Our beautiful warm little cabin is the perfect place to experience the charm of Shelter Cove.
We are 300 feet above the ocean and it is about a mile walk down the winding streets to the ocean edge. The private back deck overlooks the forest and out across the ocean. Birds fly and scamper and sing all around. The sound of the barking seals can be heard.
There is a Jacuzzi tub. A romantic loft bedroom with a warm cozy bed. A soft comfy couch. A country kitchen. You will not find TV or a computer. Bring a book. Play with a puzzle. Take a walk.
Sleep. Watch the sun set. Breathe the fresh sparkling air. Listen to the birds sing.
Hidden within the Lost Coast is Shelter Cove
At the center of northern California’s Lost Coast, this quiet fishing community is snuggled safely within the steep rugged coastline. Land access is a narrow road that twists up and down thru the fir and redwood forests of the King Range Conservation Area.
The road ends at the small village overlooking the vast sea and sky.
In the mountains overlooking the village is a maze of rural streets. Vacation, retirement and permanent homes look out to spectacular views of the ocean, sunsets and coastlines. Deer and other wildlife are plentiful.

We choose Shelter Cove to build our log cabin because the area is beautiful, quiet and remote. It has some of the best ocean fishing available on the California Coast. The walks on the beach are refreshing and energizing.

Private and Great views, but...

This place has a wonderful private deck on the back overlooking the distant ocean with fabulous sunsets and a great cabin "feel". A bit pricy for the area but if you want to get away from it all and enjoy a glass of wine in the fresh air this is the spot. Down the hill a bit is the sort of fading mini-resort spot of shelter cove with a few nice options. The black sand beach is massive and well worth a long afternoon stroll for a mile or two. There is a small house across the street behind the place on the other side of the road but felt plenty private looking our all of the windows on the three other sides of the cabin. The strange thing about this place was the cleaning charge. Despite the $80 fee you are told to wash, dry and fold your linens and return them to their beds (which is where they were when you arrived). You need to also wash your dishes (we were convinced we did a much better job than the previous guests as we had to wash nearly every dish before we used it). Oh, and did i mention that the note also asks you to remove all garbage and take it to the local landfill (to pay the smal dump fee). Really??? On my vacation after paying the hefty little overnight charge and $80 to have the place cleaned I'm folding laundry and going to the dump and doing dishes? What does that $80 cover again?
