We stayed at Aloha Falls during Merrie Monarch 2013 week/weekend, and we were surrounded by aloha during our entire stay! The hale is beautiful and spacious! The surrounding gardens and waterfall/pond are simply enchanting. We were at peace! The purest sense of ALOHA "rises" here -- a true blessing!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: MAHALO!! What an incredible honor to have you and your halau at Aloha Falls. The Merrie Monarch festival was just stunning! I look forward to having you all next year. Blessings, Sierra

We stayed at Aloha falls for couple of days and wished we had more time. The waterfalls and the mini rain forest climb down to get there was adventurous, the access to the falls is rugged but once you get there, its amazing. The sounds of the forest and the waterfall was enchanting and the massage by Sierra made it rejuvenating. We would love to go back again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Mahalo Dakshina! I look forward to having you and your gorgeous family here again. ~Aloha~

Words fail to describe the beauty of this place. The accommodations were perfect. Choose to sleep in either two comfortable bedrooms or listen to the peepers and waterfalls on the surprisingly comfortable futon in the screened-in room. We explored the serene natural pool and multiple waterfalls in a completely private setting. Each morning we could help ourselves to abundant passionfruit, papaya and bananas. Sierra is a gracious host. I can't imagine a better location and accommodations for a vacation in hawaii, either as a couple or with the entire family!Owner response: It is always a gift to share my home with people who genuinely love and appreciate it. I couldn't ask for anything more! Future renters are more than welcome to eat from the wild gardens and explore the waterfalls.

Nice place, somewhat reminiscent of a home that you fix up for yourself. Equipped with the basics, but no AC. The top unit is definitely brighter and more airy than the bottom unit. The unit was clean, well maintained and comfortable. The driveway down to the house is San Francisco type steep, if you decide to take the car down to load/unload, etc. it may be easier to back down. Floors are tile, OK if you are fine going barefoot, otherwise bring some indoor slippers. The screened patio is pretty good and the hammock chairs were quite comfortable, but not usable when it start getting dark as the mosquitoes get in from near the top of the roof which is pretty open; if the sliding glass doors are open, they get into the house as well :-(. Keep your bug spray on hand; without that problem there is a futon on the patio that could be used outdoorsy sleeping experience. Most shopping is within driving distance; turned out Target was the most useful for "standard" grocery items; Walmart for other basics and souvenirs; the Safeway is in some crazy high price zone with some things twice the price as Target. For fresh fruits and vegetables the farmers market is the best choice and price with friendly people. The area around the house is all pretty much residential and quiet; no worries about traffic. The frogs are really loud in the evenings. The water heater is solar powered, so go first if you want a really hot shower :-). House does have Wi-Fi for internet access to keep in touch. The picture of the waterfall is pretty, but unless you bring ropes and harness there is no safe way to get down there. If you do get there, the water is really non-Hawaii cold; even the neighbors on the side who seem to have access did not stay long the couple of times we saw them there. Food trucks, local and chain restaurants are plentiful in the area with a good range of prices. The upper unit has two bedrooms and unless someone is OK to sleep on the couch (not a sofa bed), the unit sleeps 4 people. Nice place, we can recommend it for a smaller family and likely will consider it if we make another trip to Hilo.Owner response: Thank you for this detailed response. For future visitors: We have recently constructed stairs down the valley, which leads to the waterfall! So, you can disregard the comment about needing ropes and harness to repel down the cliff- it is totally accessible! Also, many guests love to sleep out on the futon, which is on the lanai and I have not heard them complain about mosquitoes out there. I think they are minimal. Yes, please take heed on the driveway situation. It is quite steep and backing down is the best approach. Most houses on the East side of the island do not have a/c because, we have year-round trade winds. The house does have ceiling fans in every room, which keep the temperature quite comfortable. I recommend the local health food stores or local grocery stores for the best prices (and selection) and to stay away from your typical "mainland" chain stores, as they tend to be the most expensive. Local grocery stores are: Abundant Life; Island Naturals; Sack N Save; KTA ~ all are 1-3 miles in distance from the house.

Me and my husband honeymooned at this home with a few close friends. The home was truly beautiful and fully equipped for all of your needs. There were wonderful books and great local coffee. Sierra was nice enough to give a couples yoga session and I personally had a massage on the lanai. The home was magical with the sound of the waterfall and the rainforests beauty. I will never forget hilo and plan to visit Aloha falls again. We had a wonderful stay visiting green sand and black sand beaches and just falling asleep in the hammocks. Climbing the water fall was truly breathtaking. I will never for aloha falls or the courteous accommodations. I look forward to visiting again and will never forget my adventures such as night diving with the manta rays and photographing the wildlife!!! Thank you for such a great start to my new family and to the next chapter in my life! Mahalo!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Have been to Hawaii 6 times, and Big Island 3 times staying in condos and b&bs.; By far this was the nicest place yet! The waterfall grotto is literally your view from the screened in porch. Love the hammocks! Gorgeous, serene, and relaxing! Hard to describe really. At least as beautiful if not more than the pics. A nice change of pace from the traffic of Kona. Great location as well. Walking distance or very short drive to downtown. Easy 35 miles from volcano. 4 miles to Botanical Garden. On same road as Rainbow Falls. Thanks Sierra! We had a great time there and didn't want to leave!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

About the owner: Aloha! I am so honored and excited to share Aloha Falls with you. It is my dream of Hawaiian beauty and spirit. The past decade of my life has been spent nurturing the land here on the Big Island and pursuing the wisdom of various healing arts, including: massage, energy medicine, yoga, and plant medicine. My partner Troy and I focus much of our attention on creating the beauty of Aloha Falls.
Why the Owner Chose Hilo:
Hilo is the most gorgeous place in all of Hawaii! It is a sweet historic town with locally owned shops and modern comforts. The land is lush thanks to nightly rain fall. Waterfalls and black sand beaches are everywhere, along with an abundance of farms growing exotic organic produce! It was my dream to find a place in Hilo and Aloha Falls is located on the exclusive neighborhood called Reed's Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The view and sound of the waterfall made this home absolutely perfect. Also, the attention to detail in building.. All of the furniture, cabinetry, and artwork are handcrafted and locally produced. There are feelings of simplicity, peace, and profound elegance here.
