Greetings folks, Uncle Warren here. I just wanted to say hey to all of you folks that are lookin’ for a place to stay in Glen Arbor. I’ve had family comin’ to this village since the end of WWII, so you could say we know and love this place.
When I built my retreat in 2005, I had every intention of renting it to folks, like you, that love Northern Michigan, in particular, Leelanau County. So with the advice of my family, I believe I’ve built a place that’ll make you and your pet as happy and comfortable as you can possibly be.
Yes, I said PET. You can’t be from northern Michigan and not love your four-legged family members. So don’t worry about boardin’ little ‘Sparky’, or buggin’ your neighbors with checkin’ and feedin’ ‘em. Bring that mongrel along and enjoy your time with your WHOLE family. You’ll find a stainless-steel food and water dish and some mut-mits for cleaning up while you’re out walkin’.
Now let’s get down to what you really want to know, what’s this place like?
In a nutshell, my little Chalet can sleep up to 7 folks, in two bedrooms, each with its own attached bathroom, and on a pullout couch. I’m not sure what this means, but my family tells me to mention it. I have a Wi-Fi Hot-Spot built right in to my cabin (apparently folks like that).
The master bedroom is ‘beach’ themed, with a ceiling fan, a queen bed, with night stands and headboard handmade by my Great Nephew, ‘Little Davie.’ In the lighted closet there’s enough space and hangers to hang everything from tuxedos to T-shirts. The view from the window is a nice little woods scene. And there’s a little crank-out window over the headboard in case you want some fresh air through the night. There are nice bright lamps for reading and an alarm clock for when you need to catch that ferry to South Manitou. Did I forget to mention his and hers chest of drawers? Bed-sheets, blankets, pillows (foam and feather) and covers are all included.
The master bath has a 5-foot mirrored, single-sink vanity! Enough room for mom AND dad to get ready at the same time. A fancy wall-mount hair-dryer will save you some room in your suitcase. And complementary soap, shampoo and hand lotion should get you through. The three-person hot-tub will provide for at least one evening of romantic bliss. And the standing shower stall provides for the routine business. There is an adjustable tank less water heater, so don’t worry about runnin’ out of hot water! Oh, and don’t be surprised when you fill the hot tub. The water is actually BLUE, just like the Glen Lakes. Hand towels, washcloths and bath towels are included.
The upstairs bedroom is ‘nautical’ themed, with a ceiling fan, one full and one twin bed, also with handmade headboards and night stand. The view out this window is a nice woods scene, too. The lighted main closet is big enough for hangin’ stuff and the little closet has shelves for stackin’ stuff. Bed-sheets, blankets, pillows (foam and feather) and covers are all included.
The bathroom is just what kids need, vanity, wall-mount hair dryer and tub/shower combo. By the way, pull down on the water spigot to activate the shower. I get a lot of questions on that. Hand towels, washcloths and bath towels are included.
Now the kitchen, which is ‘wine-country’ themed. Aunt Maggie is a terrific cook. But she doesn’t like those big, fancy kitchens. She says, ‘Any family only needs one good cook. And as long as they got all the tools they need, they can feed an army.’ So believe-you-me, this kitchen has everything your family cook needs and it ain’t spread out. So if there’s cookin’ goin’ on, you’d just better sit back in one of the directors chairs and watch. Cause ‘a good cook is a miracle in the makin’. Or ‘a good cook is makin’ a miracle.’ (I can never get that straight). Toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker, ice maker, microwave, disposal and dishwasher are all included.
The Great Room has a pull-out couch, IPOD player/radio, VCR/DVD player, cable TV with ‘extended’ channels (sorry, no premium channels) and a gas fireplace, terrific for those chilly nights. Tiffany style lamps at each end of the couch provided for easy readin’. And a reclining leather chair and foot stool provides for relaxin’. A chest of drawers has a spare blanket and extra space for clothes.
Fancy French Doors open to a fully screened porch, essentially adding to the Great Room during the summer, and warmer days in the spring and fall. Ring-The-Bull is a great game to sit and relax with while you watch the wildlife pass by and listen to ‘the game’ on TV. There’s a table and chairs for 4 on the porch for eatin’ with no bugs or birds to pester ya. Sit down on the comfy chairs and turn the lamp on for an evening of reading. Or leave the lamp off and just listen to the critters.
The mudroom has a full size washer and dryer built right in. So this’ll save you some room in your luggage too. This is where you’ll find the dog-dishes and the mut-mits. Hang your leash on the coat rack so it is always available.
My Great-Niece Caryl is really into the outdoors. She spends a lot of time taking care of the plants around my place. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s doin’ everythin’ she can to keep this little patch of soil as native as possible. She has even put in a fire pit with chairs so y'all can roast your marshmallows and make s'mores. (I love those things).
I love walkin’ around Glen Arbor, so I was sure to build this place just a block from all of the attractions of downtown.
Now, when you call the number to ask questions and make a reservation, be sure to ask for DANA. She knows this place inside and out! She’ll take good care of you.
Hope to see you in our Guest Comments book!
Sincerely,
Uncle Warren

