Beautiful Authentic Adobe Casita-Walk to the Plaza
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Description: Casita del Sol is the epitome of the charming, authentic (original adobe) casita which everyone looks for when visiting Santa Fe. It is located within a 10-15 minute (.7 mile) walk of the center of old Santa Fe’s picturesque plaza.
In the summer enjoy our private walled garden (shared with our other casita, Casita de la Luna, VRBO #17902) with comfortable outdoor seating. In the winter, cozy up by your own kiva fireplace (wood provided in winter months). The property is very private and quiet and features authentic hand-painted Mexican tile and coved ceilings with original vigas. Upon your arrival, you will find all the ingredients for a continental breakfast!
Amenities: Deep porches with comfortable benches. Private walled garden with comfortable seating. Casita del Sol has its own flagstone patio with bistro table and two chairs (not shared with other casita). Furnished with hand-carved Southwestern style furniture. Kiva fireplace and complimentary firewood (in winter months). Flat screen HDTV with satellite service and HBO, VCR, DVD, stereo CD player, DSL. The casita features fully equipped kitchen with stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, as well as all utensils, dishes, etc.
The bedroom features fine linens for a wonderful night’s sleep. There is a full sleeper sofa in the living room. The sunny atmosphere is the result of skylights throughout and the casita is tastefully decorated with attractive artwork and hand-woven rugs. There is off-street parking available. Laundry facilities, iron and ironing board.
The casita is maintained with care and pride and we have lots of return guests!
Casita del Sol is approximately 650 square feet and features:
· Brick floors with radiant heating (very cozy)
· Inviting queen size bed in the bedroom with beautiful hand-carved headboard
· Full sleeper sofa in the living room
Area:
Casita del Sol is located in the historic Guadalupe district, at 102 Pena Place. It is a short walk to the Santuario de Guadalupe, the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Palace of the Governors, etc. Restaurants within easy walking distance include the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the well known Coyote Café, the renowned Pink Adobe, as well as many others. There are many shops and galleries filled with lots of interesting and attractive merchandise.
A/C: The property does not have air conditioning and it is not necessary. This is the original adobe construction which has been used in New Mexico for centuries. The adobe walls keep the casitas cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The only kind of air conditioning that I could put in these historic buildings would be window units and I refuse to do that as they can be quite noisy and unsightly. We do have fans, as well as small portable evaporative coolers available for the summer months if people want to use them. In addition, in Santa Fe, the nights are about 30 degrees cooler than the days, so we do not have warm summer nights. We have guests who return every summer and know that the casitas are very comfortable. I remember a couple from Southern California who stayed with us a few years ago. They were concerned that there was no air conditioning, but they decided to stay anyway. They later told me that they were totally comfortable and were very pleased to have stayed in our property.

Over the years, I have stayed in a number of places in Santa Fe - some of them very expensive and all very nice. However, Casita del Sol became my favorite the minute I walked in. It balances charm with functionality and comfort. There is great attention to detail in terms of the amenities that are provided, the space is well laid out and the architecture and decor are classic and welcoming. The location is good - close to everything but quiet. The owners are great to deal with - organized, friendly and responsive. I would stay here again in a NY minute (well actually, I guess that should be a NM minute). Highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Sherry, Wow! This is high praise indeed. Thank you so much for your kind comments and for taking the time to add them to our HomeAway listing. I know this will help others in the future who are looking for an accommodation. Hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards, Roxanne

My wife and I spent 5 days in this lovely casita, and it was perfect -- clean, light, well-appointed and comfortable. Roxanne went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The location is perfect - nothing is more than a short (less than a mile) walk to historic downtown, interesting galleries, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, and a wide range of restaurants. Whole Foods market is a 5-minute drive, and it was easy to find roads out of town to extraordinary hikes in Bandolier, Ghost Ranch, and more. You won't regret your decision to stay at 102 Pena Place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear Larry and Bernice, I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your thoughtful and comprehensive comments. We would be pleased to see you again. Regards, Roxanne

