Our stay was even better than we had hoped for! The hostess was very kind and helpful. The casita was beautiful, clean and perfect in all ways. The views from the ranch were breathtaking. We hope to visit again. It was located in a interesting part of NM and near the Salinas Pueblo Ruins that we wanted to visit. Everyone would have to love such a wonderful place.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers.

We stayed at the ranch with our two horses and living-quarter horse trailer. Enjoyed three days of beautiful riding and wonderful hospitality. The barn and runs for the horses were perfect, safe and well maintained with plenty of room. We were treated to a guided ride to some local ruins , spent another day exploring and one more day riding in the Cibola Forrest. What could be better! The ranch is beautifully maintained and we felt very welcomed. The sunsets were gorgeous and night sky full of stars. All in all a wonderful get-away.Did you find this review helpful? We, too, LOVE this place. This is exactly the type of accommodation we are always looking for when traveling: Well-appointed, spotless, with quiet privacy and beautiful views! Lots of room and as comfy as home, the owners have thought of everything to make staying here exceptional. We loved the huge kiva fireplace, the heated travertine floors, the luxurious bedding and fluffy towels, the perfect kitchen, and the washer/dryer. The view of the mountains (pink on winter mornings!) is amazing, and we loved watching the horses and the hundreds of birds coming to the feeders .... and the stars at night! We hiked the three Salinas National Monument's ruins, all nearby, in fact one is so close we rode our bikes down the road to it, and had some amazing food and coffee at Alpine Alley in Mountainair, an easy drive from the casita. We found the people of Mountainair, as well as Karen at Two Ponyz, to be friendly and gracious and we so enjoyed exploring the history and art (beautiful murals and mosaics on the buildings) of this lovely New Mexican town. Karen was very helpful in advising us where to hike and bike, as well as what was interesting to see in the area (there's a lot). We love New Mexico, and have vacationed there many times. In terms of location, natural beauty, things to see and do, and the value of staying in such a lovely casita, Two Ponyz is now on the top of our list of favorite places. We hope to return next winter for more sunshine and peace!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Time at Two Ponyz is a wonderfully relaxing experience . Most of all as an amateur astronomer Two Ponyz is a perfect destination. It is located at an elevation of over 6300 feet and 50 miles to the south east of Albuquerque, 10 miles from the small city of Mountainair. I estimate Two Ponyz’ skies to rate between 2.5 to 3 on the Bortle scale with seeing conditions to be about 2.5 arcseconds. Although there are several specialized astronomy “resorts” in New Mexico, Two Ponyz offers the most comfortable and private accommodations with its southwestern casita. I setup my telescope just a few yards from the casita in a clearing sheltered by a few small juniper trees. The owners are very accommodating in controlling outdoor lighting. Although I enjoy socializing with other astronomy buffs, I cherish the time spent viewing, photographing and just meditating uninterrupted under the night sky. Also there is a wide range of activities of interest to the entire family (horseback riding, birding, hiking … ) I enjoyed the hiking in the neighboring national forest with wonderful views of the Manzano Mountains. One hike I recommend is to the Abo pueblo ruins. You can drive there but it is an easy 5 mile hike on the forest access road. The owners Karen and Adam are wonderful hosts and work to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. I will be back again!Owner response: Stargazers welcome. And we thank these guests for giving us insight on this exciting special feature Two Ponyz Ranch has to offer. In addition to hiking to the Salinas Mission Ruins at Abo', guests also have the option to horseback ride to these ruins. The Manzano Mountain Art Council also offers a variety of free-of-charge cultural events throughout the year. Please take time from your busy life to enjoy this land of enchantment as our guests at Two Ponyz Ranch.

We had cold weather during our stay but the heated floors were cozy and warm. A truly lovely place to relax in the winter. The casita was immaculate and beautifully furnished--very comfy. So quiet and yet at night the lovely mournful sound of trains. We saw a sky full of stars--one of the reasons we chose this place. The directions to the casita were very easy to follow and Karen drew us a map to find our way out as we are direction challenged! The town of Mountainair was so intriguing --Murals and mosaics and lovely old buildings to explore. I would recommend Two Ponyz to anyone and we hope to return in another season!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: So glad you found the guesthouse warm and inviting. Being on the opposite side of the mountains from Albuquerque, the stargazing here is incredible. And in winter, just before sunrise, the mountains are bathed in a beautiful pink glow. Days trips can include visits to the Salinas mission ruins, a tour of the many beautiful murals in Mountainair, a spa day in T or C, or maybe a ride to Belen and then taking the Roadrunner Rail train up to Albuquerque or Santa Fe. And of course just relaxing and enjoying the expansive natural landscape is food for the soul.

