Old World Charm in Historic Georgetown

We are located in a quaint, functioning, Victorian town just 1 block from the historic downtown with shopping, dining, and museums. The rental comprises the 2nd and 3rd floors of the historic 1875 Mercantile Building. We are able to offer part of the space for a reduced rate if your party is less than 10! See our rates below for these different options. The first floor is an operating retail store with miniatures for dollhouses and trains, as well as gifts and tourist items.
Our guests are many times surprised by the spaciousness and cleanliness of the facility. We have spent a lot of time and effort to come up with the perfect blend of the modern and the old. The computer and wireless are housed in a roll-top desk. The updated kitchen and bathrooms have slanted floors that creak and irregularly shaped doors. The furniture, a mixture of antiques and the new, had to be carefully measured to make it up the steep, narrow, grooved from use, stairs. The high ceilings and large rooms lend themselves to a feeling of being able to spread out.
The layout of the rooms offer a wonderful amount of privacy. Not only is there a table in the dining room (96' long - perfect for games, puzzles, and family gatherings), but another in the kitchen (for those intimate early morning or late night chats.) The bedroom with the king size memory foam bed is located in the northwest corner of the second floor (next to the main bathroom.) The other bedroom on this floor is located in the northeast corner and has a double bed, a day bed, and a single trundle bed. The third bedroom is located on the third floor, has dorners (for that Victorian feel), a queen bed with pillow-top mattress, and an attached bathroom.
We are a smoke free and pet free facility.
Children and families really enjoy staying here. The space if full of nooks and crannies, and we have not over-decorated so there are few things that parents need to worry about getting broken. We offer a high chair, a portable crib, and a booster chair for our younger guests, as well as puzzles, games, and a few toys geared for their ages. And of course, with a dollhouse shop on the first floor, there is a dollhouse!
We have just recently added a Victorian Tea Room on the main floor of the building. You will wake up to the scent of fresh scones, meat pies, lemon curd, and tea! Visit our website for the Dusty Rose Tea Room.
Come and see for yourselves all this wonderful space has to offer!

This place is a hidden gem! We stayed for one night (our own time limitation), and it was a perfect change from a hotel. There was plenty of room to spread out--lovely dining room, living room, plenty of seating, large assortment of games. Jeanette did a really nice job of making this property a warm, charming and inviting place. The surroundings were quiet, and the only way you knew the apartment was above Jeanette's shop was the lovely aroma of baked goods wafting through the air! And her scones that were left for us for breakfast were delicious! We will definitely choose again when in the area. Thank you for a lovely stay.Did you find this review helpful? The listing description for this property was very accurate, the photos were good but could never catch the ambiance the apartment truly has. Such love was put into every detail of decorating and consideration for the comfort of their guests. Jeannette, the owner was so helpful in so many ways not only with the apartment, plus she was such a delightful person, you felt you were in the home of a friend. We can't wait to go back for another girls get-a-way weekend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

I have been staying at the Historic St James for 3 years now and it just doesn't get better than this. Lots of room for big families, totally friendly and personal, clean, historic, lots of little nice things that add up to a great experience, flexible, books, games, internet, computer, and the list goes on. I will be staying here for many years to come. RonRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

Spent a magnificent weekend here with a writer's group. The atmosphere was conducive to writing, reading, laughing and having an unforgettable time with great friends. This property has every detail thought out to ensure comfort and relaxation. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has all items needed to prepare meals. Everything was neat and cozy. The owners could not have been more accommodating or helpful. We were greeted with a plate of lovely scones that literally melted in our mouths. Also enjoyed the High Tea downstairs in the St. James Tea Room. It was another amazing experience. So much to eat, the history and story behind the tea room was shared by the owner in historic dress, and the choice of teas to choose from was large. Would recommend this place for a romantic getaway, a family weekend/holiday, or a group wanting to connect.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

Without seeing the property prior to reserving I was pleasantly surprised by the size and atmoshpere. Jeannette and Chris are terrific owners who had a plate of "sticky buns" waiting for us on the kitchen table with a hand written note. We have 6 children and all were able to sleep comfortably in a bed, which is hard to find with my size family. The squeaky floors, old, turn of century doors, handles and windows reminds you of a bygone era reminscent of "Little House On The Prairie" time period. Every room is large with nice furnishings that are both comfortable and pleasing to look at. Had I known this would have been this nice and affordable I would have booked our whole week here vs splitting the lodging time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

This apartment is beautiful! The furniture is nice, the floors are clean, and the owner was great at adding little things (i.e. nice soap, starter kit in the kitchen with limited food supplies, and free internet connection on the computer). I would highly recommend this as a vacation location for families, as it can accommodate up to 10 people. It is close to cross country skiing and snow shoeing trails, along with being a short drive from Loveland ski area. Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed our stay here and hope to come back again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I have resided in Georgetown since 1999, previously having had the opportunity to travel throughout the Americas and Spain. Chris joined me in 2003 and while managing the Georgetown Mercantile/Rocky Mountain Miniatures store in Georgetown, as well as the Historic St. James Vacation Rental, have been able to continue our travels - to include Asia and the Middle East, as well as Europe and the western hemisphere. We appreciate the tranquility and the small town life in Georgetown. We especially enjoy sharing this with our guests who come to stay with us at the Vacation Rental.
Why the Owner Chose Georgetown:
The location lends itself perfectly to the vacationing couple, family, or larger group. The town is a magnet for both the relaxed vacationer, the family get-away, and the avid outdoor person. We wanted to provide a base camp, so to speak, for the group, allowing each to do what they enjoy.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The facility is quiet and centrally located in an historic district of a small town. Nearby are year-round fishing opportunities, skiing, snowboarding, ATVs, river rafting, hiking, horseback riding, shopping, museums, restaurants, and a general small town feel. In the rental we provide books, puzzles, games, and local interest information, as well as the local papers and general information about things to do in the area.
