Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the Mendocino beach house was excellent. The house was really comfortable and full of interesting artwork . The yard and views were beautiful. The walk to the beach was quick and you could see the ever changing beach from the house. The garden art was unique and it was so fun just to explore around the house and yard. The home was close to everything we needed and our dog charlie especially enjoyed the trip! Cheers to the beach house!

This might sound like I am complaining but I am not -- just think it is helpful for people to know what to expect...I would have enjoyed my time even more had I known: The place is cluttered and in need of a good cleaning (spider webs in the windows); dirty windows; the linens are slightly better than Motel 6...slightly... and the kitchen layout will drive any even part-time cook insane. Almost zero counter space, no toaster, no coffee. No bathroom amenities, the shower had old bar soaps from others in there. But the location is fantastic...private path to the beach...can't beat that. Finally, I was there when it was really cold outside (freezing at night) and the energy efficient Nest (which I appreciate) was awful in that you had to get up during the night to turn it back on so you didn't freeze your butt off. Other than that, bright, sunny windows (probably a delight in the summer), wonderful view and did I mention the private path to the beach?

Awesome vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This house is awesome, with the best location in Mendocino. It has a large deck & yard with private access to the beach and Big River, and its own firepit. It's just a couple of minutes walk into the main part of town. The house is over 100 years old, but is maintained beautifully and has everything you need for a great vacation. Mendocino is a gorgeous little town with incredible ocean views and tons to do right near by, including kayaking, hiking & horseback riding.

  • 4 of 5

This home had everything we needed and more. Easy walk into town and the headlands. Cool steps down to the beach. Plenty of room, spacious living room with fire place to take the chill off. Comfortable beds. And everything we needed to cook dinners at home. The owner is communicative and flexible.

Inspiring Ocean-Front Retreat with Relaxing Down-To-Earth Charm

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a month at the Mendo Beach House and it was one of the best and most inspiring months of our life. We are planning on coming back next year to rest, renew, and retreat at this fantastic haven in one of our favorite parts of the world. The location is stellar, with views of the ocean from every room, a giant backyard filled with whimsical art, antiques, toys, and sculptures, colorful flowers, a variety of birds (including a beautiful blue heron who visited several times), the private path down to the beach, and other delightful surprises. We loved being a few blocks away from the main part of Mendocino village with it's galleries, grocery, pub, and restaurants and we barely used the car we rented at all because everything was so close. We also discovered a beautiful path a block away from the house that led to the Headlands with it's amazing ocean views. We cooked most of the days we were there and the kitchen had everything we needed with the Harvest grocery a few blocks away. Days were spent relaxing, eating, reading, taking longs walks, listening to music. Most nights we lit a fire in the wood-burning stove, turned out the lights, and kicked back. The ever-present sound of the surf calmed our minds. The house has a down-to-earth casual charm, good vibe, and history that helps you feel at right at home. It feels like you're house-sitting at your favorite uncle's home. There's even a great collection of classic vinyl records to relish. One of our dreams is to spend a month every year at the Mendo Beach House.