We used to live here years ago and came back to share Santa Fe with our teenage son before he goes off to college in the fall. What a lovely casita. Thank you so much! On Christmas Eve, we walked to Canyon Road and later walked to midnight mass while it was snowing a beautiful, gentle, Christmas snow. Santa Fe is still a magical place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were here awaiting the birth of our first grandchild. She was born on September 8, 2012. Her name is Rowan. She's a doll. We stayed until October 4, 2012, to help out our daughter with the baby. This is a wonderful place to stay. My husband and I walked all over the area. It's a short walk to the Guadalupe district and the Plaza. The weather was very nice - exceptional. I would recommend this place to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Pena Place is such a perfect place to stay! We walked everywhere (Railyard/Farmer's Market; Plaza/Indian Market; Canyon Road) and enjoyed perfect weather! Ojo Caliente twice, golf, fantastic meals (check out El Meson for amazing paella) opera and art - plus lots of time for reading. Already looking forward to our next visit.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A comfortable place in an excellent location! We enjoyed our stay in the casita and in Santa Fe for the past month. The museums were fascinating and the opera was terrific. We especially liked the Museum of International Folk Art and the International Folk Art Fair. Thanks for sharing the casita and your city with us.Did you find this review helpful? NC Ottawa, Canada No regrets 5 of 5 Submitted: February 23, 2013 Stayed: February 2013 Imagine staying at your foodie friend's pied à terre in Santa Fe. This is how it felt for me during my almost two week stay at the Casita de la Luna. I felt immediately at home in this quiet, peaceful and very clean casita with its well equiped kitchen. To make matters even better, the casita is well located between the downtown core and the railyard, in the Guadalupe district. My visit to Santa Fe did not involve a car and this was not a problem as I could easily walk to most places of interest. In fact, walking in Santa Fe is the perfect way to admire the landscape, the skyscape, and the lovely adobe homes and buildings. This was my first experience renting a home; normally, I stay at a hotel when I travel. I am delighted that I chose the Casita de la Luna. It certainly increased my appreciation of beautiful Santa Fe. I am convinced that I made the perfect choice by staying at the Casita de la Luna. Sincere thanks to Roxanne and her husband for a great stay at the casita and a fantastic visit to Santa Fe. Recommended for: Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway Owner's Response: Dear Nichole, I really appreciate you taking the time to enter your comments. I'm not sure why your comments were entered under this property. Actually, you stayed in Casita del Sol, which is our VRBO #268310. Both casitas are located at the same physical address and so most of the amenities are the same. I will go ahead and enter your review under Casita del Sol as well. Anyway, I'm very glad you that enjoyed your stay. RoxanneDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I stayed in Casita del Sol for a month while in Santa Fe. We sold our house a few months back and have been staying across the country in month long rentals. Hands down this was the best of our rentals. Casita del Sol is comfortable, super clean, and well appointed. The owners really have thought of everything and were very attentive when we needed anything. We also stayed in one of their other properties (Casita de la Luna) for a few nights and it was equally pleasant. If you have a choice, do not hesitate to stay here.Owner response: Dear Mr. &Mrs. K, Thank you very much for your kind comments and I am very glad you found the casita to be comfortable. Hope you enjoy the rest of your road trip. Roxanne

A very nice property. We were in unit #2. We hit a big heat wave in June so it was a little hot without air conditioning. AC is seldom needed in Santa Fe, so just our luck. We walked from the casita to downtown and to the Railyard market. Lots of restaurants and galleries to choose from. The Safeway is just a few minutes north. Good property location and very quiet.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear Mr. and Mrs. L, I am very sorry that your week in Santa Fe was so hot. It happens every once in a while. And I am sorry that you did not feel the swamp cooler was adequate. Our family vacation in Italy was also very hot. At least in Santa Fe the temp drops 25-30 degrees at night, making sleeping more comfortable. Thank you for staying with us and I hope that you have a very cool rest of the summer. Roxanne

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: My husband and I bought this property more than eleven years ago. I love owning the property and knowing the people who come back year after year. We have lived in Santa Fe for over twelve years and live a little bit outside of the city limits. We have a 15-year-old son, two collies and a cat.
Why the Owner Chose Guadalupe:
When I first saw it, I knew it was the one because of the privacy, quiet and peacefulness. Short walk (10-15 minutes) to the plaza, but less expensive than staying on the East side. A few blocks from the new Railyard.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
I always put in the makings for a breakfast (cereal, milk, juice, bread, jam, fruit, butter) so people won't have to arrive in the afternoon and then immediately go find a grocery store.
