My Sister and I recently visited Whale Watch! It was soooo difficult to leave! Beautiful location, with the sea right in the front yard. Huge deck, with comfortable chairs. I spent many hours on that deck with my camera. We did venture out some to Mendocino and Fort Bragg, took a walk at the Botanical Gardens (gorgeous), but we were so comfortable and happy at Whale Watch, we hated leaving. The house is nicely laid out so there is plenty of privacy, yet great rooms for gathering. The kitchen is nicely stocked and easy to cook in. The beds have nice linens and bedspreads and are really comfortable. We both slept great with the sound of the ocean singing us to sleep. I can't wait to visit there again! Oh, and our little dog loved it too!

I've been coming out to Mendocino/Fort Bragg area for a few years now. In my opinion this house is AS GOOD AS IT GETS when it comes to vacationing there. The house: the layout is great. lots of room to hang out in the living room area, plenty of beds for people to sleep comfortably, open floor plan in the kitchen/living room/dining areas, huge windows facing the ocean, generously-stocked consumables and cleaning supplies, and an enormous deck and hot tub for lounging around. I could go on and on. The attention to detail by the owners is great...there was need for nothing while at the house. Also, those who need internet will be happy hear as the wireless worked well. The property: beautiful. Close to the bluff so the views are completely unobstructed. Truly breath-taking...I could have sat out and looked west all day. Big trees in front and along side of the house, located in a great community far enough off the highway where you don't hear any road noise (only ocean!), and nicely located close enough to the main downtown area of Mendocino to be convenient but far enough to feel like you are away from it all. Also check out the Point Cabrillo lighthouse...just a couple minutes of a drive to get there from Whale Watch. All in all this was a great trip and nobody in my party was ready to leave. I will certainly try to come here again. Thanks to the owners for putting together such a nice vacation rental!

My husband, his mother and myself visited Whale Watch the first week of June. There was plenty of room for everyone. We were looking for a little down time and the sound of the ocean. We got both and so much more. The location is great...about a mile from Mendo Village or just seven from Fort Bragg for a leisurely lunch or some shopping. We watched birds, wild turkeys and deer as well as the seals in the surf. Very relaxing. Thank you for sharing your home. :)

Our family really enjoyed the stay at this property. It is a perfect location for whale watching, with fantastic views from the living room and the deck. We will return, and see this as a special place to visit, regardless of time of year.

We loved staying at Whale Watch! It was a great weekend for my husband, myself, and son and daughter in law. We actually got to see whales on our first day! We have rented a lot of homes in lots of places, but this one ranks way up there. It was beautiful while at the same time very comfortable. We will be coming back for sure.

Our family has been enjoying "get aways" to Whale Watch for the past 6 years. It is our favorite place. The house is immaculate and every need for the occupant has been anticipated. It is clean and very well maintained inside and out. The property is peaceful and the surroundings are breathtaking. There is just nothing like sitting out in that jacuzzi and looking out over the wild and dramatic Mendocino coastline. The owners are a pleasure to work with. Our favorite thing to do in Mendocino is to go downtown and look at shops and art galleries. We enjoy a lunch at the wharf in Ft. Bragg and often buy fresh crab there to bring home for dinner. It's fun to drive to Boonsville and see the wineries. Our daughter likes to Kayak on the nearby beaches. When we come in winter we bring down comforters and wrap up in them so we can sit outside the house and watch the seals below on the rocks. In summer we drive up the coast to see the Tide Pools. There is no end to the sight seeing and great dining in this area.

The minute you walk into the Whale Watch, you feel a certain sense of hominess. I truly believe houses reflect the aura, presence and love of the owners and that is what we felt here. The kitchen is beautifully appointed, and the panoramic ocean view from the living room is breathtaking - what a way to relax. We go to Mendocino often and have stayed at various properties. Whale Watch is by far our favorite. We are so happy to have discovered it. The pictures on the listing are fairly accurate but you really have to experience it to feel how wonderful this property is. We have already recommended it to family and friends. The owners were extremely accessible and answered all our questions before we got there.

A perfect spot with a fantastic view, comfortable hot tub, and very nice owners. We've been coming to Mendocino for very many years and love nothing more than just remaining most of the time at this house enjoying the view. A most welcome retreat from our hectic lives!

What a wonderful peaceful Christmas we had. The house is everything described and a lot more. The house has everything you need for a great stay. House is roomy clean and comfortable. What an amazing view with some whale and seal sightings. We would have loved to do some hiking at the nearby park or go visit the lighthouse, but we were so relaxed and comfortable at the house no one wanted to leave. Maybe next time. We definitely want to go back. I can not say enough about this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone. The owners are very easy to deal with. Very helpful and friendly.

My husband and I invited our siblings to join us on the Mendocino coast for 10 days in February, and although we have often visited the Mendocino coast, this was our first stay at Whale Watch. How pleased we were with the porperty! It is perfectly named as we saw many whales each day from the living room or from the deck. The house is accurately described on the listing, and we found everything to be very clean. The owners mentioned that they are currently in the process of doing some updating and maintenance on the property, but we were happy with it as it was. The kitchen is well-supplied, and we enjoyed many of our meals right there in the house. There were many movies and books for our use while there, and the fireplace was ready for us to light it when we arrived. We enjoyed all the surrounding area has to offer. Some of us visited the lighthouse, others hiked to the Pygmy Forest. We did some shopping, and enjoyed the food offered in both Mendocino and Fort Bragg. We especially enjoyed the fish and chips at the North Coast Brewery. Mendo Bistro in Fort Bragg is also one of our favorites. I have already recommended this rental to friends, and we hope to enjoy it again, ourselves!

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1990

About the owner: We are mostly retired now. Harvey is a rancher -- and ranchers never completely retire. Jackie is a retired school teacher. We are finally getting to the place where we have more time to enjoy the coast and all it has to offer. Our children and grandchildren (Idaho and Arizona folks) love to get their 'ocean fix' over here at Whale Watch House. A special treat for them is to ride the Skunk Train and to hunt for treasures on the many beaches. But, for us, just being here is very special.

                      Why the Owner Chose Mendocino:
We are used to country living; that is, lots of privacy. When we first saw Whale Watch House nestled in among the many mature trees, we knew we had found our quiet, coastal retreat with all the privacy we enjoy. Every time we walk up those steps to the deck, come around the corner to the front door, and see that ocean out in front of us . . . . well, we know all over again that we made the right decision to make Whale Watch House our coastal home-away-from-home.
