Located in a private setting amongst native hardwoods and pines, the treehouse is a round, two-story, very private retreat in the woods. Is it a real treehouse? Does it sway? To answer these questions first, it is a house which was built with a tree through the center to which supporting beams were attached. Years ago, there were trees growing through the porch. Built 25 or so years ago by master craftsmen of lumber that was milled on site, this is truly a unique place. Filled with wooden cabinets and stained glass, this house is a jewel situated deep in the woods. There are no close neighbors. This is an ideal place for a private, restful vacation, honeymoon, or romantic getaway. There are two buildings on the property; the treehouse and the outbuilding (seen from the porch photo). The outbuilding is used for storage (is NOT a residence) and there is a neat little porch with a swing, just right for visiting couples.

If you like porches, the treehouse has the grandest of all. Because the house is round, a circular screened-in porch surrounds the circumference of the treehouse. The porch serves as an extended living room and there are dining tables constructed atop the old tree trunks so you can eat outside. The second story features a small deck, just outside the master bedroom. Sit on the deck, pluck a guitar, and enjoy the beautiful serenity of the woods from above.

The first floor of the treehouse consists of the screened porch, kitchen, dining area, living room, sleeping area, and full bath with a clawfoot tub and separate shower. The second story is the master bedroom suite, guest bedroom, hall, half bath, and deck. The master bedroom has sixteen tall narrow windows. The view of the boughs of the trees is spectacular. The floors are wide pine planks, and all of the cabinets contain leaded and stained glass embellishments. The kitchen has ample storage space. There are plenty of dishes, cookware, glasses, party glasses, etc. There is a butcher block with drawers and a beautiful island (with stove top) constructed of cedar and black walnut. Just for fun, there are twelve five-inch deck prisms in the 2nd story floor, which help illuminate the kitchen below. They are beautiful jewels downstairs in the daytime, and glowing upstairs at nighttime.

Located at the end of a sandy trail, here you can take the time to enjoy nature - birds, owls, frogs and crickets, deer, and perhaps an occasional bobcat. Camden, the closest town, is about ten minutes away. Here you will find an Arts Center, restored Revolutionary War battleground and historic buildings, locally owned restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and antique stores galore. Lake Wateree is about 25 minutes away. There are golf courses, canoe trails, and other interesting sites in the area. The local state park (located about five miles from the house) offers daily canoe and kayak rentals for a very reasonable rate.

Regarding reservations, we are sorry, but we cannot 'hold' a reservation by giving you 'first refusal.' We receive many inquiries, and it's simply too confusing and we do not want anyone to be disappointed. A deposit is required to reserve the property. We do not have 'set' check-in and check-out times. If there are no renters before and after you, you can check in and out whenever you'd like to.

If you want to get away from it all, do some painting, write some poetry, catch up on reading, or simply enjoy quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings, the treehouse is a wonderful place to do all of that.

If you want to escape from the brutal winter weather, are longing to go to the tropics, but can't make it that far, consider South Carolina for very nice alternative. If you visit during the Christmas season, you will find the house decorated with a live Christmas tree and fresh greens. For parents and friends visiting students at Coker College, Hartsville is only twenty minutes away.

If, on the other hand, you simply MUST go to the tropics, please look at our other property located in Eleuthera, Bahamas - Seaglass Cottage (Listing number 15017).

To ensure we receive your request for a reservation or information about the house, please telephone us if you do not receive a prompt answer to your email!

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

My husband and I enjoy restoration projects. The treehouse looked like a place that would keep us busy for a number of years. Having restored several other houses, we weren't intimidated by the condition of the treehouse, even though it needed a lot of work. We spent many productive weekends working from sunup 'til sundown; then enjoying the wonderful screened in porch in the evenings. There are so many interesting sounds in the forest, and they change as the seasons do. The treehouse is a peaceful and enjoyable place to visit!

Why the Owner Chose Camden

South Carolina is divided into several regions. The treehouse is located in the sandhills part of the state. Although it's an hour's drive from the ocean, you can find seashells and shark's teeth along the sandy roads and trails. The pine forests are lovely and the hardwoods are magnificent. We like this part of the state because it has rolling hills - unlike the coastal plain where our home is. Camden, the closest town is famous for its horse races and other equestrian events. It is filled with charming antique shops, historic places to visit, and restaurants.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

When we visit the treehouse, we don't want to leave the house to go anywhere! The woods are beautiful so we spend a lot of time on the upper deck (off the master bedroom) watching birds and squirrels. The house has a great floor plan (round houses are very efficient!) so it's easy and enjoyable to prepare meals and then dine on one of the three tables we built on the screened in porch. The house is comfortable and furnished with everything you need for a cozy weekend in the woods. On moonless nights, the stars are fantastic!
