Shell Cottage exceeds expectations. It's spacious yet cozy and has all the conveniences of home. It is very clean, which is important to people with well trained dogs. We don't want the place we stay to feel or look "pet friendly" and Shell Cottage definitely does not. It's spotless. It also should be noted that the cottage has no carpet which is great for cleanliness. The location is great; very convenient for walking and the owner is so helpful and thoughtful. We will definitely return to the Shell Cottage and to Beaufort. It was a great stay.Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The cottage was clean, cute, had everything we needed, and is in a perfect location. It is stocked with everything from paper towels to olive oil. We cooked in, using the cottage's grill a few nights. Otherwise, we walked to dinner and the shops. I have fallen in love with Beaufort and am going to miss my morning walks through this beautiful town. And the beaches nearby (take a ferry to Shackelford and Cape Lookout!) are so incredibly beautiful. Shell Cottage is behind the owner's law office. Lighthouse Cottage is an addition to the office. Both share a parking area and outdoor space. We're private people and were glad that Lighthouse Cottage was not occupied the week we were staying in Shell Cottage. If you're the type who never meets a stranger, you may make new friends here. Regardless, the location is great and the owner makes sure everything is perfect.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car.

This is a cozy, clean and welcoming cottage. The owner provided us with everything we needed. The cottage is vey close to Front Street docks, shopping and restaurants. Beaufort NC is a lovely historic town. Boat tours and bus tours are within walking distance from the cottage. The NC aquarium, Fort Macon and ocean beaches are just minutes away by car. We stayed just 3 nights, now we wish it had been more.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Very fine accommodations. Clean, convenient to downtown Beaufort, well-equipped and comfortable. We loved the area and found many things to do. The cottage was a cosy place to come back to at the end of the day. Much history in the area, opportunities for exercise, lovely waterfront experiences and a good place for reading and relaxing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities.

We just spent a wonderful week in Beaufort at the Shell Cottage; the cottage was perfect for us (me, my husband, and teenage daughter — plus our dogs). Bright and comfortable and just three blocks from the Beaufort waterfront; Deborah, the owner, also had three beach bikes available for us and we made good use of it. Made a few dinners in the kitchen and had some nice meals in town as well — would highly recommend Stillwater's on the waterfront and Blue Moon Bistro on one of the side streets. Also, take one of the ferries (more like water taxis) from the harbor out to the outlying islands; we could have spent a whole day exploring Shackleford Island, which is beautiful and deserted except for wild ponies, and the trip out to Point Lookout is really worth it. Everyone in town was so hospitable and friendly — we are looking forward to our next visit!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Shell Cottage was exactly what we expected. The description and photos were accurate and we were very pleased with our stay. It is a bright and cheery home away from home with every convience one could need. The cottage was well cared for and clean as a whistle. Being very close to restaurants and downtown, we rarely used our vehicle. The Maritime Museum was wonderful. We especially enjoyed dinner at Agua just down the street. Be sure to take the short drive to visit Fort Macon and Atlantic Beach. The owner was very helpful and supplied us with a mountian of information to acquaint us with Beaufort and the surrounding area. We are looking forward to our next visit to Beaufort and Shell Cottage.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, girls getaway.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
When you stay at Shell Cottage, you can walk just two blocks to great restaurants, shops, the Beaufort waterfront, museums, ferry boats, and the post office. Also, Shell Cottage is in the Beaufort historic district, and it is fun to walk by these beautifully restored houses dating back to the early 1700's.
Beaufort is also on the Intercoastal Waterway and is a popular stopover for many wonderful boats of all descriptions. Walking down the Beaufort boardwalk, getting an ice cream cone at the nearby General Store, and looking at the numerous boats moored at the Beaufort docks is something everyone will enjoy.
