Solar Home "Nimbus Novem" At Beaucoast

Our family has a love for the coast and an affinity for the historic town of Beaufort, North Carolina, a waterfront community and one time home of the notorious pirate, Blackbeard. We love to boat, surf, scuba dive, sail, kayak, fish and wander the beaches in search of ocean treasures. We gravitate to all things nautical including GREAT seafood and seaside ambience. We are adventure seekers and this coastal home is the perfect getaway where we can pursue all our seaside passions. We named the house Nimbus Novem which was the name of our first sailboat, a 1972 29 foot Ericson that was our young family's camper on the water from 1999 to 2015. Nimbus Novem or Cloud Nine translated from Latin, was built in 2019 in the community of Beaucoast and is a 2nd home for the Exums. The house runs off a solar array system with Tesla panels and 2 whole-house backup Tesla Powerwall batteries. In the event of a power outage, this house will continue to be powered by solar energy and battery backup. Nimbus Novem is also vacation rental we are excited to share with other adventure seekers. Beaucoast is a planned community with dock for launching kayaks and temporary boat mooring, a kayak storage barn, a community swimming pool, a fitness center, a boutique convenience store “Traders”, a clubhouse with ping pong tables, picturesque kayak & fishing ponds and an inviting close knit community of homeowners and vacation goers. Google "Beaucoast" to find out more. It's nestled in Beaufort just off Taylor's creek with countless restaurants, bars, a brewery, coffee shops and shopping. You are a 15 minute car ride to some amazing beaches in Atlantic Beach. This 4 bedroom house sleeps 16 comfortably, 4 of which have their own space in our studio apartment with kitchenette, full bath and an outside shower. The apartment is over the garage. This house has a screened in porch in front and outdoor terrace in the back with table, chairs and rockers, a garage and level II EV (Electrical Vehicle) charging outlet. House has 7 adult bicycles, and 2 kid bikes. PLEASE NOTE: we sometimes block the studio apartment room for owner usage for brief maintenance trips, while tenants are staying in the MAIN house. Please make sure when you inquire that you specify that you need the 4th bedroom which is the studio apartment. The house sleeps 12 and the with the apartment over the garage the property sleeps 16. The property is equipped with exterior Ring cameras for security purposes.

We absolutely loved our visit to Beaufort. I found the home to be beautiful, clean and comfortable. The community pool was a wonderful amenity to have, especially for the little ones. Beautiful Home and Community!

We had such a wonderful time experiencing the beauty and comfort of Nimbus Novem! The house was perfect for an incredibly memorable trip with our whole family. The home provided a perfect launch point for our adventures along the Crystal Coast. The neighborhood was a great place for us to walk and exercise with the gym and abundant sidewalks. We were group of 10 friends in town for a wedding. Steve was a great communicator and the house was excellent. While the full 16 allowed would be cramped, all advertised beds have real, comfortable mattresses, whereas many properties just have some very uncomfortable futons or cots. Owners put real thought and money into furnishing the house well. Would absolutely stay at nimbus novem again.

Everything about this house is first class. The furnishings are top of the line…chef’s kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Home away from home!

Beatiful, great location and fabulously decorated. It had everything you could possibly need in the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen. A gas grill and extra fridge in the garage. Pingpong table was enjoyed! We rode the Nimbus bikes around the neighbourhood and on Front street. So much to see and discover. Loved our visit. Communications with Steve and Molly were excellent. We had a family wedding at the Beaufort Hotel, which was a 2 minute drive… some even walked! The home was very, very comfortable, clean and beautiful. We drove to the beach for the morning, went to the outdoor market and had a delicious take out lunch from Beaufort Grocery in our own back yard. We needed and wanted more time!! Next time…!! Great Stay at the Nimbus Novem

First time staying at Beau Coast but long time visitor to the area as we lived in the area about 15 years ago and visit as often as we can. The house was wonderful and was a great getaway from the normal hustle and bustle. The community pool, Beau to Go (Beaufort Grocery shoutout!), and the numerous ponds were great for the kids and adults. I would highly recommend this house and the community. We had great walks and runs in the morning and evenings and love how close it was to downtown Beaufort. The kids could ride bikes and had a wonderful time exploring and fishing. Didn't get a chance to use the kayaks but its a great access. If we get another house rental down there, this will be our first choice!