Rest for the body, renewal for the soul and spirit! That’s how I would describe our all too short stay at Two Ponyz Ranch! The lovely accommodations at the Casita provide both inspiration and comfort with its ample view of the majesty of Manzano Peak in the distance and the sight of graceful horses grazing in the foreground. With fully equipped kitchen, restful bed and plenty of varied reading material, my husband and I were set to stay for a while. We explored the magical pueblo ruins and hiked in the abundant natural surroundings in the day and were grateful for our snug retreat at the Casita in the evening. Our favorite hike was to the top of Manzano Peak. We started out on the Kayser Mill Tail off FR 422; Kayser Mill Trail then joins the Crest Trail which leads to the top of the mountain. The hike is approximately 8 miles round trip and of moderate difficulty, and the rewards are worth the effort. The payoff of spectacular scenery and grand overlooks made the hike one not to be forgotten.Owner response: Many of our guests are looking for a place where they are able to embrace the majesty nature has to offer while enjoying the comforts of home. Here at Two Ponyz Ranch it is our pleasure to assist guests with suggestions and information on places to hike, ride, learn and enjoy the history and beauty New Mexico has in abundance.

This was my first stay at Two Ponyz Ranch. I was looking for a place where I was in a remote area, could hike from the front door, supportive of contemplation and have internet access. Two Ponyz exceeded my hopes. It is hard to describe how beautiful it is here and the effect of the 360 degree views. This is a fabulous place for folks looking for solitude, an environment supportive of reflection and/or if you want a beautiful casita to return to after a day of hiking in the Manzano mountains, horseback riding or exploring in and around Mountainair. Karen has taken great care with this casita. It is smartly designed and well-appointed. It has a warm, nurturing feel to it. Karen is welcoming, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Two Ponyz Ranch.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

What a wonderful casita. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this peaceful setting. The casita is beautifully furnished, well equipped., clean and very comfortable. Karen was the perfect hostess. She was available anytime we needed. Yet, she certainly respected our privacy. The area offers many hiking trails from easy to more challenging. There are many historical sites to visit close by. The views are spectacular in every direction. The air is filled with the fragrances of the area flora. So, as you can see from our comments, we would highly recommend Two Ponyz Ranch.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

It's really hard to put into words what happens when my wife and I stay at Two Ponyz. All I can say is that we always leave with joy in our hearts and a longing to come back. I love jogging down to the Abo ruins, letting my mind wander as I take in the landscape. What Charles Lummis wrote about the Quarai ruins is equally fitting for Abo: "An edifice in ruins, it is true, but so tall, so solemn, so dominant of that strange, lonely landscape...On the Rhine, it would be superlative, in the wilderness of the Manzano it is a miracle." And speaking of miracles, be sure to visit Alpine Alley in charming Mountainair. In my hometown of Portland, Oregon, this would be a superlative cafe; in the foothills of the Manzano Mountains, it really is a miracle.Owner response: So many guests appreciate the opportunity to walk, run or ride through this wilderness setting. The mountain and mesa views offer the natural beauty most of us crave. There is something about the nuturing of nature that certainly does "leave us with joy in our hearts".

A nature retreat with superb peace and quiet. Luxury spacious casita has warmth and grace. Beautiful artwork and extra comfortable beds and furniture. Owner Karen has welcoming details everywhere--fresh flowers, fine linens and towels, a delightful goodie basket, and fireplace filled with wood and kindling ready to go. This home would be extraordinary for a writer or artist for an extended stay. The idyllic setting, gorgeous light, pristine quiet and super-comfy casa would nuture anyone seeking an inspiring work setting. Many interesting and moving historic sites to visit. The town of Mountainair is friendly and fun to explore. This vacation home is excellent in every possible way......a unique find and treasure! Susan and Val, Blanco, Tx.Owner response: Winter in New Mexico can be so wonderful. There's nothing like the gorgeous view of snow on the Manzano Mountains at sunrise with a crackling fire in the kiva. And plenty to explore or if you prefer an ideal place to retreat. Let us offer you five star service in this wilderness setting.
