Change of weather changed plans. However, time spent at the cottage was enjoyed. Good Beach access and well maintained. We had a great time.

Loved this house! "Staycation" in Erie County, but felt like we were hours from home. What a gorgeous lake view, and short trek to the beach via the footpath or nearby Racoon Creek. Peaceful setting for hummingbird watching, painting flat rocks from the shore, or listening to nature on the back deck. Played whiffle ball for hours in the side yard and rode bikes too. Eagley Park at Sunset was a treat, a clean, well equipped lakefront area just down the road, just past the nearby Tasty Twist! How convenient. 2 great little wineries are nearby in Conneaut for those folks that like to do a little winetasting. The White Turkey drive-in on Route 20 was a cute place for a quick bite to eat and awesome for nostalgia lovers. The cottage itself is well equipped and cute as a button. It was cool enough for a fire the first night and the fireplace was perfect. 3 comfy bedrooms upstairs where we could actually hear the water from the shore with the windows open! Nice! So nice to have a bathtub and shower too. It's hard to call this place a cottage when it is so well outfitted. Thanks for allowing us to share your cozy haven on the shore. We loved it.

Owner response: Wow, what nice comments. It makes us feel so happy that others can use the cottage for such great times. I'd love to spend more time there but my job and primary residence is 3.5 hours away. It is so great to know that by renting it out others get to share our unique little treasure and also help us continually improve it.

We had a wonderful time at the cottage, which was so comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, and the owners were caring and accommodating. The yard was great for games and grandchildren, as was the park next door. We used the fire pit for s'mores and caught fish in the lake.. There were so many activities in the area that we never lacked for things to do, in addition to the numerous games at the cottage that led to spirited competitions between the generations. We loved the deck where we could watch and enjoy the lake. Overall, it was a lovely experience. Thanks, Rick and Diane.

This is a wonderful, clean and well-kept home. The pictures don't do it justice. There is a great enclosed front porch perfect in the morning. The kitchen had many items available to us from regular pots and pans/utensils to condiments, seasonings, storage containers and bags. There were tons of bath towels and even baskets full of travel shampoo etc. We assumed we'd have our hands full staying here with 14 month old twins but the house is virtually baby-proof. Besides blocking off the stairs and moving a few small breakables off end tables the house was perfect for kids. You should know that as with many lakefront homes the "beach" is not like Presque Isle. It is rocky and hard to traverse. But it is a driftwood lovers paradise! I do believe there is a park just down the road with a beach [they were doing construction while we were there and so unable to stop] though.

Owner response: As always we are so appreciative of the nice comments. They are constructing a wonderful new, $300k pavillion at the park nearby. Our beach changes constantly, but it is different than Presque Isle which is always all sand. **Follow up** Here we are just a couple weeks later and the beach is almost all sand after having been primarily rocky all summer. It just shows how much it can change in a very short amount of time.

Property was well maintained, well stocked and very comfortable. It totally met our needs and is quite convenient to many area attractions. The descent to the beach was described as steep and was a bit more so than we anticipated. When the new pavilion is completed at the beach area just down the road the area will be terrific.

We stayed Saturday through Thursday and had a wonderful time. The cottage is very nice! It is clean, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook, grill, etc. The bathroom and bedrooms are very nice and comfortable. I personally enjoyed the front porch in the morning and evenings to read and relax. The back deck has a beautiful view of the lake. We also enjoyed going to nearby beach at Presque Isle State Park... you feel like you are in Florida. The beach near the the cottage is great for campfires, fishing and exploring. The weather cooperated most of the week with rain the day we left. Overall we had a relaxing wonderful vacation, and look forward to coming back.

The cottage was absolutely wonderful. Everything was very clean and the owners have thought of everything. I am an overpacker and upon arriving I realized I could have packed clothes and food and we would have been set for the trip. We could not have possibly had a better experience. The view of the lake from the house is amazing and sitting outside as night listening to the waves is wonderful. Our kids did not want to leave! Thank you Rick and Diane for sharing your cottage with us.

3 couples in their 50s spent an extending weekend at this cottage soaking in the last of the Autumn scenery and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We spent a good portion of our time outside, walking along the beach and through the leaves lining the roadway. We loved the massive old trees in the backyard. The accomodations were clean and accurately portrayed in the listing. The kitchen was well supplied with cooking utensils. We loved listening to the oldies on the record player. For us there were no negatives although we did try to connect to the internet but without success (which didnt matter much to us!) The owners were very responsive to our requests. We would, without hesitation, recommend this rental to anyone looking for a place to truly get away from it all!

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: Taken at Raccoon Creek park located next door to the cottage. The cottage is a magical spot to create wonderful memories.

                      Why the Owner Chose Erie:
The land has been owned by the family since the Mid 50's. After the Elmwood Home closed, there were two other owners of the surrounding property. I believe one used it to harvest timber, the other gutted what was remaining of the Elmwood home and had the buildings torn down. In the mid 50's, my grandfather, James Evans of Girard, and partners purchased 200 acres including what is now Raccoon park. The cottage was rented to Micheal Obrien, a good tenant whom they sold the cottage to. He raised his family there and lived there until sold back to the family in 1987 when he died. In 1965 the partners sold the acreage of what is now Raccoon Park and kept four 2.5 acre plots west of Raccoon Creek along the lake. Two of those 2.5 acre lots is what the cottage sits on. . It is our piece of paradise all year round and a big piece of our heart and family history.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, fires on the beach, watching incredible sunsets, visiting nearby wineries, spending quality time with family.
