THE VIEWS DO NOT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS! The pictures give you some idea of the magnitude of the view down the coast, but to a tee, guests say it doesn't match seeing it in person.
When you walk in the front door, my best description is that it's like looking out of a cruise ship that' docked on a private cove. With Russian Gulch State Park as our neighbor, you have a unobstructed view all the way down the coast to the Mendocino Headlands! Stormy days are majestic as you sit and watch the coastline explode as far as the eye can see. Sit outside on our large deck overlooking ocean and hear nothing but the waves while watching the migration of the gray whales, or relax in the hot tub with the same commanding views. We added a downstairs patio complete with a fire pit. Yet you are only 5 minutes from downtown Mendocino, full of great shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Russian Gulch State park is less than 1/2 mile from the house where you can hang out at their beach, Kayak the coves, or hike the trails to waterfalls. Take a stroll to the Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse or a little further brings you to Caspar Beach where you can surf, kayak or simply lay back on the large sandy beach.
Back at our home, we have all the amenities you will need, from a full kitchen, cable TV, stereo, VCR, DVD, to a game room complete with a pool table, antique slot machines and exercise equipment.
Build a fire, turn on our funky fish lights (By artist Doug Rathbun), pour a libation and enjoy. Stroll downstairs to the game room and enjoy a game of pool, or walk outside to the hot tub that is situated with the same commanding views and look at the stars overhead. This place is truly special, no doubt about it. From its unassuming exterior to the warm amenities inside, we guarantee the place will take your breath away.
Welcome to Pelican Point.
You will love it, ...I guarantee it!
My wife and I were married in Mendocino in 1981. We have always enjoyed the area and when we sold my mother-in-laws house in Hawaii we (I) embarked on finding an ocean front house there as a investment-rental for her.
Don Walker purchased this house in 2011
I've participated in the Mendocino Abalone Cook Off several times and have taken the grand prize a few times. Always loving the area, I was looking for oceanfront property as an investment/income for my mother-in-law. After several tries (every time I made it over, the property I was coming over to look at would be in escrow) I got a call from my realtor about another oceanfront property. I made it halfway to Mendocino when I got the call that it went into escrow. Being halfway there I decided to come over anyway and look at other properties. The first one was what I now call Pelican Point. I really did not want to look at it because it was WAY out of our budget.
It was a beautiful sunny day. I looked at the house as we drove up and to be honest, I thought it looked kinda barn like, but my first steps into the home took my breath away. The fire was going and all I could see was coastline and ocean. It was (is) truly breathtaking! I had to have it!
It was a long journey to get the house. Suffice it to say, everything fell in line and this unbelievable house is ours, and we love to share it with others! It’s November 25, 2013 as I write this, and I’m even more excited about the place than when we first got it. It’s a great place to hang with family and or friends. We invite you to come share the experience. You will not be disappointed
THE VIEWS ARE MAJESTIC. THE LOCATION IS INCREDIBLE. IT'S LIKE HAVING YOUR OWN ISLAND NEXT TO DOWNTOWN MENDOCINO.
NO BRAG, JUST FACT
We had a great time staying in this lovely home. We enjoyed the decks, the hot tub, the beautiful views, and the proximity to Mendocino and Russian Gulch State Park. The beds were all comfortable and we liked hanging out, cooking, and playing games. There was lots of interesting art/collections!
Being able to stay at the house my father, Ross Lawler, built in 1961 was the best trip down memory lane I've ever had! The house still has some of the sixties details that are so much fun, such as the tile in the bathrooms and the built-in cabinets in the kitchen. Fantastic upgrade to the basement into a bedroom and separate pool room "man cave." The porch was widened to make a wonderful place to hang out with family and friends, along with the patio/hot tub area below the house. Floors beautifully polished. The addition to the house I enjoyed most was the two windows in the corner of the living room.
The property was super clean and had everything you could want in the kitchen for cooking for a crowd. All I can say is that I wish it were still ours. If you don't stay here, you are missing a wonderful experience. Plus, the owners, Don and Jean, were fantastic to work with; helpful and quick to respond to any questions.
One of the best things also, is the view, the view, the view! The grandkids loved nearby Caspar Beach and Glass Beach in Ft. Bragg. Be sure to get the fried pickles at the Sea Valley Cafe in Ft. Bragg!
Thank you, Don and Jean, for a really special trip. It meant a lot to me.
Such a unique special vacation house & the views are awesome! So many fascinating things to see, would take too long to name everything but fun stuff to look at. We just spent the Thanksgiving Holiday week there & loved every minute of our stay. We had a pool tournament one night with the whole family with music going, fun time! The kitchen is equipped with everything you would need & made fixing Thanksgiving dinner easy. Close drive to Mendocino & only 10 min. to Ft. Bragg & right next to Russian Gulch State Park with a lot of hiking trails. For a relaxing time this is the place! Enjoy!
All the great reviews and the great descriptions on the HomeAway site do not fully describe how totally great Pelican Point is.
The house was perfect for the 12 of us - 8 adults, 3 kids and 1 - 15 yr. old dog, the 4 bedrooms provided privacy. The kitchen is well appointed and the common areas are great for fun and relaxation. The quirky and eclectic artifacts and art added interest to our stay. As great as the facility is it is overwhelmed by the view. Inside and out - just a total WOW!
It was a stormy weekend. This served to enhance our viewing experience. The waves crashing ashore on the cove - amazing. Then it e would clear -the sun shining through, the ocean sparkling - even more spectacular.
Don is a great host. accessible and eager to help improve our stay - not that much could be added.
A wonderful time was had by all and we hope to return for a repeat performance.
Incredible views. Really interesting house with a wonderful collection of antiques, music and many other interesting pieces.
We had evenings of watching the sun set. Sitting in the hot tub and sing alongs with guitar playing.
I had six of my best buddies from Britain over celebrating my daughters wedding and some big numbered birthdays! They all adored the house.
Wow, everything here is beautiful! Everything was amazing, no problems at all. This was perfect for gathering family for our son's wedding! From so much peace sitting out on the deck, watching the waves of the ocean, the deer and wildlife to the incredible decor and wonderful stories found inside, this is a treasure to be appreciated. An amazing 1st VRBO experience. Would love to visit again.
