
The house is situated on the Cher, where a lovely walk/bike path leads 4KM to the Château de Chenonceau. We have a private, secluded garden, where we spend a lot of time relaxing and eating! We also have a deck above the garden, where you can eat or relax while looking out at the river. We are centrally located for visiting the major Châteaux; French open-markets; biking through lightly traveled country roads along sunflower and wheat fields adorned with big, beautiful sky; swimming, kayaking and other recreational activities; and all within 2 1/2 hours from Paris by train or 3 hours by car.
A must-see landmark of all of France, the gentle River Cher flows slowly and passively between the exquisite arches of the Chateau de Chenonceau.
Owner's Map of St-georges-sur-cher
Our family moved to France in 2005 for 1 year, where our son spent the 5th grade at L'École de Pontlevoy in the Loire Valley. Towards the end of this extraordinary year we found the vacation home of our dreams, purchasing this property along the Cher in Le Port (a hamlet of St. Georges sur/Cher). We are only four kilometers east of the Château de Chenonceau and close to Amboise, Montrichard and Pontlevoy. We returned to live in Berkeley, CA, but we spend as much time as possible at our home in the Loire.

I need to add onto the review I've already written. When you stay here and have Agnes cook a meal for you (which was so good on our arrival day and the next morning), you HAVE to ask for the squash soup! It was out-of-this-world and would entice anyone to make the trip here from overseas just to have it again! We all hope to get back to this wonderful home and location sometime soon!!!

Our group of 6 adults spent an absolutely wonderful week in this warm and welcoming house in St. Georges. An easy drive from the train station via rental car (a major must), we were more than pleased when we reached our destination and were greeted by Agnes, caretaker-extraordinaire! She made us a meal for our first night and first breakfast which I highly recommend anyone arranging. The food was fresh and delicious and Agnes is as sweet as she can be -- a jewel. If she didn't know an answer to one of our questions, she worked hard to find the one. The location of the property in the Loire Valley is wonderful. We went hither and yon with the car and a GPS without any problems. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

My husband and I spent a wonderful and relaxing week using this home as our base for daily exploration. The house was extremely comfortable and is quite spacious for old construction. The rental process was extremely easy, the owners quite responsive to questions, and the on-site caretaker was very personable and helpful. The house was a great location for exploration down to Loches (our favorite), Amboise, or many of the other sites. Shopping could not be more convenient either with Montrichard extremely close and many local markets nearby. When sitting outside, there was a little road noise, but nothing to prevent conversation or enjoyment. Indoors, the house was extremely quiet. An added surprise was ripe apples on the trees in front, perfect for making apple compote in the well-stocked kitchen. A car is needed in our opinion, but the location is also excellent for riding bicycles. We would definitely recommend the property to friends and family.

We stayed at this beautiful property last summer, first week of August. From the moment we contacted the owners they were very kind and helpful. Once we decided among several properties reserving was easy, as well as payment. The pictures of the house were charming but when we got there it was even better! We were received by Agnes, who takes charge of the house, she speaks very good english and was very nice in making sure that we would be comfortable and felt at home. The house is very spacious, with the decoration of a typical country french house. It was full of little details, travel books... it was in itself a place to explore! The most impressive was when Agnes openned the little back door in the garden and the Cher river was just steps from us. It was astonishing! Every morning during our stay I would get up early to see the sun rise and its reflections the river, some people fishing, the "saules pleureurs" and nearby fields of sunflowers. My daughters and I enjoyed the enormous kitchen. My little one even picked up the first apple in the garden and made delicious apple pie. The property was very clean and maintained. There is a convenience store nearby as well as local produce and excellent bakery just 10 minutes walking. We found it a great place to explore the Loire. Most "chateaux" were 15 to 1 hour by car, it was very easy to come and go. We recomend starting with the Amboise Castle and stay at the night show where you will find out about Francois 1er and Leonardo daVinci, then follow him through history visitng the rest of the Chateaux. Do not miss Leonardo´s house and museum. If possible rent some bikes and enjoy the road! Most of all, prepare your trip, the region is so full of wonderful places and great history. We definitly recomend this house and hope to get back soon.

I've stayed in this beautiful house twice now during successive winters. The walking paths by the Cher are beautiful... nice little walk to Chenonceau, and also great daytrips all around by car. I can honestly say that even when cold and wet, the Loire Valley is still a thing of great beauty. I am also happy to report that the heating in this place is great, and all is well kept up. The large fireplace has made for many cozy winter nights! Can't wait to return. Thanks!

We loved everything about your cottage by the river. We felt like we really experienced the French country life by shopping at the local produce markets, cooking some of our own meals and eating in the garden with the flowers and apple trees. It was a great location to take day trips and then return to our own haven. What a peaceful, beautiful place to vacation!

We really enjoyed our stay in the Loire Valley, especially the day that we rented bikes in Montrichard and cycled to the Chateau of Chenonceaux. The house is full of character and charming French antiques; we particularly liked your garden -- our children picked apples and made an apple crumble which we ate in the garden to the sounds of the birds singing and the frogs croaking in the adjacent Cher river.