Why the Owner Chose Glen Arbor
Our Great Uncle Warren purchased land in Glen Arbor in the mid 1940's. He built the 'Little Red Cabin' around the corner on Lake Street, and that's where we would stay as kids. We chose to build this Chalet in 2005 as an upgrade from the 'Little Red Cabin' with the expressed purpose of sharing it with others so they can come to love Leelanau County as much as we do. Nowhere else have I even been where, when you fill the hot tub with water, it is BLUE!
The Unique Benefits at this House
You will experience the comfort and seclusion of a wooded lot and all of the convenience that Glen Arbor has to offer within a couple-blocks walk. Leelanau County provides a wide variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, boating, wine tasting, color tours, biking, running, fishing, swimming and camp-firing. I could go on, but VRBO may not have enough room for everything.

We had rented another house for the weekend and at 3:00 in the morning on Friday, a huge tree came down. The tree took the power lines with it and blocked the driveway No power or water but than goodness it missed our car. Barely got out but then we found you. Thanks for saving our vacation weekend! We loveeeed the house. Absolutely perfect.

Came back to Glen Arbor 15-years after our first visit as newlyweds ... this time with 2-daughters & our handsome (and very popular in town) Standard Poodle. GA is as lovely as we remember and the house was perfect for our family! We love the fire pit at night and dinners in town that we enjoyed were Art's and Boondocks. The river was a great morning adventure, of course the Dune Climb and hike and beaches at Glen Haven and Empire. We will surely be back again -- Than kyou for opening your wonderful home for travelers from Illinois.

Thank you for such a wonderful, clean, spacious and relaxing getaway! Spent 4-nights in Glen Arbor, first time here and we loved it. The weather was perfect and our 2-1/2 year old loves having the freedom to play out in the sun room, taking baths every night in the fabulous jacuzzi tub and going to TC to the Great Wolf Lodge. We are a family that works opposite shifts so to be able to com to this retreat and unwind and reconnect as a family was a real treat. Our dog, who's normally a little hyper (Jack Russell) was at ease and happy the whole time too! Hope to be back.

We enjoyed our stay at your perfectly-appointed home very much. Skied at Crystal Mountain two days (one in the fog, the other in the blistering cold). Walked to town for dinner each night (Boondocks for the music and the Art's Tavern). But the highlight was playing a spirited game of Risk around the dining room table together. Our 8-year old son beat us by stockpiling in an outpost. We played the game for three nights - what fun! Thank you for providing your cozy retreat to us.

I came to attend the winter feast at Leelanau School on Thursday. My son is attending there this year and i decided to spend 2-nights rather than rush home. I also brought our dog. Your home was perfect for us. It is only a mile to the school and such an easy walk to town. My son stayed here last night, we watched a movie and I cooked for us - a great reunion. The fireplace is awesome on a winter's night. Thanks for making your home available - we will rent again.

What a delightful retreat! Very impressed upon arrival - clean, cozy - delightful home. Loved watching the black squirrels, walked into town. Shared lunch @ Art's Tavern - famous for their burgers - super fries - large beer. Nice evening by the fireplace - talked and drank wine ... 13th Glomy, rainy AM - out for a run to beach - bought coffee in town, breakfast waiting upon return. Off we go - check out Sutton's Bay & Fishtown - not too bad outside. Stopped for wine tasting - too dry. Bought gifts @ Cherry Republic. 14th Good breakfast, was enjoyed by all - off to Mass - Dunes & last minute items. After lunch paced up and headed home. Thank you so much.