Home was clean, very nicely maintained, wonderful amenities that unfortunately we were able to use due to rain, owners were accommodating and easy to work with. Would recommend this property with the caveat that “big brother” is watching with outside cameras. We enjoyed the property and did everything we could to take care of it while we were there but I have to admit knowing you were being watched felt a little odd. Outside of that, great property!

Novus Nimbem's interior furniture, artwork, and overall set up was absolutely fantastic. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into the house. Great speakers, huge TV, brand new refrigerator, spacious screened in porch. Top notch. I could not think of a better value in beaufort if you're looking for a place to sleep 6+ people. We were highly impressed with the cleanliness of the home, along with the abundance of inclusions. Wonderful place to stay in Beaufort! Highly Recommend!!

What a wonderful place to stay in Beaufort NC! It was absolutely perfect for our family get-together to celebrate our parent's 50th anniversary! It's in a lovely quiet neighborhood, and still plenty close enough to Beaufort and the other nearby cities. The house was extremely clean, spacious, and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We really enjoyed hanging out in the screened font porch, playing cornhole, ping pong, and foosball, and catching some nice bass in the pond behind the house! Steve and Molly were absolutely wonderful hosts, and they really went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay! You can tell they really care that their guests have the absolute best experience possible. Communication with the hosts was also wonderful before, during, and after our visit. If you're planning a visit to Beaufort, I highly recommend staying at Nimbus Novem!!

Steve Exum is the president and principal photographer at Exum Photography, LLC. Exum is a North Carolina native who grew up in Raleigh. Steve, his wife Molly, their daughter Bella and son Sawyer live in Elon, NC with their dogs Cooper & Fisher. We purchased this house in Beaufort in the planned community of Beaucoast because we believe it would be both a perfect second home for trips to the coast and a great rental. This is one of two properties on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina we manage. We named the house Nimbus Novem (or Cloud 9 translated from Latin) because this was the name of our 1972, 29 foot Ericson Sailboat Molly and I bought in partnership with my dad, Jim Exum, in 1999 the same year Molly and I got married. The boat needed a lot of love and we spent countless hours making her our first floating vacation home in Oriental, NC. Our family learned a lot about sailing and life sailing her around the Neuse River and Pamlico sound. Our first overnight voyage to Ocracoke was a beautiful journey to the Outer Banks. The return trip however was test of fortitude and nerves as we white knuckled it through a series of horrible squalls in the shallow Pamlico sound. We lost our engine halfway across the sound requiring a tow back to our marina for repairs. That was just the beginning of so many adventures boating around the crystal coast. We also found buried treasure on Shackleford Banks but that's another story. We sold our sailboat in 2015 but the name Nimbus Novem was synonymous with Exum family adventures around the waters of Beaufort, Atlantic Beach and Morehead City. So we've named our Beaufort house in the Beaucoast community Nimbus Novem to keep the name alive.

Why they chose this property

As a planned community with so many amenities, this property is very special and so is the Crystal Coast area of Beaufort, Atlantic Beach and Morehead City. In addition to Nimbus Novem on Gray Duck Drive, we manage the Exum Beach Cottage on Club Colony in Atlantic Beach, NC. This Exum Cottage was built by my grandfather James Gooden Exum, Sr. in the 40’s and was one of the original cottages built on Club Colony Drive. Hurricane Hazel blew it down and my Grandfather rebuilt it in 1955. With its nostalgic knotty pine walls, this cottage has been the base for huge Exum Family gatherings, marriages and has accommodated countless friends for great beach vacations. We are intimately familiar with areas of Beaufort, Morhead City and Atlantic Beach having vacationed their for just over 50 years.
